Sherman: Lee to Rangers is a done deal

Joel Sherman is reporting on twitter (Joelsherman1) that Cliff lee and Mark Lowe have been dealt to the Mariners for Smoak and 3 other prospects. If this is true, then (gulp) I firmly believe it is time for the Angels to become sellers. The team is old and divesting itself of some payroll might be a good call at this point. This is a strong move by Rangers. I tip my cap to their front office.

Update: Rosenthal has confirmed this. The Rangers are only picking up 1.5MM of Lee's remaining 4MM.

Well, if true...

…I can’t hate. They are playing well, and the division is theirs for the taking.

It would be what I’d want the Angels to do if we were in the same position. The problem is I’m more worried about what it means for us in the division for years to come if they can keep him, develop their arms…and with that offense?

Well, can’t be on top forever.

But then again, we have Reagins… I have hope. ((cough))

The Rangers are not going to keep them.

If you bought a house, most people wouldn’t say, lets dump another couple 100,000 dollars to fix this puppy up. Cliff Lee is going to demand a BIG Pay day at the end of this season. Cleveland knew it, Phillies knew it, Seattle knew it. Texas will NOT be able to afford Lee at the end of this year.

Lee will be playing in the North East next year.
