The "Must Win" Month for the Angels

Most HHers would agree, this series with the Rangers is a must win for the Angels.  Or at the very least a "must split".  I don't want to pretend the series isn't that important, because it is, but after looking at the schedules across the next month, it has become clear (to me at least) that do or die time is going to be a much more drawn out process.  Much like the season itself, it will be a grind.  I'll show you what I'm talking about.

Schedule for the Rangers (7/22 - 8/18)

4 games vs Angels at home.

3 games vs A's at home.

3 games vs Angels in Anaheim.

3 games vs M's in Seattle.

3 games vs A's in Oakland.

2 games vs Yankees at home.

3 games vs Red Sox at home.

3 games against the Rays in Tampa Bay.

As you can see, the Rangers are going to see an absolute onslaught of important division games, inclusing a 9 game road trip AND also including an 8 game stretch against (arguably) the 3 best teams in baseball.

Schedule for the Angels (7/22 - 8/15)

4 games vs Rangers in Arlington.

3 games vs Red Sox at home.

3 games vs Rangers at home.

3 games vs O's in Baltimore.

3 games vs Tigers in Detroit.

3 games vs Royals at home.

3 games vs Toronto at home.

As you can see, while the Angels schedule more than likely won't be any easier than the Rangers, it is more favorable in that there are less divisional games, and only a 6 game road trip.  Plus series against the Orioles, Royals and Blue Jays.

As much as it is do or die time for the Angels, it is equally so for the Rangers.  If the Angels sweep the Rangers, the Rangers face a grueling schedule over the next month where they may be hard pressed to hold off any Angel surge.  If they split, the Angels will still have 3 weeks to gain ground on the Rangers, with a schedule that is in the Angels favor (in my opinion).

I like the Angels chances coming into this series.  We have Maicer back, our offense woke up in New York, the Rangers offense was shut down the final game in Detroit, we have Weaver going up against Lee, and if anyone can beat that traveling Cy Young candidate, it's Weave, and I like the following 3 pitching matchups as well.  This is the month where we make our move.
