Do you still root for Brandon Wood? Deep down inside, do you still hope that Brandon will turn it around and end the year above the mendoza line? I am one person who certainly does. However, one quick look at Mr. Wood's stat-line in comparison to some other journey-man minor league infielder by the name of Kevin Frandsen reveals to one just how horribly atrocious Wood is performing offensively for us. Check this out:
Let's just forget three stats right now in this comparison: AVG, OBP and SLG. Due to the difference in the amount of AB's between these two players, it's just unfair. What ISN'T unfair is looking at all the other stats...prepare to cringe:
Wood: AB: 136 R: 11 H: 23 2B: 1 HR: 2 RBI: 8 TB: 30 BB: 2
Frandsen: AB: 67 R: 12 H: 23 2B:6 HR:0 RBI:6 TB: 29 BB: 4
YEP, in LESS THAN HALF OF THE AT-BATS, Frandsen has more or is nearly equal with Wood is every single one of these categories. You know what adjective comes to mind in regards to Wood when making this comparison: PATHETIC.
Now, Frandsen is most likely playing above his potential and judging from Wood's minor league career, he seems to be playing well below his potential. Nevertheless, you have to wonder how long to Angels would put up with Wood if it wasn't for the slew of injuries the team has suffered.
Ladies and gentlemen, barring injury, I believe Kevin Frandsen is officially your new third baseman.
Or at least until Izzy returns...; )
