Without Napoli, Angels Swept by Orioles

The Angels have not scored a run for Jered Weaver in his last 30 IP... so today was no different...

Final Score in Anaheim: Angels 0, Orioles 1

Star-divide

In three games against Baltimore, the Angels scored 1 run. It was on a balk.

The Angels had no RBI in their three weekend games. The Angels have now gone 29 and one-third innings without a single RBI.

Jeff Mathis scored a run on a Howie Kendrick base hit with two outs in the 6th inning of Wednesday's game.

Let's clock that RBI at the 2-hour mark and agree that, as of 3:30 PM on Sunday afternoon, the Angels have gone 97 hours without batting in a run... and counting.

If they score in the first inning tomorrow night they will stop the streak before it hits 125 hours.

Jered Weaver would have more support bagging groceries at Trader Joe's. The Angels have not scored a run with him on the mound for 30+ consecutive innings. But hey, bench Mike Napoli, yeah...

Fuck you Torii Hunter

A lousy single ties it up but nooooooo have to try and slug one out and instead it barely reaches the outer edge of the infield dirt.

More goes on abreu.

All he had to do was hit it out of the infield in the air. Torii actually had to get a hit.

by Clutch on Aug 29, 2010 3:12 PM PDT up reply actions

That is the problem. This team has been lacking in hitting power
for the last how many years now? The only exception was in 2002
when the Angels won the Championship with Glaus, Salmon, Erstad
and Spiezio among others. In all the other years, we win the AL West
and is fine and dandy with a lot of fans. The obvious lack of hitting
power is now being shown in full light! Not a surprise there by a
long shot. This problem has been there for years and ignored by
the front office. Angels philosophy seems to be to add pitchers
and pitchers only. Nothing else matters! On the plus side, the
front office has to deal with it now or we face 2011 with more
of the same disappointment. Here is to hoping the front office
opens its eyes this time.

…perhaps historical, even for an Angels team. No runs (excusing the gift on the balk) against a last place team?

I saw some pathetic Angel teams in the early 70’s. This team – at least for this series – is worse.

I was right there with you. I also some incredible FAIL in the 70’s, but back then we did not pretend that we had a contender on the field. These guys have no excuse for this magnitude of sucktitude.

Is this a low-water point for this organization in the last 15 years or so?

No RBIs all weekend.

0-6 versus Baltimore this season.

This team is pathetic.

And I’m beginning to see why Torii Hunter has never made a World Series. This guy isn’t fit to lead a Little League team, let alone a professional one.

He has been ridiculously stupid all season long.

I didn’t watch the game today, but some of the stuff I’ve seen him pull this season
has been absolutely jaw-dropping.

Getting caught stealing at third base, down two runs in the ninth inning, in Baltimore,
was the stupidest baseball play I’ve ever witnessed.

I've got nothing.

by bc56274 on Aug 29, 2010 4:35 PM PDT up reply actions

I dunno. Getting doubled off first last night is pretty close.

Not so much that he got doubled up, but the WAY he got doubled up. It was like he was thinking that if he was going to blow it on the basepaths, he might as well blow it on a ginormous scale. He probably regrets not burning the basepaths and getting a chance to slide headfirst into home before the throw came back to 1st base.

Interesting looking at the standings

all the teams with a .500 record or better have a positive run differential while the suck teams (including the Angels) have a negative run differential!

I guess now we have to beg the baseball gods for some lowly runs.

by phoenix15 on Aug 29, 2010 4:32 PM PDT up reply actions

tried to ignore all the warning signs of suckitude thinking we can still do this. Now it seems like just finishing with 81 wins is going to be difficult.

The way he is pitching is a joke. They should trade him. His performance
in last year’s playoff should have been enough to get rid of him. Damaged
goods that he is, only the Angels are the fools for even taking him! Kazmir
cannot shut this Angel line up as bad as it is! That says a lot about him
as a pitcher.

if Lackey left

due to lack of run support, than he must have focused on previous seasons since the season he left was the best offensive season in the team’s history.

Lackey leaving was purely about the $$$, and it will probably be the same for Weaver when he is a free agent.
