Jered Weaver Dominates Ms, Angels Win in May
Final Score in Seattle: Angels 8, Mariners 0... Jered Weaver took a no-hitter into the 7th inning, struck out 7 Mariners and got offensive support from a bases-clearing double by Kendry Morales, a two run homer by Juan Rivera and solo homers by Howie Kendrick and Ryan Budde. The Angels bats chased Cy Young bridesmaid Felix Hernandez in the 4th.
After a long road losing streak the Angels looked like superstars against a once great monster pitcher early and often. Weaver meanwhile walked three, the first baserunner being a BB to former Angel Chone Figgins in the 4th - Figgy was left stranded on second as a prelude to the Mariners being stranded in last place in the AL West. It was the first Angels win in the month of May after consecutive road sweeps at the bats and gloves of the Tigers and the RedChix.
Weaver threw 118 pitches, allowed 2 hits and 3 walks in 7 and 1/3 IP ... there's your ace, folks. Read about at the GAME THREAD and GAME THREAD 2 ... roll call after the poll...

Looking like an ace, pitching like an ace, being an ace, and for god’s sake……being better than his brother.
Alright Brandon, you're free..........and we're waiting.

Beautiful, beautiful game.
That said, can we please use this to build some momentum now? Let’s not have a repeat of that nasty losing streak, hm?

great game against the perennial western division champions, the seattle mariners.
What do you need a fancy suit for, Charlie, you ain't got no job to wear it to.
Their starting pitching is just too good
Not to mention they bolstered their lineup with Milton Bradley.

Hey, Jim? Any chance of a Leave it to Weaver comic to celebrate?

Tonight was a template for what the Angels need to do
- starter pitches deep into the game
- hit for power
The Angels have fundamentally changed from what they were in the mid-2000s. No longer do they have the luxury of a deep, lights out bullpen. And the lineup is a far cry from the slap-and-scamper versions circa 2005-2007. Will this rotation be up to the task of racking up lots of innings? Will the lineup crank out enough HRs to generate a sufficient number of runs? Uncharted territory for Scioscia & Co. Stay tuned.
just hit in general
as long as we are getting hits and scoring runs, I don’t really care how they are being manufactured. But I agree, pitching is key.

I hope Dave Cameron was watching
Last I saw he was selling Playstations for Sony.
Someone should have told him you can get the same functionality from a laptop with a $2 HDMI cable.
i just read that Dave Cameron
is gonna be the prime minister of england… so he has to do fangraphs for cricket matches now i guess…
I predict a Dave Cameron, fangraphs article, on Monday questioning whether or not
Weaver is a true ace pitcher.
F'ing Big Game Weave
Reagins, lock this guy up long term. Number #1 for years to come!
Like the cockroach, you just can't kill Q
Now that was a great game by the Angels. Is Budde the missing sparkplug?
The look on his face when he hit that ball was great and the dugout celebration when he got there was what the Angels badly needed. Saunders, don’t you dare rain down on my Mothers Day weekend.
Really? You are going to take yourself that seriously? Well I guess someone has to.
Damn, but it's a lot more fun coming to HH *this* morning than any other morning this past week

I missed all the chatter here cuz I was at my birthday party...
But the bar had the game on tv. I kept interrupting people when the Angels scored. It’s a great feeling. Last year on my actual birthday was when Saunders outdueled Greinke. BTW, Weaver is a f*@king PIMP. King Felix, my ass.
The time is out of joint; oh cursed spite, that ever I was born to set it right.

Why, yes. WTY *IS* the Ace.
Any Questions?
Angels baseball. We do what we must, because we can -- HaloDutch
POG should be WTY
But I voted for K’Mo just for his having fulfilled the prophecy of that MLB 2K10 ad.
You KNOW he and “King” Felix thought about it…. And yet, who won the match-up?

Here's the deal when Weave isn't pitching:
The other 4 starters struggle through 5 innings (hopefully); then:
5th/6th inning: Bulger/Shields
7th inning: Jepsen
8th inning; Rodney
9th: Fuentes
Rinse and repeat
Man, this reminds me of 2002
