Lowell could have been an Angel
Not sure how true this rumor is, but if Reagins really turned it down I'm growing less and less confident in him as a competent GM.

Lowell is crap
He’s hitting about .220 in Fenway park, their team has no confidence in him playing the field anymore, and he runs like a Molina. We turned down Boston’s crap in order to take the Met’s crap for our existing pile of CF crap.
I’d prefer a roster that has neither Lowell, Matthews, or Stokes on it. No loss here at all.
The HK-47 hitting droid is the finest line drive machine ever built
You're probably right
But his crap surely would have been less pungent than that of Matthews or Stokes. As bad as his average has been this year (with largely irregular ab’s) his OBP is still 100 points higher than his average, something no one could have ever said about Matthews. The lack of confidence Boston has in his defense probably has more to do with the two guys they have manning the corners at the moment, though I agree he looked awful at third last year.
My point is if we had a chance to trade Matthews straight up for him, it would have made more sense than just flushing all that money down the toilet for a useless bullpen arm. Lowell at least had a chance to provide some value, while Matthews and Stokes provide negative value.
Stokes was considered a good bullpen arm
He put up very good numbers in 2008 in limited appearances (3.51 ERA, 8 BBs, 26 Ks, and an ERA+ of 121), and then was inconsistent for the Mets last season when he pitched more than twice as many innings (3.97 ERA, 38 BBs, 45 Ks, ERA+ of 104). Mets fans thought he had value, as their comments in their blog at the time of the trade reflect.
Obviously, he has been terrible this season, which may or may not be due in part or entirely to his shoulder fatigue.
And even if the rumor was true, I wouldn't blame Reagins for not making the trade.
The thumb injury mentioned eventually required surgery and added to the already pretty long list of questions about Lowell’s abilities at this point. Texas had a deal for him pretty much set until they found out he would need surgery on his thumb.
Lowell also benefits quite a bit from Fenway Park.
A 1st or 3rd baseman
wasn’t in Reagins’s mind during the offseason. He had B. Wood getting his shot at 3rd with Kendry covering 1st. Lowell would have no place during that time.
It's possible
that Reagins was considering Lowell to be the full time DH, if it was before we signed Matsui, and we knew that we weren’t resigning Guerrero
We're putting the band back togehter.
Does dmhead stand for Dumbhead?
Who the fuck gives a shit? Lowell sucks and this post is a waste of space
sry dmhead, I was pretty wasted.
I still think the post is a waste, but no reason to call you names.

Funny thing is
I just read it for the first time about 2 minutes ago and just started laughing. I was surprised it took so long for someone to make that joke.
I kind of agree about the post, mostly because I threw it up there without even realizing its already been debunked. I still think at the time, if you have a chance to dump Matthews on the Sux and get anything semi useful in return, you do it. I guess Stokes was the best we could have hoped for.
