Weaver All-Star Snub
This is my first Fan Post, so I'm not used to this. But today's All-Star Selection Show has taken me to new levels of hatred for the Four Letter Network, Joe Girardi and all of the Yankees, and just Major League Baseball in general.
For Jered Weaver (8-3, 2.82 ERA, 124 K) to get snubbed from this team, in his home ball park, is simply ludicrous. First problem, he did not get voted on by the player vote, which is understandable because of when they vote and the fact that no one west of the Mississippi can watch most of our games. Second problem and, by far, the biggest problem is that Joe F'ing Girardi did not select Weaver to represent his team. He selected the following:
P Trevor Cahill- A's (8-2, 2.74 ERA, 56 K)
P Joakim Soria- Royals (20/22 SV, 2.56 ERA)
P Fausto Carmona- Indians (7-6, 3.68 ERA, 54 K)
P C.C. Sabathia- Yankees (10-3, 3.33 ERA, 93 K)
P Matt Thorton- White Sox (4/6 SV, 2.94 ERA, 47 K in 33.2 IP)
Utility (as a 2B) Ty Wiggington- Orioles (.251, 30 RS, 14 HR, 42 RBI, .337 OBP, .453 SLG)
3B- Alex Rodriguez- Yankees (.278, 43 RS, 12 HR, 61 RBI, .351 OBP, .491 SLG)
So Joe Girardi picked TWO of his own players that were marginally deserving when he already had FOUR representatives. Even overlooking the fact that he snubbed Alex Rios and Shin Soo-Choo from their teams for less deserving players, Girardi has again managed to show that East Coast bias controls most of baseball. I woke up thinking that I could make a slight argument for Howie to be our 3rd representative; but instead was delivered with one of the ALL TIME WORST SNUBS. I am genuinely sickened and might boycott the All Star Game at our own stadium. Shameful day for baseball, depressing day for the Angels.

MLB is a joke
Weaver, Rios, Liriano, Votto, Willingham, Zimmerman all get snubbed yet Omar Infante and Fausto Carmona make the team
Torii Hunter has some Brain Movage
Mind boggling.
How to you lead the league in K’s have an ERA under 3 and get snubbed and by the way never throwing the ball over 93! Absolutely disgusting. I hope the AL loses due to the shitty pitching. But I hope Torii goes yard and then doesn’t give Girardi a high five. Oh and why the hell isn’t Kendrick on the final pick ballot!

logically
it doesn’t make sense. But compared to the other 2B in the AL he is top 3 if pedroia is hurt. Kinsler shouldn’t be there for playing half the year and wiggington isn’t actually a second baseman.

Omar Infante?
Are you shittin me? I haven’t looked at the NL roster. I know you have to represent all 30 teams but if you have to get a Braves infielder Glaus and Prado should be ahead of him. Especially with him being their backup.

One of 5 Braves
Prado is starting, McCann and Hudson are on the team, Heyward selected but is injured.
And Charlie Manuel picks a Braves backup over Ryan Zimmerman. He must be hoping the game goes 25 innings, and he’ll leave Prado and Infante out there till the very end in hopes of wearing them down.
You lose Chase Utley, you’ve got to have some plan to beat the team ahead of you.

Some of those guys got picked...
because each team has to have one representative.
But yeah I completely agree with you, even if he’s not going to be able to pitch, he should still get a selection.
This is really unacceptable. We have a great pitcher who was going to give up his slot anyway and he can’t get recognition in his own park? Someone really screwed up here.
I’m pretty pissed right now. I figured Weaver was a sure thing. I thought Napoli should have gotten consideration as well.

That angered me too
Buck rhymes with suck, and that is no coincidence. He’s as bad a defensive catcher as Napoli. His only asset is some power, but he does not get on base as well as Napoli. Perfect opportunity to give another spot to the hosting team, and they blew it.
The 4th place Blue Jays have 3 guys on the roster and the 2nd place Angels get one. Makes no sense. This whole Allstar selection process is a big FU to the Angels.

By my estimation Weaver would be about 5th in the AL
But they selected 8 SPs, so he should be there. Joe might argue that the East has the toughest competition so there stats won’t be as good, but this logic fails because there’s no Tampa Bay Pitcher (neither Jeff Niemann nor David Price, both of which have pitched better than C. C. Sabathia).
And the halo shines tonight
Wow, really?
He probably deserved it last year; he definitely deserved it this year. That’s messed up.
No Tim Wakefield deserved it. I mean no angel deserves to be an all-star but if its a red sox yipee kay eh

or as one of the players who could/should have made it.
Of course Strasburg being left off gets a headline.

they don’t have to deal with the stress and Weaver wont have to waste a couple innings….
Besides all of this Weaver pitches on Sunday anyways. Not like he would of pitched in the ASG anyways

Agreed which is all the more reason to select him...
he’ll get replaced on the roster anyway. So why not just pick him so he gets credit in front of his home fans and then give his spot to someone else?

You guys should have had Weaver in for sure
but if it is only 1 of the 2 guys you have that have All Star numbers, i have to think Weaver should have been the one to go, the guy is one of the best pitchers in the AL this year, Torii is well down the list when it comes to Out Fielders. and the AL is going to need pitching to have a chance at winning it this year with the strong NL pitching

This is just pure bullshit. The damn game is in our HOME BALLPARK, yet we still get absolutely NO respect what-so-ever. Seriously? Somehow our team has fallen off so badly that we’ve become one of those teams that only has 1 representative? FUCK this game. I’ll watch the Futures game and possibly the Celebrity Softball game. I'm glad I sold my tickets now
I saw noted somewhere that these are partial rosters. Final ones will be announced Thursday. Does that just mean the final vote or can more players be added?
There’s also the likelihood that a spot or two opens up due to injury, etc. Still, Weaver shouldn’t be forced to hope for that.
I believe I’ll be bringing a strongly worded sign to the HR Derby.

I look at it his way
I was gonna sell either HR Derby or ASG. ASG is worth more. I’ve seen a baseball game before. I was kinda bummed I wouldn’t get to see Weaver pitch in it, but now I guess I’ve got nothing to be mad about. I made back several hundred bucks so someone else can watch 25 different players play 2-3 innings each.
At least the HR Derby is unique and the players are in that to win. To each his own though.

Weaver is greater than Sabathia, Phil Hughes, David Price, and Clay Buchholz
Yet another example of why the All-Star selection process is deeply flawed and is pretty much a farce.
Weaver has been one of the best pitchers in baseball this year. The other 4 only get in over Weaver due to a combination of having more Wins and playing on the East Coast. I didn’t even bother discussing Cahill or the bullpen pitchers since each team needs a representative. Of course Liriano gets screwed too. If only the bullpen didn’t blow so many of Weaver’s games and the Angels had a good offense…..
Bobby Grich should be in the HOF!
Clay Buchholz is about to go on the DL
so Weaver gets in

Weaver is easily one of the best pitchers in the majors. He leads the majors in strikeouts, low WHIP, ERA under 3, would be 12-3 if not for the Arson Squad.
Girardi sucks
So once again, for the third consecutive time, the Angels will host an all star game and have not one single player representing them on the field
And for the second consecutive year generally, no Angel will actually play in the game.
Light up that halo! RIP, Nick.

While this totally is crap...
…and that goes without saying, the biggest sin is really the lack of power and strength of the Angel team.
They have not really done anything this season to grab anyone’s attention and few if anyone besides Angel fans woke up to wonder “Which Angels made it??” because we simply have not had that kind of team this year.
If they were frontrunners, it definitely makes the cases easier…
But yes, this is a crime and I don’t think many non-Angel fans could argue with the numbers…
And while I don't know if there will be a strong enough Angel fan presence...
…to hear it clearly, but everyone should boo when the AL starter takes the mound.
I think the commentators would be smart enough to pick up on the message being sent…
Well if this doesn't piss off and motivate the Angels
nothing will

Look the all-star game is a joke
I don’t watch it, it is stupid popularity contest. The AL is always over represented by the Yankees and Red Sox and I use it to take 3-4 days off from baseball (mostly I just wait for it to be done so I can get back to baseball)
From MLB Player Representative Angel Joe Saunders
Joe Saunders said current All-Star process “is going to change.” Players don’t like WS home-field hinging on game, as long as there are roster restrictions like having every team represented. If the best players can’t be there, then the game shouldn’t mean anything. From OCR’s Dan Woike http://twitter.com/OCR_DanWoike

Guys, you are 100% right to be pissed about the Weaver Snub but..
I would bet money that Girardi already had the Buccholz injury in mind, just gave him the selection he deserved. If Weaver was put on the 5 player vote, than I would tee off on Girardi, but he’s not, so Weaver will be there. Im not a Girardi guy, so dont hate. There are a ton of bad snubs in both leagues, Infante makes it but Votto doesnt? Terrible.
Not buying it
Then why not pick Shoo to give him the honor HE deserves, and replace him with Carmona? For Weaver to be having the type of year he is having, with already a pretty decent career under his belt, and not make the team for the first time is down right absurd. He is clearly the best player on the team this year, and as many have said here already, WE’RE HOSTING THE GOD DAMN THING!
I don’t think he put that much thought into his picks at all. He looked for the “name” player on the teams he didn’t give a shit about.
