Angels Spot Rangers 7 Games with 61 Left
Final Score in Arlington: Rangers 6, Angels 4 ... The Angels lousiest starting pitcher, Trevor Bell, could not do much against the Rangers homegrown best Tommy Hunter. The Angels lost two games in the standings over the weekend and have 10 games remaining with the Rangers this season.
The acquisition of Dan Haren in exchange for Joe Saunders and some minor leaguers overshadowed the game, but Dan will have to win two contests for his new club to make up for that distraction. three of the Angels 4 runs came from homeruns, so it is not a question of power for this club, it is leadoff guys Erick Aybar and 2-holer Maicer Izturis not being on base when the bomb is dropped.

Juan's lack of athleticisim is only matched by his lack of enthusiasm.
He’s possibly the biggest turd in MLB.

Why the hell
is Mathis starting and Howie starting at 1st? I still say its Haren’t fault for not running to the airport to spot start.
Napoli pissed off Scioscia again?
there’s really no good reason for that.

oh Napoli
cant you see you pissing off Sosh=Mathis starting=losing games, so Naps pissing off Sosh=Halos losing games
maybe he was busy getting laid...
we can only hope.
seriously, there is no reason Napoli should be seeing bench time, save for a deathly sickness or an unfortunate mime freak-accident.

I have a feeling Rivera will not play for the Halos next year
and I think the team has finally realized how crappy Abreu is at fielding too.
I took your stash.
Rivera , Abreu , Matsui you can kiss them goodbye after this year .....
Shields , Bell , FRod 2 . Did I miss somebody ?
yeah we should definitely get rid of our only
competent relief pitcher. i say resign him at about half of what we are giving him.
"I have one word for you...Be careful."
-Jose Guillen
He would never agree to that
and sure he has been good recently, but it’s only a matter of time before he reverts back to Bad Fuentes.
I took your stash.
2008 was the last time shields was competent if my memory serves me correct.
look at fuentes’ numbers in his career, including the last two years. that why i call him competent. because he has been.
results come before hideous throwing motions in my book.
"I have one word for you...Be careful."
-Jose Guillen
what numbers?
his save ratio? That’s been pretty up as he’s had more chances then most closers have saves.
k/9, WHIP (outside of last season), K/BB ratio
I’m not saying the guy is anywhere near as good as percy or Krod were. But he is nowhere near as bad as everyone makes him out to be. Considering how atrocious our bullpen has been, fuentes closing is the least of our bullpen problems. he is ridiculously overpaid (no argument); but he gets the job done more often than not.
and rodney is unbearable. i’m sure he’d be better as a closer; but any pitcher that walks as many people as he strikes out is not someone i want to count on in the clutch.
"I have one word for you...Be careful."
-Jose Guillen
Big homestand, need wins!!
we need to go 5-1 against redsox and rangers to make up some ground. not easy but can be done and needs to be done or we’re possibly done! Haren looks like he will pitch twice this week.
Can we just blame our bulpen's ability to pitch with 2 outs?
That gets my vote.

Agreed.
I’ve been saying our bullpen is our biggest issue since the start of 09.

Napoli and Rivera.....
could be gone shortly. i think they are trying hard to get these 2 guys out by deadline. they are still monitoring Derek lee he would probably be for just this year. I would prefer some bully help because it’s been bad they can’t hold games.
we can’t trade Naps
then we’ll have to deal with Mathis catching everyday. Hell no.

Napoli ........
isn’t really catching too much now and i think u can get something for him right now. Plus Sciossia doesn’t want to deal with his whining anymore. Mathis hasn’t been great since returning from injury but they are going with him for now. Wilson is staying for a while.

Raadad seems to think our efforts to find a place to watch the game
fits the definition.
We don’t have a tv at the cabin, and the guy who owns the bar has been great about us taking over one of the televisions in his bar for the last three summers, even during the World Cup. The only problem is that he moved the restaurant halfway around the lake, and we used to be able to walk to it. Good way to walk off dinner, but lots of bears in the canyon this summer so it’s probably better that we have to drive around the lake to see a game.
THIS… IS… ANAHEIM!!
and that "Raaddad" guy knows his shit, man
I’m always ruining parties, dinners, family events running off in search of a TV to watch epic Halo events like today’s game . . .
Reminds me of Woody Allen in Crimes and Misdemeanors slinking off into the adjacent bedroom to a party to watch the Knicks (now there’s a hopeless diversion . . .)
I am still in awe of the man who brought his little transistor radio to church when I was a little girl.
This must have been 58 or 59 and the World Series was on. After church my dad commented on his hearing aid, and realized even as he said it that it was the little earpiece for the radio, identical to the ones we all had.
Mom said she’d kill Dad if he ever tried that but the man’s wife pointed out that it was the only way to get him to come to church that morning.
THIS… IS… ANAHEIM!!
I'm not sure I'm willing to exclude people from the definition, though.
The only thing that annoys me is a “fan” of any team who doesn’t know what he (or she) is talking about.
THIS… IS… ANAHEIM!!
We went to a convention in Tempe last summer.
At lunch one of the days we walked from the hotel in search of a sports bar, found one a block away, and got them to turn on the Angels/Yankees game. The hostess said something about how badly the Yankees were doing and we just gaped at her because they were leading the East by a bunch and just a couple of games back of the Angels.
THIS… IS… ANAHEIM!!
Much as I loved Reverend Bill
I wasn’t much interested in seeing it, and my kids must have been either too old or too young when the movie came out.
THIS… IS… ANAHEIM!!
You didn't miss anything
There are some truly awful movies that possess a certain charm only when viewed late at night in a college dorm room while under the influence of copious amounts of alcohol & various other banned substances. This grade Z flick was way beyond even that.
All I need are some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and I'm fine.

I don't know about 2010 but...
whatever happens this season front office is getting a head start for next year. Texas might be smiling right now but they are about to wake up a sleeping giant in the Angels front office.
exactly
apparently, even Keith effing Law, who hates us and everything SoCal, is saying that we’re set up beautifully for 2011.

Peter Bourjos......
is tearing it up with Bees now batting .316 with 11 homers as leadoff hitter. He should be up soon. Don’t think Rivera has much time left.
Who would we trade him to? Who would want him?

Here's hoping Matt Palmer is ready to go in the 5-spot next time
Can’t be much worse than Bell and Kaz right now, though . . .well . . .
he might be . . .
So stick with Bell
until Kaz returns???
Make another trade?
Let Shields start for old time sake? (back when he was a spot starter)
Sigh...
We don’t have anyone stretched out enough in the pen to take over the 5th spot. But I don’t think we have to worry about it for awhile as this coming Thursday is an off day and Monday (8/2) is a travel day.
I say TBD till Soth absolutely has to send someone out there
Alternate red Angel jerseys FTW!!
I know there is no POTG, but if there was
I’d give it to Dadgum Mathis for taking that tackle at the plate
and comin up with ball in hand like it was nothin.’
Dude’s got some serious balls
That was great.
We heard it in the car, and saw the tail end of the game at a sports bar in Lake Arrowhead. They replayed that from several angles. Just a great play.
THIS… IS… ANAHEIM!!
A true dedicated halo fan
huntin’ down sports bars to see the team
Too bad you couldn’t wake them enough for a VERY rare come-from-behind victory!
Remember those, btw?
Ya know, like last year, when they would actually come back to win some games with the Rally Monkey in full rally mode . . .
We were thinking that.
We were listening on the radio until the 7th inning, and then we had to take the controller away from the bar maid because she was clueless and couldn’t locate the game.
THIS… IS… ANAHEIM!!
How you guys can blame Bell for being what he is.........is beyond me.

Haren should ......
start Monday. because then he can face Texas this weekend, that would make most sense.
i would skip 5th starter that way u would have Haren and Weaver in 4 games this week.
So I'm sitting here watching a replay of Angels Insider
and I’ve come to a conclusion that one of the reasons why Hideki is not focusing all that great in a game is bcuz…all his damn media following him from Japan..have u seen it? They won’t leave the dude alone.
by maze88 on Jul 25, 2010 10:21 PM PDT via mobile reply actions
He had way more media coverage in New York; he did just fine there.
He’s just too old and has lost it. End of story, IMO

For swinging at the first pitch of the game. . .
. . . and flying out. Uh, Aybar, dude, you don’t have that much power. You are the leadoff hitter. Take some pitches for Krikees sake, and quit trying to hit home runs.
he claims his success comes from swinging at every strike he sees

That mentality worked when he was hitting ninth, not now.
Still, he is young and will eventually develop more plate discipline. Figgy eventually did. Or am I way off base?

Actually, sicne his dismal start
from actually trying to be a leadoff hitter he went back to the aggressive approach and his Avg. is now up .280 so it’s working. But in that situation you need to see soe pitches.

Where's Howie on the BotG list?
He makes that play in the first, Vlad’s K is the third out, it’s 0-0 instead of 2-0 after one.
Completely different ball game.
