Kotchman revisited?
What do you think about trading a prospect to Seattle for Casey Kotchman. It looks they are going to play their 1B prospect Carp (not as good as a Trout or a Salmon) and use Casey as a late-inning defensive replacement - which means they would probably part with him. He brings gold glove caliber defense and a left-handed bat - Sosh can platoon him at first with Naps. I'm not sure of his contract status but if he's not a free agent at the end of the year, he's a great addition to our bench. I don't know - maybe I'm just being sentimental.

I bought a Kotchman jersey in protest
the day the Angels brought in Teixeira. My sister and I both wore our Kotchman jerseys the first home game Teixeira played. But I don’t necessarily want to see the Angels bring him back. I think they have better options to work with.
Agreed.
I’m going to file this post under “I have completely run out of ideas, and will write the first fool thing that comes into my head, and then read the outraged and frequently hostile comments, and then snicker to myself.”
Rory Markas. Alex Chilton. 2010, you suck!
Maybe if they were willing to trade him to us for cash or Q
I don’t think I’d give up any prospects for him
Agreed. No prospects
Casey’s making something like 4 million this year, isn’t he?
If we want him, we should offer nothing more than taking on his salary. Which should be worth it to the Mariners if they aren’t going to play him. It’s a big if on whether he’d be worth having on the roster though. Mathis has been rehabbing in AAA, hit a homerun last night. We all know that when Mathis is healthy, he’s going to play at least 50% of the time.
Do you ever want to see a lineup with Mathis catching, Kotchman at first, and Napoli on the bench? I don’t, so probably best not to bother

No
All he does is ground out, ground in to double plays. We have plenty of in house better options. The only thing Kotch has going for him is his great defensive ability still.
I'm not as bad as all of you.
nah
If we want a no-hit 1B, then we can just start Q.
I wouldn’t mind if Casey finishes his career here (ala Junior), but not this year.
we should trade for Crap
and have Trout in the outfield and have Salmon as hitting coach.

Overrated Kotch still getting SENTIMENTAL love?
Christ, has there ever been an angel so undeserving of the amount of fans swinging from his jock?
Kotch sucks at baseball. End of story.
and ROFL @ the Kotch finishing his career as an angel, like junior in seattle comment.

What do you need a fancy suit for, Charlie, you ain't got no job to wear it to.
I also laughed at that comment
Comparing Kotch’s career in Anaheim to Junior’s career in Seattle, wow, just wow.
Apparently, for some Halo fans. . .
you will have to pull that 2003 Baseball America scouting report on Kotchman from their cold, dead fingers.

You should read up on the history of Kotch and the Angels...
Kotch doesn’t like Soth and the Angels FO very much for basically dangling him as trade bait the entire time he was an Angel. When he finally got traded he made comments about how he was happy to be gone from Anaheim…

In fairness. . .
I’m sure that Kotchman’s perspective might have changed some in the meantime. When the trade happened, Kotchman no doubt still thought that he was still someone who should be starting in the majors. Since, that time, he has been seriously humbled. Perhaps more significant is what Kotchman may have said to Scioscia in private. You could be right, insofar, he could have burned bridges when he left the team.
Personally, Kotchman can probably look forward to a Doug Mientkiewicz type career at best. He’s probably not even that good, but that is probably the best and the most that he can look forward to.

First off, that's a shit load of an assumption on your part...
Have you been engaged in personal email exchanges with Kotch? No, I didn’t think so.
Also, you’re actually missing the point. The reason why Kotch has issues with the Angels organization, is because the Angels organization didn’t value him. Thus, the reason why he was constantly dangled as trade-bait….and of course, Scioscia plays such a major role in this organization that it would be dumb to assume that Soth didn’t give his big thumbs up when they were attempting to ship him out.

No less than a "shit load" of assumption you are making, sir.
If you’re going to shovel it, be prepared to have it shovelled back on your lawn.
What makes you think that he’s still angry. Have you spoken with him? Do you have a tap on his phone?
Moreover, have you ever been angry? Have you ever subsequently changed your mind?
All I am saying is that alot has changed for Kotchman since he expressed his disappointment in the organization. One would like to think that its possible for a mature human being to grow and mature over the passage of time.

you miss the point again...let me be succinct:

That wasn't your point. . .
Read your own post.
“Kotch doesn’t like Soth and the Angels FO very much for basically dangling him as trade bait the entire time he was an Angel. "
Your comment was that Kotchman wouldn’t even want to come here, because he was still pissed at being dangled.
Your comment was NOT that the Angels did not value him and therefore dangled him. BTW: I don’t disagree with that last point. Its just not the point you had made earlier.
by righteous halo on Jun 11, 2010 12:58 PM PDT up reply actions
Yup.
I totally remember all of that. It’s ironic knowing who his dad is that Kotchman was one of the few Angels in the Sosh era who seemed happy to leave. Lackey and K-Rod are two others. I think Garland made some negative comments.

They mentioned it about a dozen times during the Seattle series. Rojos and that Langston fella.

I was stoked to hear Langston
but man does he have a douchy hair cut.

Anything that diminishes what Youkilis has done
is something I support.
I have to say no on this move
I think the only things that have any real chance of going down are some sort of Konerko for Wood move or Lowell after getting DFA’d and going to the bargain bin.

I'm hoping for Ty Wiggington
He would hardly be “the answer”, but the Orioles are pretty much done for the year and Wiggington plays both first and third, which would be helpful for us. He also has good power. Also, he shouldn’t cost that much in trade.
Everytime I think of Ty Wiggington, I always get him confused with Ty Pennington of Home Makeover.

MOVE THAT BUS!
He plays 1B and 3B? But we already have the greatest Qorner infielder in the Qame.

Wigginton
Is one of the most godawful defenders anywhere you put him. Even at 1B. Good bat, but our team is bad enough defensively as it is.

Perhaps
Dr. Yocum could make us a great 1st baseman using Kotch and Wigginton?

No thanks -- glad he's gone
However, what’s Von Hayes up to these days?

Casey = Sad
I think it’s too bad that he sucks. Being the son of the very important Tom Kotchman, it would have made for a better story if he turned out to be the Angels greatest 1B ever. But alas and alack…
