Angels acquire Dan Haren for Joe Saunders, Patrick Corbin, Rafael Rodriguez, and Tyler Skaggs
As a Diamondbacks baseball fan, I'm just glad he didn't go to the Yanks. The broadcast of today's Dbacks/Giants game broke the news. Here's MLBTR's report:
The Angels have acquired Dan Haren from Arizona, according to Andrew Baggarly of the Mercury News (via Twitter). Arizona will receive Joe Saunders, Patrick Corbin, Rafael Rodriguez, and a player to be named later in return.
It was first reported by Bill Plunkett and Dan Woike of the Orange County Register that Saunders was involved in a trade.
Hopefully he can be the guy that gives the final push to get you guys to/through the playoffs. When he's in his zone, he can be one of the best pitchers in the game (see: first half 2009).

And in my case
I was responding to Dipoto’s statement about what it would require for the a team to acquire Haren: Two starting arms and a relief pitcher, with the implication being “MLB-ready” or a current player.
Saunders fits that bill, but Corbin and (presumably) Skaggs are years away, and Raffi Rodriguez isn’t the sort of impact player Dipoto was describing, even though he is technically “MLB-ready”.
If you look at his standards as announced, it would have appeared to be Santana (not Saunders), Jepsen (not Rodriguez) and a AAA starter (not Corbin or Skaggs). I was stunned when I read the news bulletin because the players given up were far lower in overall quality than he had indicated earlier. Saunders is a nice pitcher but he’s a #3 going for a #1. Rodriguez might flourish in Arizona (assuming the state will let him in), but I never saw the stuff of a MLB player when he played for the Angels. Corbin and Skaggs might both turn out to be huge finds for the Dbacks, but neither figures to see the big leagues until 2012 at the earliest.
I don’t know if Diposto is that bad or Reagins is that good, but the players the Angels gave up are much less overall than the Dbacks had claimed would be required just a few days ago.
Possible mitigating circumstance: The Angels might have been the only team inquiring, since very few teams could take on Haren’s salary, much as with Kazmir. If the Yankees didn’t come to the dance (as has been rumored), then the Angels might have been the only trading partner the Dbacks had. I would have expected the Phillies and Mets to be in that mix, though.

If this was a rental
it was foolish unless we upgrade the bullpen and the offense too. Dan Haren alone isn’t going to turn us into winners this year.
If this was for multiple years it might be a good thing.
Haren has multiple years left on his contract.
Years later, Clutch still needs to chill.

Thank God...
I thought we just made a stupid trade. Looks like we’re good then.
This is most definitely not a stupid trade...
We bought low on a workhorse, borderline ace and a perfect compliment to Weaver and Santana for years to come…
by TheQuestforMerlin on Jul 25, 2010 3:38 PM PDT up reply actions
Yes I agree. I initially thought he was a half season rental.
and I was trying to understand how dropping a starter and a reliever and then adding another starter helped us this year.
This helps us this year and next and etc...
I’m so happy with this!

I can't believe it at the moment
I’m expecting the PTBNL to be someone relatively good but we don’t need Corbin or Rodriguez.
And Haren is a significant upgrade on Joe Saunders.
It’s what we said we needed when we get to the playoffs, having top notch guys to match up with the Yanks etc

I'd be surprised if Conger
Since they have Miguel Montero. Who is “outstanding” but not Trout?
Off the top of my head it could be Richards, Martinez-Mesa (AZ needs pitching, could be an all pitching deal), Amarista, Conger, Segura, or Bourjos. Is Reckling still a top prospect? Horrible at AAA but has pitched well since the demotion to AA and he’s still young for that level.
I could hope that they’d consider Brandon Wood. For him to play alongside Mark Reynolds might be the best, and only, option to salvage his career.

Yes, many people did.
They are known as Ray fans.
His BABIP is pretty high.

He played on the
Diamondbacks. Of course his ERA is high.
WTY's ERA+ = 135 : - / -- Kevin Frandsen > Brandon Wood??????
The homers have hurt his ERA (Haren has allowed 23 HRs)
But with a K/9 ratio of 9.00, an xFIP of 3.38 and consistent velocity over the last three years, the ovrerall numbers actually look okay. I hope the scouting reports confirm that his stuff is still as good as ever.
by Fan Since 1981 on Jul 25, 2010 4:09 PM PDT up reply actions
His ERA is high due to...
a career high BABIP rate and HR/FB rate. Basically a few more hits have fallen this year and he has suffered from homre run-itis.
There has been no noticable drop in velocity like Kazmir or in breaking ball usage like Kazmir. Likewise he hasn’t suffered any injuries this year (I don’t think). His BB rate and K rate are still excellent.

Give Reagins Some Credit
Nobody complained back in December when injury-prone Vlad was replaced by WS MVP Matsui. Only now that Vlad is healthy and putting up big numbers in the most hitter-friendly park in the AL do Angel fans complain. HINDSIGHT! Now, let’s look at the positive..we let Chone “every other year is a good year” Figgins go, and now we acquire a good player and great pitcher who won’t be FA’s for a long time. The jury is still out on the decisions on letting Lackey and Oliver go (although I’m confident we won’t regret it). Yes, the Kazmir move isn’t looking good right now, but, again, remember how well Kaz pitched last September. I still think he can get back to that…maybe.
Overall, Reagins is doing a good job and deserves to be acknowledged. I especially like that he got a great pitcher who is NOT a rental. Next year, we’ll have Haren and the Rangers won’t have Lee. ‘Nuff said! And there’s still some hope for this year.

Still you have to like how we’re turning A/AA pitchers into legit pro players, even if it does hurt the depth a bit
Could be any of them
Or someone like Segura, maybe Conger (although I highly doubt it).
But you’re right this is good work.

If it is that blows
Skaggs looks like he’s going to be a 4 pitch left with a above average velocity (for a lefty)….ton of projectibility. Been looking great all year.
We don't have any top position players other than Trout
Conger and Bourjos are decent prospects, but our pitchers in the low minors are clearly the ones with higher upside
NOOO

Okay. I just had this cross my mind.
Let me start this with a prayer that this situation doesn’t play out.
Dan Haren is locked up until 2013 with the option on the last year. Anybody else see that this is our management getting an ace for when weaver leaves in a few years. Preparing to have leverage against Boras. This is what we thought we were doing with the Kazmir trade because Lackey was all but gone. Just a thought.
But I think we will lock up Weaver long term in the next two years.
"I have one word for you...Be careful."
-Jose Guillen
Ugh, that would suck
It might give us leverage though, and Weave might want to come back knowing that he has a formidable partner in Haren.
Hopefully Weaver and Haren become best bros.
I just hope Napoli doesnt get jealous haha.

thank you
they are planning to have two aces for the rest of this year and the next two. THEN they will count the rings…
I’ve had a bad feeling about Weaver remaining in an Angel uniform as I’ve watched his team basically affirm some of Lackey’s statements regarding the play behind him. I hope it doesn’t happen but I’m getting really nervous about it, I think with each blown W it is pushing him closer and closer to not even considering resigning.

worry about that when it is time to worry about that
two years from now we might all be nuked and it will be the Lincoln Angels of Nebraska
Lincoln would get nuked before LA
The primary control point for the US nuclear forces is located nearby in Omaha, and the whole area is surrounded by about a dozen active missile sites. Eastern Nebraska would get frickin’ wasted in a nuclear attack.
God, my dissertation topic is taking control of me.
San Diego would be screwed though, and me with it

by TheQuestforMerlin on Jul 25, 2010 4:32 PM PDT up reply actions
Yeah but he's one of the few with top of the rotation projection
Other than maybe Richards, I honestly don’t see our other arms at Top rotation guys
He does have top of the rotation projection
But it does rest on development in his curve and additional velocity to his fastball.
I can live with it, as we have Richards, Mesa, Bedrosian and the AA boys Reckling and Chatwood.
by TheQuestforMerlin on Jul 25, 2010 4:35 PM PDT up reply actions
I've been down on Mesa, Chatwood and Reckling b/c of their control issues
I think that is really going to hold them back
Plus Bedrosian could start, but a lot of scouts have talked about him more as a power-reliever.
True
Bedrosian will start at first. We were really high on him. And he’s 18 as well, so he will follow the Skaggs development curve.
by TheQuestforMerlin on Jul 25, 2010 4:40 PM PDT up reply actions
But I think Corbin and Skaggs are arguably the best arms right now.
If I were another club looking to poach talent, those would be the first two I would pick as well.
Perhaps, I sorta agree, I think they are safe/good picks for the D'Backs
I think they have shown the best control, Skaggs on a limited pitch/inning count though (which should be expected as he doesn’t have to go through lineups as often). Corbin has been an odd one, as he improved from the step up to A+.
However Richards and Mesa have been scouted to have the better stuff. And similar to Chatwood and Reckling need to sort out their control.
It’s a loss, but if one of the other four improve their control (probably with the exception of Reckling, whose stuff doesn’t wow everyone) in a meaningful way, their stuff would profile them as a better pitcher.
by TheQuestforMerlin on Jul 25, 2010 5:56 PM PDT up reply actions
I think there are a lot of prospects with good "stuff".
I like to see to control, diversity of arsenal, and composure — all of which those two have.
I’m optimistic about any prospect with K/9 of 9 or better, and a BB/9 under 3. Corbin and Skaggs have both delivered that this year.
Again, I think it’s a fair trade. But it’s a lot to give up, no question. Our system was really depleted before the very good 2009 draft, and early returns on the 2010 draft aren’t looking great.
It also really devoids our system of lefties other than reckling
Particularly since we already traded away Smith
the 2010 draft is looking like a train wreck.
Lindsey and Bolden were huge overdrafts. Scouts didn’t even think Lindsey had the tools to be anywhere near the 1st round. Bolden is striking out in more than half his abs.
Clarke has been switch-hitting since he was like 13 I’ve read but scouts still talk about how his hitting is poor. At least he has tools.
Bedrock’s son so far isn’t doing well, and I know it’s small sample size, but man he’s getting lit up.
Then our top draft pick hasn’t even signed. And neither has the lefty from Oregon or Oregon State who can tough 97.
VERY SMALL SAMPLE SIZE
Linsey has 83 AB
Bolden has 62 AB
Clarke has 56 AB
Bedrosian has pitched 3 innings
do you know how Grichuk did in his first 65 AB last year
.246 HR 0 2B 4 3B 2 K 22 BB 3

Then he should have pitched more aggressively.

why are you obtuse?
Emotions are natural in life unless you are a sociopath. Get over it. Life is about more than business, or are you one of those people who sees you parents as an inheritance machine and your friends as pickup trucks to borrow?
Emotions are natural.
But crying when you get traded? I don’t know about that one. I’ve moved several times to take jobs in new cities, never cried once. I cried when Nick Adenhard died. So crying when it is appropriate, I say “of course.” Crying because you were traded to a new team? Not in the same league. And in my opinion, crying in both circumstances cheapens the emotion. That’s my highly subjective take.
Rory Markas. Alex Chilton. 2010, you suck!

Disagree
My respect level for Joe Saunders just sky rocketed. The fact that he shed tears out of loyalty transcends any dollar value (surely you see the difference between him and Lackey). Saunder’s tears reminded me why I’m a baseball fan. I’m not a fan because of someone’s salary or because it is run like a business. No, I’m a fan because, in their own way, these players invest the same passion and spirit that I invest as a fan.
Also, the “moving for work” analogy doesn’t add up. I think it’s more along the lines of shedding tears after your high school graduation (or at least feeling incredibly sad and unsure as to what the future will hold once you leave your long established comfort zone). When graduating, you probably knew the same group of people for 10+ years. That was Joe. He knew these coaches, fans, players and front office for years and now he’s embarking on a new team and new league for the first time.. That’s why he’s feeling emotional.
Lackey walking to a rival felt like a smack to the face, Saunders display of loyalty has made that right.

The correct analogy is basically getting fired from an office job....
You were dismissed and replaced because of performance. On the way out though we secured you a position with a competing company. We just don’t want you working here.
But that's not why he shed tears.
He shed tears because he’ll be leaving the fanbase and players. I suppose the job analogy works if you worked side by side with the same people for several years and built an incredibly close bond with your co-workers.
Red Hudler > Rodger Lodge
by Teixeira Who? on Jul 26, 2010 5:12 PM PDT up reply actions
That's a nice way of putting it..
but I have a feeling some of those tears were related to the type of team he was leaving vs. where he was going. If he had been traded from the Pirates to the Yankees does he have the same reaction?
So wrong
To begin with, it wasn’t as if Saunders’ name had been dangled as trade bait for weeks. I think we were all startled that his name was the one in the trade, and we weren’t going to be going anywhere. He must have been stunned.
Then consider that several of the players on the team are guys he came up through the minors with (Aybar, Kendrick, Morales, etc) and you have some daily friendships which will be lost (or compromised). The guys in the clubhouse crew, the trainers, everybody connected with the team are folks Saunders has been working with his entire professional career.
It makes sense that he’d be emotional. In fact, it is right.
"I can't tell people what to think or not to think. Their perceptions are their perceptions. We just feel we've taken a step forward. At the end of the day, we have to play 162 games. Once that happens then we'll be able to evaluate the offseason moves."~Tony Reagins, on the Angels' offseason
by George Kaplan on Jul 26, 2010 3:39 AM PDT up reply actions 1 recs
That's prety cold.
Some carry the idea that loyalty is greater than $. I know…that’s foolish in professional sports. It appeared to me he did about the best he could with his ability.
I like the trade, AND salute the (apparent) fact he was emotionally affected by the trade.
He was pretty choked up...
…he couldn’t finish the sentence, “…when you’ve been playing with these guys for 8 years…you know…it’s kinda hard to say good-bye…”.
Perfectly understandable emotion.
The Angels are a fantastic organization, have enjoyed great success while Joe was with the team, and the players are a good group of guys. Now, had he been traded away from the Mariners, he’d probably have been doing cartwheels and his enthusiasm would have been off the charts.

I have liked Danny until this year.
Why do you guys think Haren’s ERA will be lower in the AL?
Don’t you think something is wrong? How many injuries has this guy had?
I'll just quote QuestofMerlin's earlier post since he explains it much better
“a career high BABIP rate and HR/FB rate. Basically a few more hits have fallen this year and he has suffered from homre run-itis.
There has been no noticable drop in velocity like Kazmir or in breaking ball usage like Kazmir. Likewise he hasn’t suffered any injuries this year (I don’t think). His BB rate and K rate are still excellent."

But Hokie Joe was awesome. He went out, did his job, didn’t complain. I’m going to miss him.
We couldn’t trade
Kazmir instead? I’ll take Joe over Kazmir any year (except for 06).
Also as long as PTBNL isn’t Conger, Bourjos, Trout, or Kohn, we’re fine. Maybe PTBNL is Wood (crossing my fingers)
They're looking to dump salary
Taking on Kaz would eliminate that. Plus Kaz is on the DL so they couldn’t trade him.
It’s already been mentioned that Trout isn’t going to be involved and I doubt Kohn is going to be a “Top prospect”
Conger and Bourjos are possibilities, but if they wanted a catcher, I don’t see why they didn’t go out and trade with the Yankees for Montero. As for Bourjos, the D-backs don’t seem to be hurting in the OF as much with Young and Upton, so i’d also doubt it’d be him
Kohn would be an awesome PTBNL
even the best relievers aren’t worth nearly as much as a solid starter or hitter, and this coming from a guy that thinks Kohn should have been on this team in May.

Haha.....love it
this is such an improvement….we go from Saunder’s mediocrity/sub-average work to above-average with Haren
WHEN are we going to know the PTBNL?
I am going to have a heart attack.
I'm not superstitious, but I'm a little stitious.
hmmm
my wife heard them say on the telecast that FROD was in the deal? Did they just flub the words?
Ugh, I want audio/video of the press conference and Joe's interview...
Years later, Clutch still needs to chill.

Checking in for the 1st time this season:
I’ve got tix to Wednesday’s game – where I presume Haren will slot into Hokie Joe’s spovt vs. Beckett. My excitement level just went up like 52%
The 1 (and only) Angels game I got to cover was a preseason game this year vs. San Diego where Joe pitched. He was a great guy to talk to and I felt bad as a fan to see him struggle this year.
I’m glad he had a quality start before taking off for Az. Via con Dios, Joe!
Welcome to the team, Danny Boy! The A on your cap will be slightly familiar – only this one don’t look like someone vomited on it and it’s got a snazzy Halo!
"And the Anaheim Angels are the Champions of Baseball!"
100% on Skaggs?
That’s what the D’backs beat writer just reported, and it’s on his Twit page… In classic twitter style: Told the ptbnl is going to be Skaggs, barring something unexpected. Angels were reluctant to include him.
Nice pickup Reagins
I like the trade for Haren, a little concerned about who the PTBNL will be. To bad the Angels couldn’t have gotten him last year (Lackey, Weaver, Santana, Haren, Kazmir) against the Yankees in the ALCS, they would have beat them and probably won the World Series.
Still need some help in the pen, Scott Downs would be nice. Not sure even with the addition of Haren that the Angels can make the playoffs but who knows what other surprises Reagins has in store this week.
Crap
Granted he’s far away, but he could have been a rotation mainstay by 22. Disappointing to lose one of the best arms in our system
If it's Skaggs, then hell yeah all the way!
Woohoo! We got Dan Haren!
Now that’s what I’m talking about!
Any time you think you have the game conquered the game will turn around and punch you right in the nose.
Mike Schmidt
Just heard....
wowwwwww, can’t wait until his first start in that new uni
shots fired at the rangers
(long term though Lee probably doesn’t sign with the Rangers)
I'm really freakin excited about this trade!!
Weaver is an ace in the making (if he’s not quite there yet), Santana is one of the best #2 starters, Piniero has been pitching well and comes from a long line of great St. Louis pitchers, and while Kaz has lost his way, I’m hoping he can return to form somewhat and at least be #4 starter quality. When you add Haren to that the Angels are gonna kick ass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was meeting up with my German buddy at my other friend's house when this broke...
He had no idea why myself and the other Angel fan that lives there jumped up screaming and yelling at the MLB Network news break. Couldn’t ask for a more perfect introduction to baseball!

finally got home...
and now I can comment!
This trade was a freaking STEAL! I don’t care who the PTBNL is, it’s not Trout, so this deal is amazing. If it’s for Tyler Skaggs, as a few preliminary reports are stating, we win. Hands down. This trade is basically Haren for Saunders and spare parts. Fantastic!
My dad worked with Dan Haren’s mom until he retired this year… She says he’s extremely excited to be staying on the West Coast, and he grew up a huge Angels fan, so he’s excited about that, too.
Reagins says he’s either starting Monday or Tuesday! This race just got really fun…
Thank you, Nick Adenhart. You will always be remembered. #34
not to be a downer
but this doesn’t mean much if we don’t start freakin scoring runs, right? if our bullpen doesn’t keep blowing up. adding another arm like Haren is great but is this for next 2-3 years or was this trade to help us now? if we can’t score runs and hold leads, then what was the point making this deal now? crossing our fingers and hoping Matsui, Abreu, and Rivera start tearing up the ball and making up for the first 4 months of the season.
btw i love the deal, i really don’t care who the PTBNL is, as long as Haren is healthy we got ourselves another potential ace.
2010 is a longshot...
but since this isn’t a rental it’s a great trade. He’ll help us for the duration of the contract. This is the ace we’ve been looking for since Colon.
Haren in, bullpen next
Dan Haren is now an Angel and that is great! Weaver and Haren at top of rotation is fantastic! Haren said he is happy to stay on West Coast especially because he grew up 20 minutes away. Bullpen should be addressed next and maybe a stick by deadline. Reagins said they are not completely done. So we wil wait and see.
WOW
My favorite pitcher goes to my least favorite team. Congrats to you guys. Bought low on an amazing pitcher. DBacks GM got swindled on this trade badly.
WTF GEREN?!?!?!
Yikes, rough time for you, huh?
Your favorite baseball team blows. Your favorite basketball team blows. Your favorite football team blows.

You all must read the thread on LSB about the trade.
Basically, one gets the see the light bulb begin to glow, ever so dimly, above the heads of the participants as they realize:
° The Yankees weren’t in on Haren because they have their sights set of bidding for Lee in the offseason
° It is highly unlikely that the Rangers will be able to outbid the Yankees for Lee (or anyone else)
° That means the team gave up Smoak for a rental of Lee and an all-in attempt to get to the WS in 2010
° And unlike Lee, Haren isn’t a rental and he’ll be atop the rotation with Weaver in 2011 as well, even as Lee gets fitted for pinstripes
In between are the random notes of various posters whistling past the graveyard, convincing themselves that this doesn’t change anything (as if parting out Saunders for Haren in and of itself didn’t bode for an improved outcome for the Angels’ 2010 season).
It is great hilarity. Do yourself a favor and spend a few minutes scrolling through the thread.
"I can't tell people what to think or not to think. Their perceptions are their perceptions. We just feel we've taken a step forward. At the end of the day, we have to play 162 games. Once that happens then we'll be able to evaluate the offseason moves."~Tony Reagins, on the Angels' offseason
Humorous indeed
I can’t figure why the Wyoranger dude says he checked our site and there was nothing going on
By my count, this puts next year's payroll around $130 mil plus change
Meaning we may be looking to shed salary this offseason instead of adding it. There are no real remaining holes on next year’s club – this deal takes care of that – but it doesn’t leave room for luxuries (read: Crawford).
What if Rivera and/or Abreu get traded for mid-prospects?
How much salary does that take off the books? Not that I ncessarily want to see either of them gone.
Light up that halo! RIP, Nick.
Not that much for Rivera
Abreu for 2011 is $9M (plus $1M buyout for 2012), Rivera is $5.25M.
Honestly, I think Rivera would prefer to be paid as much as folks seem to believe is is being paid.
That said, my guess at this point is the team has decided to roll with Bourjos in 2011 instead of Crawford. Dan Haren just got the money which would otherwise have been spent on a FA ($41M over next three seasons if the option is picked up).

Yeah, I thought I remembered Rivera had a pretty team-friendly deal.
Just didn’t know HOW team-friendly. Also, isn’t Haren’s deal pretty team-friendly, too?
I wouldn’t necessarily want to see Abreu go either…
Light up that halo! RIP, Nick.
He's owed around 4million this year
12.75 for 11 and 12 with a 15.5 team option for 13 with a 3.5 buyout
I think the most likely guy to go is Mike Napoli
But not this offseason, and not until we’re sure that Conger still has a useable shoulder.
Yeah, but if Napoli goes there's really not THAT much money off the books, is there?
Light up that halo! RIP, Nick.

Did he ever get fired for this?
I can’t go to enough games anymore to know, and not sure if he is around still…

And on a serious note, I can't yet read all the posts on this thread but do you think...
…that regardless of the games behind (tonight sucked), with this trade does it signal the Angels will NEVER be sellers this year or throw in the towel or do you think that it could still be possible, and this is mostly for 2011?
And hopefully a big OF signing in the offseason as well?
they have to know that their chances are slim this year
with Haren, they set themselves up for an epic run at the playoffs this year, but they set themselves up more for 2011, when the Rangers won’t have Cliff Lee and we’ll have Kendry Morales back.
Look out.
Thank you, Nick Adenhart. You will always be remembered. #34

I just hope Haren doesn't become a Kazmiss
But I know I’m just a gunshy fan right now…
Yeah, scary thought
IF we have another Kaz on our hands, that could cost Ninja his job. That would be close to 25 mill on two guys pitching below league average

As the good ship Halo gets mired in the maelstrom of medicrity known as the current season
we have 3 things to give us optimism:
1. Haren
2. Kowbell will return
3. We have Trout
Plus you can bet your sweet ass we will be serious bidders for one of Lee, Crawford, or Werth(if not more)
5. Bourjos
I took your stash.
I'd like crawford, but not at the max deal he'll be looking for
It’d be great to have speed at the top of the order again, but i’m afraid how much he’ll end up costing.
Admittedly, the thought of having Crawford in left, Torii in Center/Right and Bourjos in Right/Center is exciting. There wouldn’t be a fly ball that wouldn’t be caught.
Pass on Werth, we have enough OF’s for now.

Thanks Joe!
I never once thought you gave anything less than your best. You’re a great competitor and I know that the Dbacks fans will grow to appreciate your tenacity.
P and H
All we need now is a reliever and hitter. Westbrook or a Marlins pitcher?
Haren
Will compliment Weaver very nicely at the top of that rotation. Throw in Santana and Pineiro, this looks pretty dang good…. and then there’s Kazmir….
FWIW
Keith Law loves the trade for the Angels.
And he mentions other executives he spoke with who also liked the Angels side of it as well.
Defending maligned chants since 2009
I like the trade because we needed something to shake things up...
…but if Law likes it, that worries me.
Crap.
Why does that worry you?
I love Law. And I’m pretty sure he didn’t like the Kazmir trade for the Angels, so he’s got a good track record with these things.
Defending maligned chants since 2009
I'm joking.
Usually, critics never seem to approve of most things the Angels do, so when they actually think it’s something positive…I get worried :P
How did the D'backs not get Meza or Richards.
they must have really fallen in love with Skaggs.
They want power. We want respect...
Again from Law
Apparently the D-backs REALLY wanted to take Skaggs in the 2009 draft and were hoping he fell to them after the first round. And now that he’s been good in his limited minor league career, it was a no brainer for them. In fact, it’s probably their love of Skaggs that got this deal done.
Defending maligned chants since 2009
You know, Skaggs is really, really good
I don’t think it’s a question of Arizona overvaluing him. I was playing around with new rankings last week and he fell third, fourth, or fifth on every pass. Abe Flores talked about him in a totally different tone than he did with the other guys.
Also – seeing him live, on a game when he was on… well, he made a lot of 22 and 23 year olds look foolish. He was untouchable. If all goes well he’ll have 4 average to above average pitches.
Yeah
My wife hated the trade, she loves Saundo. I also liked Saundo a lot but this is not only an upgrade but a loud and clear message that the Angels are not conceding the season to Texas. Heck, we beat the Bosox two out of three and sweep Texas next weekend and we are right back in it. Go Angels!!!
Xavier Calvera
Better chance of sweeping Boston than Texas, imho.
But, I like your enthusiasm. Let’s do this! GO HALOS!
I love this team.

Well, no doubt there will be some self-imposed and external pressure....
…on Haren tonight, but I think there will be even more on the offense.
They HAVE to provide some run support since they failed in 3 of 4 games in what was the most important series to date this year.
They can’t keep failing. I can’t even point at Oakland and make fun anymore as they might pass us. Thank gawd for Seattle.
