I knew it!
It’s not that wood can’t hit or field! It’s the hip flexor! Whew, what a relief!

Woody needs to go...
Nice guy wood is, but where are all those hits Scioscia predicted? Shouldn’t have let Figgins go…. Really miss him…. What do we do now?

That's a made up injury because they can't send Wood down unless he clears waivers.
I'm not as bad as all of you.
Bob Uecker has a routine along these lines
“Bob, we’ve got a rookie we want to bring up. Where do you want it—the knee or the elbow?”

Team Injury
Angels team as a whole needs to go on DL….. Losing Figgens, Validmer disrupted the whole team chemistry… Glad Guerrero is going to All Star Game…

You could add Howie Kendrick to that list

aybar has sucked all year
kendrick has just sucked since being sandwiched in between the nothing and the second coming of old GA. He’s a future batting champion for chrissakes.

What do you think of Howie's defense so far this year?
I don’t think Howie is really this awful and should improve closer to his career numbers, but he has just plain sucked so far this year too.

his D has been bad
but no worse than aybar or whoever is standing at 3rd.
Something strange going on with this team

One thing really frustrating about Aybar
Is that the one offensive strength that he has, his speed, he doesn’t utilize since he has yet to learn how to get good reads and steal bases. Right now his defense sucks, his high early season BB% is coming back down to earth, and he isn’t hitting. If he isn’t playing good defense (arguably his greatest asset), he is pretty useless to the team.
RIP Nick Adenhart
I can't imagine his defense will stay as bad as it's been.
But ya, hopefully he can figure out how to steal bases effectively, since once he figures it out, he has the speed to be really good at it.
Ha, he can get a "rehab assignment" and work on his swing, genius
I brought sexy back, but they only gave me store credit....
he'll be happy to get regular at bats
and some work with a real hitting coach

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Our season is lost
"Fundamentals are a crutch for the talentless" - Kenny Powers
Was Scioscia winking and nodding when he said it.
I read the Angels Insider link, but it was a little unclear to me whether Scioscia was winking and nodding when he mentioned Wood’s injury.
Didn’t Scioscia say during the weekend that Wood was going to clear his head and that was not even going to do batting practice?
How did he aggravate his hip flexor if he was resting this past weekend? Maybe its not a question that I should ask.
“Okay, Mike, we understand. (wink, wink). Brandon is injured (wink, wink). Tough Break, Kid.”
Wink Wink
Scioscia has been winking all season long with Brandon Wood…. Sure do miss Figgens….

This is killing me
it’s ‘Figgins’, not ‘Figgens’ (Also, ‘Vladimir’, not ‘Validmer’). Sorry- had to do that.
Don't forget, it's "Vladdy", not "Vlade"

Paulo look at Figgy's numbers
pull your head out, Figgy is finished, lots here to criticize, you mancrush ain’t one of em
We missed our chance!
Couldn’t we just say that Wood and Scot Shields were doing windsprints in the outfield and they ran into each other—resulting in an injury to both players.
This could have been our chance to get both Shields and Wood on the DL!
I predicted this exactly
I don’t know how to copy the link to prove it so I just copied and pasted it.
You watch to ‘save his pride’ Mike will put Brandon on the 15 day DL instead of sending him down. This will let him get the message and also build in an excuse for why his play is so bad.
This will happen as soon as Izzy comes back… Magically

This is probably true
However I wrote my prediction down…
There probably were others like Nostradamus-However we remember him because he wrote a book
-My next prediction
Sometime soon, a poster will write something negative about Mickey Hatcher, our bullpen, our FO, and our inability to make a big splash of a trade.
Whew! that took a lot out of me, I am drained. I need to rest and play some XBox now I am wiped out.

His whole batting approach is bothering him and everyone else.

Maybe Fuentes can be sent on the 60-day DL for a malignant upper lip growth.

Wood DL
Thats fine with me…. Wood has cost us many games with his no clutch hit approach attack.

i know, stupid #9 hitters costing their team games
it angers my brain
Somewhere, right now, Mickey Hatcher is ruining a swing.

no but he does seem to come up to bat with runners on base
even just a few hits extra could add 4-5 wins for this team. We are loosing games we shouldn’t because of not scoring when we have the opportunities.
He is not THE reason we are sucking, but he is A reason
1. Walks from Pitchers
2. No clutch hitting
3. Wood’s poor bat/glove
4. Aybar not being a good lead off guy
Those are the reasons -—in order that we are failing.
The pitchers will improve— What else can we do? the Wood problem has no obvious solution, so in the meanwhile he has a mysterious injury and gets some time to think about it
-As will the clutch hitting
-Aybar is still a good player just not a lead off guy, so that leaves Wood as the obvious choice. He is a ‘situation’ that we can actually do something about.
besides TELLING the pitchers to not walk so many guys, and demoting Aybar to 9th

DAMMIT!!!! This is one of my pet peeves…
It’s “LOSE”, guys, not “LOOSE”.
LOSE — 1) To not win. 2) To not be able to find.
LOOSE – 1) Not tight. 2) To release.

Wonder if MLB will investigate this
Jayson Stark actually wrote a rather informative column last year called “Disabled-list conspiracy theories” in which he noted increasing complaints “about the disabled list — and the way certain teams have used it.” Stark noted the suspicious circumstances surrounding the alleged injuries to Dontrelle Willis, Chien Ming Wang, and Oliver Perez.
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/story?columnist=stark_jayson&page=rumblings090514
Given the unusual circumstances here, I would not be surprised if MLB inquires about Wood.
This is abuse of the DL.
I love this team.

it is not against any rules
I don’t like it but it is the equivalent of Al Gore saying, “but I won the popular vote” too bad, the electorial college is what matters.—You can’t change the rules in the middle of the game.
Here is is the same thing. everyone abuses the system because of flaws therein. Until fixed I say use it until you lose it.

I agree with you
If this is the system, I want the Angels to exploit it like everyone else. Otherwise we are giving a competitive advantage to our opponents. What I meant above by referring to abuse of the DL is that all of the comments in the press and common sense suggest that Wood is not really injured, and that this is purely tactical to get him time off and a rehab assignment at AAA without placing him on waivers.
As opposed to a healthy Wood being an abuse of a roster spot...
The DL is the lesser of two abuses. MLB has no case here.
"Wastin away again in Minor-Leaguer-Ville..."
I find the following comments telling:
“So are we allowed to scratch our heads, arch our brows or even laugh out loud at some of these trips to the DL? Heck, why not? We’re just watching the growth, right before our eyes, of another hallowed baseball tradition.”
“It’s kinda like the seventh-inning stretch,” one GM said, laughing. “Except it’s the seventh-inning oblique stretch.”
