stRangers steal another page out of Arte Moreno Handbook to New Baseball Club Ownership
The new owners of the Texas Rangers are already making it cheaper to enjoy the games.
The group led by Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan and sports attorney Chuck Greenberg announced lower prices for concessions, parking and merchandise effective Friday — one day after Major League Baseball formally approved a sale that pulled the AL West-leading team out of bankruptcy.
The changes at Rangers Ballpark were made in time for a weekend series against the Boston Red Sox. The price reductions for hot dogs, soda, beer and bottled water range from 50 cents to a dollar.
Greenberg says the lower prices were one way of showing appreciation to fans for their loyalty and support.
As if stealing numerous players and the Angels RED JERSEYS wasn't enough:
Don't misunderstand me, I believe ballpark fare (and generally everything to do with professional sports) is grossly overpriced so this is a WIN for sports fans in general. Price reductions are good for the fans...and a fabulous PR move by the new ownership. I won't even try to pretend that Arte thought of this move or was the first to do so. Never fear Ranger fans, the prices will creep back up probably as soon as next season.
I am rapidly growing tired of the stRangers. Is this sour grapes? I admit to being frustrated this season with watching an under-performing group of overpaid and over-hyped Angels players (with mild apologies to Weaver, Haren, and Pineiro). The Yankees visit Arlington for a "big mid-August showdown between division leaders" and the Yankees serve up Burnett (4.87 era), Vasquez (4.90 era), and half their starting lineup for game 1? Good grief Girardi. Was that Selilg on the other line?
I miss Vlad and fully understand why the Angels let him go. O'Day miscalculation or bad luck...whatever. Oliver? Reagins, what were you smoking? Now Benjie Molina too? Ok, I can live with all this. The straw that breaks this camel's back is the RED JERSEYS! Several times this season I have tried to watch either Angels vs Texas games or watch both games simultaneously (2 days ago vs Yanks on mlb.tv for example) and experienced genuine moments of confusion over which team I am rooting for because the Rangers are wearing Angels red uniforms. Enough already.
A late season fade of epic proportions by the Rangers would do this sports fan's soul good. I realize the Angels have grown to be disliked by many other team's fans and that is to be expected with a successful franchise when it is at the expense of other less fortunate franchises. Mimickry is supposed to be ultimate flattery right? What next Ranger ownership? "Break out the red week at the ballpark in Arlington?" Hmm, that sounds familiar.
I'll say it one more time because it sounds so good, "A late season fade of epic proportions by the Rangers would do this sports fan's soul good."

Doesn’t say anything about the Rangers having solid Red jerseys. Those are a recent addition.

I was mostly referring to the red topped jerseys...
…though that pic of (is that Will Clark?) sure looks like a current era Angels uniform. When you are watching the game and you see …ange…s on the uniform it can be difficult to discern which team is which. When the Rangers wore the red tops against us…bahhhh
This is the earliest I could find the use of our all red type jersey
and HERE.
we talked about this before when we last visited Arlington, and how they always wear or red when we come to town.
I generally dislike how all teams keep trying to keep things fresh with the unis.
This is what happens when a team doesn’t have a true identity. The Red Sox and Yankees know damn well who they are, and it’s disgusting. The Angels (back when we were in a constant state of rebuilding) kept toying with different color schemes and logos. Once we finally figured out who we were, we settled on a jersey, logo and color and that hasn’t changed.
The Mariners are constantly tweeking their unis little by little and could never settle on anything. The Blue Jays can’t decide if they are futuristic or retro. The Rangers can’t decide if their blue and grey, red and blue, blue and white, red and white, grey and white or just plain stupid. The A’s pretty much abandoned the elephant and yellow and are trying to look halfway normal with just green on white/grey.
We betrayed Vlad, the greatest Angel. Epic fail.

I've seen the Sox wearing a red jersey too...not very often, but I've seen it
I thought it made them look like big fat tomatos. There red was a bit brighter to my eye.
I think both sides know that the Rangers are ripping off the Angels
The fact that they wore the red tops every game of that pivotal 4 game series in Arlington wasn’t lost on anyone. But the Rangers don’t care.
Actually, the Angels change logos and schemes as much as any team does. How can you not notice that?

And, yes, the Rangers came out with the red jersey’s in 1994 when they moved into the new stadium. The Angels followed us.

It’s not hard to count how many logo/color scheme changes Los Anaheim has made compared to Texas.
This thread has been a complete failure.

They have been trying hard
to steal the Angel’s thunder. A bunch of copycats, to hell with them!

I agree with this post 100%
Whether or not the Rangers ever wore red before, it does seem to me that their recent move to the red jerseys has been done with an eye towards the Angels.
A late season fade of epic proportions by the Rangers would do this sports fan’s soul good, too.
It was all about what the fans wanted.
Baseball is a game full of supersticions, and the last time Texas made any noise in the division was when they were wearing the red uniforms in the 90’s.
Let me guess….next you’re going to say that the Rangers copied the ballpark nachos from you.

No, actually I was going to say that I thought baseball was game full of superstitions,
not supersticions.
The Rangers can wear whatever the hell they want. Now that they are playing like the Angels were, they might as dress like them, too.
What next Ranger ownership? "Break out the red week at the ballpark in Arlington?"
Actually, living in Texas, I hear their promotions and unfortunately during that 4 game series against us they advertised it as “Red out the ballpark week”…so yes they have gone to far.

Prices are just prices
Fan loyalty my ass, this is merely a supply-push strategy for increasing revenue. The franchise is financially under-performing quite horrifically when you consider that they have a 6.5-million person media market all to themselves in a part of the country where amateur baseball is incredibly popular. Texas is averaging less than 30,000 fans per game, putting them 15th overall in MLB. The idea is to get people in the ballpark while the Rangers are winning and hope they come back next year. The key, though, is to keep winning.
