Does Aybar need to be motivated?

I notice in the 2nd half of 2008, Aybar didn't start playing very well until there were rumors circulating that with Maicer out, Brandon Wood was going to be promoted and take SS. Then Aybar took off and with the exception of a failed bunt attempt in Boston, wasn't awful.

Fast forward to 2009, after an ice cold start, Izzy starts getting more playing time and rumors about a Brandon Wood promotion begin circulating once again, then Aybar conveniently goes on a tear and has a career season while he's doing everything he can to make sure SS is his, and not Izzy's.

Fast forward to 2010, in the leadoff role, to start the season, Aybar flounders and finally Mike goes with the decision to demote Aybar to the 9 hole and promote Izzy to leadoff. Since then Aybar's been unstoppable and is back in the leadoff spot.

Maybe it's coincidence, or maybe Aybar's the type of guy who plays better when there's something on the line. What does Halos Heaven think?
