The Most Beautiful Stat Line Ever
Mike Trout. 3 hits today, a homer, double, plus a walk. He's hitting .372. Takes walks, showing good power. Did I mention he can run (20 steals already). And he's only 18. He's the most exciting prospect we've had since...well, you know who I'm talking about. And that player's struggles show why you can't expect too much out of any prospect.

I've been following him every game.
To me it seems he is gonna pan out, I know he is only 18 but all signs point to stardom. Also, Fabio Mesa Martinez and a huge line today:
7 IP, 4H, 2ER, 0BB, 12K!!!
He has 59 K’s over 37 IP! Two guys to keep both eyes on!
Sportin' Wood!!
I say put him Rancho ASAP
a heck of a lot more Angels fans that would go to see him there than in Iowa…….
I know I’d go to at least a couple more games than I normally would.
I agree move him up to Rancho soon. (this season).
Depending how he does there then let him start there next year then move him to Arkansas. We could see him get a look in the majors in the next 2 or 3 years. Also I think it is likely as our outfielders now are getting up in age and though we have a few other good Outfield prospects none better than this dude.

I would definitely make my first trek to Rancho Cucamonga to see him...
(my only quakes game was Jered Weaver’s debut in Smell-s’more (er, uh Elsinore))…
I love this team.

Well, actually I'm not sure of whom you are referring.
He’s the most exciting prospect we’ve had since…well, you know who I’m talking about.
Spill your guts. Who?
Dallas mcphereson?
WTY's ERA+ = 159 : - ) -- Kevin Frandsen > Brandon Wood??????

Funny, I was thinking Darin Erstad...
…until I realized you were referring to Wood.
I was always skeptical of Wood — even after his Cal League performance. I didn’t think that swing would translate to the Majors without amendment.

Wow if he keeps that stat line up....
I think he’ll be playing in Anaheim come this July!!!!!
Anyone want even money that he plays in a game at Angels Stadium this year? I’ll take the side that he does!
No way he does, what kind of bet we talkin'?

I'm not gonna hustle an Angels fan
now Dodgers fan I’d have no problem. The way I phrased that bet I’d actually put odds at around 70% that Trout WILL play in Anaheim this year.
Notice I didn’t say he’d be playing for the Angels……
Notice I didn’t say how long he would be playing…….
I'm thinking I'll be there too!
If Trout is on the roster….. if not I might sell it.
Ive never watched the futures, they have A ball guys there?
by Balls and Strikes on May 16, 2010 7:52 PM PDT up reply actions
yep!
they basically just take BA’s Top Prospects lists as of like middle of June if they did one and have those players duke it out.
Yeah I was just looking it up a bit more and thats pretty cool
Its seems surprisingly accurate at predicting who is going to do make it to the major leagues.
Noticed Brandon wood only made one appearance…. in 2005

Id make that bet in a heartbeat.

He will probably make it up to Rancho later this year.

So IDK how they really could get anything but Ill put money on the Angels trying to move Wood at the trade deadline.
Besides Wood I think we are def. going to be making a trade. Reagins I guess has already been talking to a lot of people.

No way, I dont think Wood is going to get out of anaheim that easy
He is going to succeed or fail in an angels uniform. My guess is when he gets through with this season, the angels will either not want to let him go or no other team (outside of AAA) will take him.

I actually could see them designating him for assignment when Sandoval comes off the DL. Sandoval is going to get a chance
however I guess they could send Ryan or Franderson down instead.

The Angels will most certainly promote Trout
The fact is, our OF is aging too fast and we don’t have enough minor league OF’s to fill the holes capably on a long term basis. I think they just want to make sure that this hot streak isn’t just a one month thing. Trout’s probably going to be promoted by July 4th 2010.
He’ll be promoted to AA by June, 2011. Will be in AAA for the 2012 season and make a September appearance. Will be in the opening day lineup in 2013.
Grichuk on the other hand, will repeat Cedar Rapids in 2011. Will be in Rancho 2012 where he will explode and figure it out. AA in 2013. Will be starting by the all-star break in 2014.

That would get Trout
Into the major league lineup at age 21. Pretty cool. I think there’s a chance he could force the issue, like Jason Heyward did in Atlanta, and dominate spring training so much that he makes the 2012 lineup.
His stat line last season and April 2010 looks like a leadoff hitter. Great OBP, lots of infield singles, 20 steals already. But lately he’s been hitting for power, hit his 5th homerun yesterday (an opposite field shot). He’s listed at 6’1 and 217 pounds, so it certainly looks like he’s strong enough to continue hitting for power. Cedar Rapids is a terrible place to hit for power anyway. I think McPherson only hit 15 when he was there, Brandon Wood I remember 12. Did I mention he hasn’t turned 19 yet?

Wouldn't that discipline,
good swing and budding power make him more suitable for the 2 or 3 hole in a lineup?
Alright Brandon, you're free..........and we're waiting.

.......And, how's his arm?
Is he truly destined to be a CF’er, or possibly a Corner Outfielder?
Wouldn’t it be something if Jake Locker, all of a sudden, decided it’s time to play baseball?
Imagine the up and comers: Trout, Grichuk, Bourjos, Locker.
Reminiscent of the days of Anderson, Salmon, Edmonds, Erstad……..too many outfielders.
If Locker has any brains
he will play football

Evidently, I'm not the only one who asks the question whether CF is his future.
I found this comment following the scouting report in the fanshot by G. Abbes:
But I’m not so sure he’s the CF of the future. The Angels have a very good young prospect in Peter Bourjos. His bat is still a work in progress but right now he’d easily be top 10 fastest players in baseball and would challenge Seattle’s Guttierez as one of the top defensive CF in baseball. I see Trout making the move to RF once he progresses through AAA, not because he can’t play CF, but because he fills the need.
We’ve coveted Bourjos’ defensive talent for a while now; it seems cavalier to precipitously assign his natural position to Trout without trying to maximize the talents of each. Besides, Bourjos is never going to have the power usually expected from a corner outfielder. Bourjos would likely either play CF, become a bench player, or not be on the team.
I'm not too concerned
About what position each one plays, I look forward to both being in our outfield in whatever alignment Scioscia thinks is best. Bourjos does indeed have the reputation, scouting reports, and minor league defensive stats to be a great defender there. Trout has great speed as well, being clocked in under 4 seconds from the right hand batter’s box to first base. Any time you can put a guy capable of playing center in a corner, you’ve got a great defensive asset.
Right field is probably best for him. It’s very fish friendly out there.

That's more like what I was thinking...........
But wouldn’t it be great if Locker chose baseball? Wow!
10th round pick in baseball
and PRedicted to go top 5 picks in next year’s NFL draft.

Well, once he takes a few hard shots from these mammoth pro players
and, has some bad outings early in his career, maybe that might convince him to turn to baseball, if it’s not too late.
