Angels Interested in Blalock?
I'm not sure how reliable of a source Mike DiGiovanna is, but apparently, Reagins has some interest in 1B/3B/DH Hank Blalock, who was just DFA'd by the Rays.
I wouldn't really be too happy with this potential acquisition. Where would we put him? I don't think he would produce more than Napoli, Izturis/Frandsen/Wood, or Matsui.

I have no doubt that our moron GM is interested in him.

Hmmm seems he has done a good job to me unless you can't see what he has done.

I don't get it.
Just about everyone interested in baseball sees the following problems in order of importance:
1) Terrible relief pitching that lets too many leads and close games get away.
2) Hit or miss 4th and completely unreliable 5th starter.
3) Shallow roster depth at 3rd and 1st, but so far filled in by guys who are contributing well both offensively and defensively.
Somehow, every rumor we hear is about point 3 taking on the importance of point 1. I just don’t get it.

Well there isn't much in the way of RPs that are likely to be available on the trade block.
That said, no thanks on Blalock.
I know, but we have a couple in AAA
And there are definitely some SP available that could fill our 5 spot while someone mind melds with Kazmir to figure out what’s wrong with him.
We don’t need anymore position players and we certainly don’t need to give up the most powerful hitter on our current roster to get another one. Unless we wind up with Pujols or something, we need to focus on pitching.

What's wrong with Kazmir:
1. He can’t throw strikes, like always.
2. He doesn’t throw enough innings, like always.
3. He doesn’t throw especially hard, like he did when he was actually useful.
Unless Mike Butcher has some magic pixie dust that will help him regain that velocity, Kaz is a pretty awful pitcher. After the Tex trade, it’s been a pretty bad run for Reagins.
Well, let's be real here
If Butcher is actually capable of mind melds, I don’t think magic pixie dust is too much of a stretch.

They're like rumors in high school
They mean nothing, and they were most likely just made up (or it’s fifth-hand info)
I don't want to see the Angels do anything other than pitching
and mostly relief at that
I hear that Shea Hillenbrand is available
Let’s not sign other people’s throwaways and discards. Can we agree on that?
Rory Markas. Alex Chilton. 2010, you suck!
Blalock couldn't hurt. He was once good and is still only 29 years old.
He wouldn’t cost any prospects an would cost us less than the league minimum. I say sign him if it means him replacing Quinlan. I don’t want Blalock here unless its in a reserve role. I’m fully confident in the abilities of Izturis, Napoli, Frandsen and Wood.
If Blalock by some miraculous measure rediscovers what once made him really dangerous, then he can play. If not, just use him in a Quinlan type of role or as a power bat off the bench.
We betrayed Vlad, the greatest Angel. Epic fail.
Rediscover what?
The Ballpark in Arlington? Steroids? Blalock is done done done. We should not bother.
Hard to argue with that, I really don't have an answer
I mean if he can’t hit major league pitcher, as you said, he’s done. I’m curious to see if he can. Quinlan can’t and he’s on our team.
We betrayed Vlad, the greatest Angel. Epic fail.
That's something I do agree with
But the Q fascination has gone far beyond all reason. Being “better than Quinlan” obviously isn’t too important to this organization.
I liked the idea of Blalock
Earlier in the year when he was mashing in AAA. The Rays did too, but it was just a mirage, so now he’s available again. Blalock is not going to replace Napoli at first, and he’s not more than a part-timer at 3rd, as Frandsen and later Izzy are better.
But he could provide a useful bat off the bench if Scioscia is finally willing to part with his Quinlan. Last night we could have used him. When Bobby Wilson came to bat in the 8th I wondered, why are we not pinch hitting for him?
Then I though about the bench: Quinlan, Wood, Mathis, Rivera. All right handed. And Rivera is the only one who would be a better option, I guess Sosh just felt he needed a full day off. Blalock would have come in handy there.
"That boy is our last hope" - Obi Wan Scioscia, as Francisco Rodriguez left for the Mets. "No, there is another" - Yoda Reagins.

As soon as Izzy comes back then someone has to go, Q probably.
If we signed Blalock someone else would have to go as well. BWood? Frandsen? Izzy?

Well... we could move KMo to the 60 day, and then we'd have a 40-man slot open.
