What Life Is Really Like In The Minor Leagues
This extensive article chronicles the lives of minor league players and the often grim realities they face trying to fulfill their dream to be major league baseball players. The article covers every aspect of the tough life in the minor leagues.
It is the flip side of the enthusiastic and often glamorous reporting fed to us on sports blogs of star players with large signing bonuses and the brightness of touted prospects with promising futures.

Just finished reading the article.
I loved every bit of it. Really insightful. This is the kind of stuff I like learning about- the side of baseball that I would never otherwise know. Thanks for the link.
I meant the OTHER Howard!
If you liked/appreciated reading this,
check out Dirk Hayhurst’s “The Bullpen Gospels.” Guy who came up with the Padres (now with the Jays) figures that he’s never going to make a living from baseball, so he might as well write about life in the minors. Kind of the opposite end of the sensationalist spectrum from “Odd Man Out,” I think, though I’ve never read the latter.
Hayhurst’s book occasionally got a little preachy for my tastes (“Gospels” is in its name), but it was a great read.
Going to a Rays’ rookie-league game in the next week. :)
Nope, he was up earlier this year
but then had to have shoulder (I think?) surgery. Currently rehabbing.
