Garret says "I never ran over there agressively"
Warning: This quote is entirely taken out of context ...
"Ever since they raised the padding on that wall out there, there’s always been problems over there," Anderson said. "That concrete is exposed, and it’s a coin flip. … The padding always used to go all the way to the dirt, so the ball never kicked that far. I remember errors in two straight games after they raised the padding, so I never ran over there aggressively any more since then."

He's talking about left field, I presume.
I can’t remember who, but I seem to remember two separate instances in right field when the fielders seriously hurt their legs sliding into the base of the wall in foul territory.
So Garret’s talking about their raising the padding……..I thought the padding had been lowered in order to prevent the injuries I described.
Dave Roberts slid in
and banged his knee pretty severely – interleague game when he was a Padre, I think it went as an inside the park HR…

I thought that was against the Orioles ...
and Vladdy was the benefactor of the ITP-HR.
I love this team.

that still doesn't explain
Why he never hustled into the gaps or coming in.
We betrayed Vlad, the greatest Angel. Epic fail.
You can call him lazy all day long--and be wrong.
Perhaps you would prefer him to take lousy routes to the ball and then have to dive to make a highlight catch ala GMJ. The last year he was fully healthy, 2003, among right fielders, he had the second best range factor in MLB, barely behind Carl Crawford, a speedster nine years younger than him; led MLB in assists and led the AL in fielding percentage. In other words, he got to more balls, made fewer errors and threw out more batters than all those players who “hustled.” You are like those NY fans who say Jeter is a great fielding SS because he makes all those highlight real plays when in reality the facts say he is one of the worst fielding SS in MLB.
GA was a great fielding RF and was underrated because he did his job so well. His ability to read the ball off the bat was unsurpassed and the reason he didn’t go diving after balls all the time is because he didn’t have to. I loved to watch Erstad make those diving catches, but I also knew that I could count on him to be hurt, not out there playing for part of the season. I appreciate GA for playing smarter than most and contributing more because of it.
I am a fair weather fan so the Angels better win!
