Seems that Maicer Izturis is hurting badly enough to be withheld from the lineup tonight.
UPDATE: Izturis to the DL, Pitcher Sean O'Sullivan called up to the big club for Bullpen depth.

Why can't this guy stay healthy?

He’d be a fantastic player if he could keep it all together, physically.

I love this team.

2B Howard Kendrick
1B Mike Napoli
RF Bobby Abreu
CF Torri Hunter
DH Hideki Matsui
LF Juan Rivera
C Bobby Wilson
SS Brandon Wood

They want power. We want respect...

What the.....

Napoli’s our #2 hitter?

I’d go

RF Abreu
3B Frandsen
CF Hunter
DH Matsui
LF Rivera
2B Kendrick
1B Napoli
C Wilson
SS Wood

We betrayed Vlad, the greatest Angel. Epic fail.

Damn OC Register forgot 3B

maybe franny goes #2 or #7

If he goes #2, Naps is our 3 hitter, I think Scioscia prefers Abreu or Hunter there.

I’d expect #7. The lineup really doesn’t matter so much though. Mike has constructed some pretty quirky lineups that were successful.

We betrayed Vlad, the greatest Angel. Epic fail.

by Halowood on Jun 16, 2010 3:37 PM PDT up reply actions

Maybe Soth has fallen in love with Naps, thus giving him a shot in the 3 spot. If he gave Izzy a shot why not Naps—please note I’m not that big of a fan of Naps.

Fred Frendrix posted the lineup earlier from a better source:
LINK

Howie 2b
Naps 1b
Abroo Rf
Hula Dula Cf
Matsui dh
Juan Lf
Frandsen 3b
Wilson C
Wood SS

I love this team.

by Downing Rules on Jun 16, 2010 4:04 PM PDT up reply actions

I knew it was coming eventually:

Kendrick in the leadoff spot.

Napoli in the two hole. Why not. Look at his career OBP.

Wood playing SS may wake him up.

by wumbug on Jun 16, 2010 3:41 PM PDT up reply actions

If he's out of the lineup....

That probably means Frandsen at 3B, Wood at SS and Naps at 1B, with Wilson catching.

We betrayed Vlad, the greatest Angel. Epic fail.

Are preemies generally frail adults?

Cesar Izturis born February 10, 1980 source

Maicer Izturis born September 12, 1980 source

By my mathematical wizardry, that puts Maicer at only being gestated for 7 months, assuming Mr. Izturis was already “making whoopie” with Momma Mice-Tits the day after Cesar was born. That’s a short time in the oven for little Mighty Mouse.

I love this team.

I think they are half brothers

I love Napoli in the #2 spot. Nice way to shake up the lineup. I’d even try him leadoff.

I started following this team in 82, so I’m partial to slugging catchers/former catchers who get on base a lot batting #1.

Angels should make a trade

Having to rely on One of either Wood or Q on a consistent basis could very well be the difference between postseason or no postseason.

Make a trade for a guy like Wigginton who can play a lot of positions who can actually contribute something with the bat. He shouldn’t cost a whole lot certainly not a top prospect but maybe a mid-level guy.

by MH252525 on Jun 16, 2010 6:47 PM PDT reply actions

Iwamura, perhaps?

Just DFA’d by the Pirates… couldn’t cost TOO much in a trade at this point, I reckon.

by poguemahone on Jun 16, 2010 9:42 PM PDT up reply actions

No time to panic man....

Mathis will be back this weekend, so you can forget about Napoli behind the plate altogether. It will be Mathis 8/10 games and Wilson the other 2. Izzy’s probably only out two weeks, Aybar, best case scenario two weeks. Frandsen has a handle on 3B, the guy can flat out hit. Wood honestly looked good, happy and comfortable back at SS today. There’s a chance this is just what will wake him up. I used to believe Wood would only hit if he played SS, a psycological thing.

Napoli’s only opportunity in this lineup is first base. If we trade for Wiggington, that limits Howie’s PT at 2B, Frandsen and Woody’s time at 3B and Napoli’s time at 1B.

We betrayed Vlad, the greatest Angel. Epic fail.

by Halowood on Jun 16, 2010 10:32 PM PDT up reply actions

Good thinking. Possibly some wisdom.

It’s possible that playing SS is just what BWood needs. He’s durable enough.

It actually irritates me that so many fail to see/accept the value of Quinlan……short-sighted. He’s Plan B for 3B and 1B.

For the time being, Frandsen is Plan A at 3B, Plan B at SS.

Let’s run with it a few days.

Pineiro was great today!…….again.

by wumbug on Jun 17, 2010 2:40 AM PDT up reply actions

Funny you should say that

It actually irritates me that some people fail so see/accept that Q is so bad offensively, is at best slightly below average on the bases and on defense, that the Angels can literally pick people up for FREE that are better than him. They already have in Frandsen and Ryan this year.

The guy put up an OPS of like 640 in AAA this year…. It’s around like 400 in his playing time with the Angels. The guy is BAD and shouldn’t be a Plan B or a Plan Z.

I'm not arguing the stats or their meaning.

Scioscia & Co. obviously feel a comfort level with Quinlan that others don’t (don’t want to) feel. He’s been a member of the “Angels Family” long enough that they know what they’ve got, and are comfortable with that.

Why does everyone think that a utility role player who gets the job done, must be a superstar? Where are they going to play him every day, and how much are they going to pay him to be a sub?

by wumbug on Jun 17, 2010 8:33 AM PDT up reply actions

I'm with you on this one

Quinlan does his job. He provides rest for the starters, makes the routine plays on defense & occasionally adds something offensively.

He can also cover 4 positions, what has he done that is so bad except not be Izturus?

I play music for your entertainment

I thought it was a confidence booster...

that the first three plays of the 6/16 game ended up going to Woody at short. I was thinking that maybe the pressure was off now that he “got into the game.” Let’s see if that worked.

I love this team.

by Downing Rules on Jun 17, 2010 1:45 PM PDT up reply actions

Where or where did I say he must be anything close to a superstar?

I don’t think he needs to be anything close to that. The guy has an OPS of 375 in the Minors which is below what Brandon Wood has done. Brandon can at least play SS.

by MH252525 on Jun 17, 2010 9:15 AM PDT reply actions

I agree that Ryan has better numbers than Q...

but, are you willing to risk putting in a AAAA player who might struggle even worse than Q? How do you know Ryan or Frandsen are going to do better than Q over the long haul?

I love this team.

by Downing Rules on Jun 17, 2010 1:48 PM PDT up reply actions

Q has a .375 OPS man

.375…. do you realize how bad that is? It doesn’t really matter how bad Ryan or Frandsen do, Q has shown that he isn’t getting the job done for a long time now. If Ryan or Frandsen do worse then release them until they bring up someone/sign someone that does do a better job.

by MH252525 on Jun 17, 2010 8:29 PM PDT up reply actions

Your're looking at a snapshot

that doesn’t show the whole story.

….And there are a lot of other details being ignored also.

Quinlan has done whatever job he has been asked to do. He’s not hurting the team.

Speaking of Frandsen; Is there a single soul reading this thread who would have believed what he has done if that person had been told the story immediately after he was signed? I suggest….No Way!

by wumbug on Jun 17, 2010 9:28 PM PDT up reply actions

Yea I look at those exact same stats and see a completely horrible player

that should have been let go a LONG time ago.

Robb has 4 straight years of a declining OPS. Those 4 years have seen him have a NEGATIVE WAR (Wins above replacement).

So year the “snapshot” shows a guy who for 4 straight years has been below replacement level and who is getting considerably worse.

His minor league stats? Yea in 2006 Q was a valuable guy to have around…. but what has he done lately…. Oh I see when he went to AAA this year and got over 100 plate appearances the guy couldn’t SLUG higher than .322???

As for Frandsen, certainly he has exceeded most everyone’s expectations but the guy was at one point a decent prospect so much so that he was considered the likely guy to bat 2nd for SF. And we picked him up for FREE and he’s so much better than Q. How many other better players are out there that have already retired because their illogical manger didn’t have a mancrush on them….?!!!??

by MH252525 on Jun 18, 2010 7:49 AM PDT up reply actions

Yes, I do ...

but it is only 30 AB’s. You have some serious Scioscia rash in unspeakable locations. I don’t recall ever reading a positive message of yours.

While I am not a Quinlan fan by ANY STRETCH OF THE IMAGINATION, I think Scioscia is doing the right thing here at this moment.

How is Ryan’s OPS over his career? Does it touch Quinlan’s 724? Oh, and how do Ryan’s MAJOR LEAGUE stats during the last four years compare to Robb Quinlan’s? Go do that research: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/r/ryanmi03.shtml

I love this team.

by Downing Rules on Jun 18, 2010 5:48 PM PDT up reply actions

I'm not saying Ryan is some great player, all I'm saying

is that Q has shown he is not a major league caliber player over the past 4 years. He’s getting older and as a result worse not better. Just keep bringing people up that are hitting well in the minors until we find someone that can do better than replacement level because Q is not cutting it.
