I went to college in the early '80s, during the height of the "No Nukes" hysteria.

Mathis would not be starting for any other team
he would be down in the minors…what in the blue shit is that guy doing to Soth behind the scenes to get continuous starts? And don’t say it’s like Wood and trying to give the clown a new chance, Mattress has been the primary catcher all season (outside of his DL time) and has failed all season.
Maybe Soth should take this time to experiment with his coaching style and say, oh I don’t know, use the same catcher multiple games in a row? Nah you know what, letting a batter get consistency is a terrible idea, my mistake!

In hindsight, the worst thing that could have happened to this team was for them to have that great run right after Kendry went down. The FO saw that run and thought, maybe we can manage without a legit power threat.

When certain players have shown they are consistently failing, and it isn’t just a slump, it is the coach’s responsibility to adjust so your team can win. Soth has clearly shown this season that his “same old thing” routine is not about instilling confidence, but more about him being lazy and possibly scared of hurting the feelings of these under-performing millionaires.
The only thing he has shown he can change is who the starting catcher is every night, and the entire batting order. If you look at coaches who have won championships (Torre comes to mind this year), you’ll see they aren’t afraid to push down an under-performer in the lineup, bench a guy, etc.
Soth has shown he is unwilling to do that to veterans and players he likes (i.e. Mathis, you can’t tell me he should be a starting catcher).
