Angels 2010 Minor League Season:Success Or Failure?
This has been a rebuilding year for the Angels. We have seen the system thin due to trades such as the Mark Teixeira trade, Scott Kazmir trade, and Dan haren trade. This has been a breakout year for Mike Trout who is now considered a top three prospect. Tyler Chatwood has had a nice season, then their are players like Jean Segura
and Garrett richards who have seen their stocks stay the same. Peter Bourjos is now with the big club and so are Michael Kohn and Jordan Walden so that will thin the system. It's hard to tell right now if this season has been a success or failure, but due to the major breakout year from Mike Trout it looks like it's closer to success than failure. we will know for sure what it is in a couple of years.

Trades did not thin the system
Free Agent signings, draft choices who did not sign, and draft choices who did not make the grade have had more of an impact than trades.
What about the Kazmir trade? Sean Rodriguez and Alex Torres both look like they’re going to have good careers.

Trades certainly did thin the system.
All the things you list above thinned the system as well, but trades plucked some of our best chips away.
Alex Torres, Pat Corbin, Tyler Skaggs and Will Smith all in the last twelve months. That’s a lot of good left-handed pitching to give up, even before getting into debates about the relative merits of Sean Rodriguez and Sean O’Sullivan.
Four very promising lefties, all between high-A and AAA, all gone by trades. That’s significant impact.
Is there such thing as a failure year in the minor leagues?
I don’t think so, I think it’s been a normal year. Guys progress and breakout (Trout, Moore, Kohn, Chatwood, Amarista, Segura) some guys stay about the same (Trumbo, Conger, Walden, Grichuk, Martinez, Richards, Jacobo) and some guys get knocked down a peg or two (Reckling, Mount, Lopez, Ramirez).

Yes, No
It seems we have some good prospects, but it has been sucky in terms of minor leaguers graduating, which ultimately it is all about.
You mean McFatty and Aldridge weren't success stories?

We have had some overhyped prospects.
(Brandon Wood, Howie Kendrick, so far Peter Bourjos), but we have also had some good ones such as Jered Weaver, Kendry Morales, Ervin Santana.
Pete's offense will develop.
I like him. He has tools, which can’t be taught, and he has a sense of focus about him. He was born fast, but has seemed to learn a lot of the habits and practices that make a good CF. He looks studious…. even as he fails to hit, like he’s gonna keep sucking in info and experience until he can make contact. He probably looked the same when he had a bit of a down turn on the Bees, then it clicked and he ripped it up.
He could be a real nice .280-300 hitter with doubles and triple up the yin yang and maybe even 10-12 homers a year as a bonus. He’ll flail around this year, but i think next season we’ll see progress.
Sometimes I wish Rex would be quiet

Peter Bourjos had no hype.
Yet he is the best defensive centerfielder in baseball.

Peter Bourjos ranked number one on the Angels top prospect list.
He did have some hype.
He was liked by certain scouts, some prospect people and Angels peeps
But there really wasn’t any ‘hype’. Rghan placed him first (the only ranking to do so) to try and generate some Bourjos love, and because he believed in him.
The only hyped prospect we currently have is Trout. John Sickels has been a big believer and promoter in Reckling but I think that will change in his top prospect list for 2011 (judging by some comments). Other than that? Nada. We don’t have many hyped prospects, unlike the MacPherson, Kotchman, Kendrick, Wood etc era when we were getting more attention.
Trumbo (thank goodness) has totally flown under the radar, he’s putting up Chris Carter numbers with his new penchant for taking walks. Conger is slow and steady, and doesn’t generate much chatter (although his improvements should excite Angel fans, i.e. his B/KK rate).
Its actually quite nice to have prospects that we don’t have to defend if they struggle. It makes their breakout if it happens all the more enjoyable (a la Kendry Morales).

He never cracked the top ten in any professional list
He was our one because A- We had a weak farm
B- He wad near major league ready.
Howie and brandon were in the top 5 on many occasions, Usually brandon taking the top 2. Compared to Wood, bourjos was an unkown

Please good sir.
Try the reply button, it won’t bite.
That being said, I think our farm is where it should be. Some obvious young talent, some potential talent with big upside, and a shit-load of filler players so that the ones anybody cares about can have a team to play with.
It must be that time of day, the time to focus on sports.
Yes or no? Success or failure?
It’s really not clear how to answer this poll, so I won’t.
What did trading for Teixeira do to hurt our farm system? Did I miss Stephan Marek having a big year or something? In truth, that trade actually helped our farm system, netting us two high picks, which I believe became Trout and Skaggs.
sorry about that I messed up the poll question. It’s supposed to say has this season been a success? yes or no or too hard too answer at this point.
And again...
Use the “reply” button. One appears right underneath each person’s post. I know it seems like a pretty criticism, but when these posts get over 20 comments, it becomes near impossible to know who’s replying to what unless you use that simple little tool.
I really don't feel like this thread is worthy of existing.....
I know, I know, I’m one to talk right? But seriously, the poster hasn’t yet learned how to use the reply button, but for some reason is posting, there are grammatical errors, and the idea of the post itself, “has this year been a success or failure in the minor leagues”, it’s ridiculous.
What constitutes a successful and unsuccessful minor league campaign? Can there even be an unsuccessful one? These questions plague this topic.

Yes, there is such thing as an unsuccessful minor league season.
Look at the Dodgers system everybody has taken a step backward pretty much except for Jerry Sands

Not when you consider that everyone is also playing at a higher level of baseball
I’ll take .250 and 10 HR’s in AAA over .300 and 20 HR in A ball, just as long as the splits remain competitive.
I’m glad youlearned how to use the reply function but still, there just seems to be no way anyone could call any season of minor league baseball a failure. Not unless every player actually got worse, and didn’t get promoted from the year before.

Now it is time for you to learn how to use the space bar. (you wrote youlearned).

In the comment section of a post mate.....
You made a post, still haven’t fixed it. Here’s a rule of thumb that I had to learn the hard way, when you have more posts than comments on other threads, there’s something wrong. You didn’t include any statistics to back up your claims of judgements, you don’t participate in anything but your own crap….
This is for your own good, trust me I know. Don’t post again until you’ve participated quite a bit more to the overall website and get involved on game threads. Then, when you do make a post, at least make SOME attempt to substantiate it through numbers or quotes. Make sure you use fan shots for lesser, more meaningless threads, like this one, and don’t make more than a post a week.
I promise you, it’s for you own good.

Losing Kotchman and Marek did not thin the system.
Those other trades certainly did
44fan claims that it is a fact Vlad will get hurt. Here is to your "borrowed time" Vlad. You were, are, and will be the man Vlad.
In reality, we weren't that deep to begin with.
Yes, it’s been a failure, but not necessarily because of trades. More for the poor performance of literally every guy that’s been called up. We’re bust city over here. When does Mickey Hatcher lose his job again?
