Could Arte ever write an open letter to one of our homegrown "superstars" and call him out?
This Open Letter to Lebron was just released and written by Dan Gilbert, majority owner of the Cavaliers. I expected some of this type of reaction of course, but NEVER from an owner.
I'm torn between the emotional side of me that says "DAMN RIGHT!" and that my owner will do not only whatever it takes to win but also specifically call out the player.
Then the other side of me says that I want my management to make a commitment to win at all costs but stay classy. I'm not saying this is not classy, but I do think it might be viewed by some as going down to Lebron's level now...
Then again, Lebron brought this upon himself by asking for a 1-hour special (like 30 mins was not enough?) to rub it in their faces instead of just announcing his decision.
Could you ever see Arte writing a letter like this? Of course we'd need a homegrown superstar and Weaver has the chance to get there one day. When (if?) he leaves the Angels, do you think Arte would ever speak out about a player they genuinely tried to do everything they could to keep?
P.S. I dig this letter, only because of the parade Lebron put on. If he just decided to switch teams with no fanfare (albeit mostly media created), then that is his right. I think Weaver will face that tough decision but I don't blame him if he makes a switch (and probably heads out East).
