Angels Midseason Minor League All-Star Team
Fellow HHers, in the spirit of the midsummer classic, I just thought I'd compile a list of the Angels Minor League 25 man all-star squad. If you have any suggestions for different players, here's your forum. Wanna make fun of Halowood for his uncanny Michael Kohn mancrush obsession, here's your forum, though game threads are also a great place for that too. Enjoy!
STARTING LINEUP:
C-Hank Conger AAA SLC: 47 GP .285 BA .373 OBP 12 DB 4 HR. Has played solid defense and has taken a renewed organizational philosophy pressing pitch recognition to heart.
1B-Mark Trumbo AAA SLC: 58 GP .281 BA .322 OBP 10 DB 14 HR. Trumbo has thrown caution to the wind. K/BB ratio be damned, Trumbo wants that AAA HR record.
2B- Alex Amarista A+ Rancho: 60 GP .321 BA .371 OBP 15 DB 6 TR 4 HR 15 SB. Pretty much the same as last year, steals a ton of bags and gets thrown out a bunch. But he hits EVERYTHING.
3B- Casey Haerther A Cedar Rapids: .324 BA .348 OBP 10 DB 4 HR. UCLA grad Haerther is impressing in a league generally unfriendly to hitters. Expect his power numbers to rise in Cal League.
SS- Darwin Perez A+ Rancho: 58 GP .274 BA .350 OBP 4 DB 7 TR 2 HR 9 SB. Toolsy SS in the Erick Aybar mold hasn't lived up to expectations and has committed 10 Errors.
OF - Tyson Auer A+ Rancho: 59 GP .329 BA .384 OBP 5 DB 8 TR 2 HR 36 SB. Yeah he wasn't supposed to be good last year either.
OF - Roberto Lopez A+/AA Ark: 60 GP .297 BA .376 BP 19 DB 7 HR. USC grad continually surprises. Rough year last year, but very successful rookie campaign and thrashed the Cal League before promotion.
OF - Mike Trout A Cedar Rapids: 60 GP .364 BA .441 OBP 12 DB 7 TR 6 HR 32 SB. Simply the best. What else can I say?
DH - Paul McAnulty AA Ark/AAA SLC: 54 GP .323 BA .406 OBP. 3 DB 15 HR Padre flameout was so good in AA pitchers league I almost vomited.
Bench: Cory Aldridge OF SLC, Jeremy Moore OF Ark, Luis Jimenez 3B RC, Gabe Jacobo 1B RC, Jean Segura 2B CR, Andrew Romine SS Ark, Jose Jimenez C CR.
Starting Pitcher - Tyler Chatwood A+ Rancho: 75 IP 68 K's 1.67 ERA 8 W 2 L. Chatwood has been dominant in a league where hitting rules and pitching suffers.
Rotation (2-5): Tyler Skaggs CR, Garret Richards CR, Orangel Arenas CR, Fabio Martinez CR.
Bullpen: Michael Kohn SLC, Robert Fish Ark, Andrew Taylor RC, Jeremy Berg CR, Eddie McKiernan RC
Alternates: The entire Dominican Summer League rotation. Those guys are nuts.
Most Valuable Player: Mike Trout. Duh.

Michael Kohn is a beast waiting to be unleashed on the majors.
You heard it hear first. :-P
~Till the Halo burns out...
Ummm people have been saying that since like last year.
We betrayed Vlad, the greatest Angel. Epic fail.
Doesn't matter.
Zu’s word is almost like the gospel in these here parts. When he speaks, we listen.
ALL HAIL ZU LONG!
Alright Brandon, you're free..........and we're waiting.

I haven't got a clue
But hey, this bandwagon is riding higher the a jacked up F350. So, I think I’ll jump on board and maybe down the line be able to tell everyone I saw it all the way.
Trumbo
“Trumbo has thrown caution to the wind. K/BB ratio be damned, Trumbo wants that AAA HR record.”
Because that did wonders for Brandon Wood. I don’t care how many HR’s a prospect hits, if he’s racking up K’s against AAA pitching, his major league future isn’t bright.
Yup I agree, this al-star selection is based purely off of performance, not prospect status.
We betrayed Vlad, the greatest Angel. Epic fail.
There's this guy named Mark Reynolds who disagrees.
Alright Brandon, you're free..........and we're waiting.

Reynolds is considerably more athletic than Trumbo.
Good on Trumbo for dropping some weight, he looks much better, much more like an athlete. But Reynolds had more power, more speed, and more versatility in the field than Trumbo has flashed. Not a good comp.
I can’t wait for the day Trumbo learns to work the count. He might be 26 or 27 before that happens, but when it does I think we have a legit 30 HR threat in our hands.
We betrayed Vlad, the greatest Angel. Epic fail.
And by that I mean...
He won’t be promoted if his OBP stays down at .320. He’s still a 30 HR threat.
We betrayed Vlad, the greatest Angel. Epic fail.
I wasn't comparing the two.
IT was the K/HR comment. Brandon Wood has a ton of power, but struck out a bunch. They messed with his approach, and now we have a sissy at the plate. Sometimes a kid K’s alot (And Reynolds holds the single season record). But they don’t get cheated at the plate because they swing with everything they have.
Alright Brandon, you're free..........and we're waiting.

Guys like Dunn or Reynolds
do strike out a lot, but they make up for it with amazing offensive numbers. Reynolds is also decent in the field, and has speed to go with power. Sorta like Vlad back in 04 except if Vlad swung, he made contact.
If you strike out a lot in the majors...
…it doesn’t matter all that much. If you’re 2 for 5 with 2 K’s, who cares? That’s a .400 average. Plus you might have a lot of power, like Dunn.
If you strike out a ton in the minors, you’re probably toast. Because every pitcher in MLB is better than every pitcher in AAA. The warning signs were there for Wood last year, and now his chances of being a good major league player are slim.
