LA Times to Angels Fans: "Save Us!"
In another act of desperation to stave off the upcoming End Times of print news, the LA Times has now reverted to selling copies of old front pages. They're now reaching out to Angels fans who are willing to shell out $35 for an unframed copy of various front pages, such as the Oct. 28, 2002, story announcing the WC win.
Amusingly, many of the Dodgers' front page stories are overshadowed by stories about folks like Shaq and Gorbachev.

I have the OCR version...
and Sports Illustrated and several other magazines. No need for more dirty newsprint.
I love this team.
You can get one on EBAY for much less
and probably in better condition and I would not put it past the Times to have reprinted the stuff, so at least an eBay one is likely original.
They are reprints.
I bought a framed one To give as a present. I thought it was nice. We keep the original in an archive box.
THIS… IS… ANAHEIM!!
So, our highlights are: 2002, and no-hitters
Coulda sworn I remembered some other good times….
And if they really knew their audience, there’d be some heartbreak in there as well.
corporate cowardice
the fear of alienating any segment of the possible market makes marketing anything controversial impossible.
I wish OCR would do this
There’s a couple Jeff Miller and Mark Whicker columns that need to be framed.

These are not front pages torn from old newspapers
These are actually high resolution Lightjet C-prints on photographic paper from Pictopia, a fine art photo lab up north. They also do enlarged high-res reproductions of old National Geographic front covers. The LA Times isn’t actually doing anything here except collecting a license fee.
All I need are some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and I'm fine.
Your post came in right after mine...
…and if correct, now I’m not so sure I’m interested.
On one hand, it will look nice and all but it probably won’t help the Time that much financially and most importantly, it’s not “historic” and that it’s the original paper which I think is cool.
I’ll look into it though since I wouldn’t mind it if I could get the front page of the Sports Page the day after they won the Wolrd Series.
I did save that one but it got all discolored because I left it in bright light through a window for a couple days :/
This does kind of suck...and I'll probably buy one (thanks for info)
Parly because I’ve always meant to save these things but never do, then wish I’d have…
But also because I don’t want the LA times to go away. I’m no fan, trust me, but living in LA (we have it or Daily News which is puke), I’m still an old-schooler and many days at lunch I love nothing more than heading outside, sitting in the sun, and reading the paper.
I realize it’s literally 24-hour old news at that point and has lost many of the best columnists, etc. but I still love reading the paper in the sun. It’s a comfort thing.
Sitting with a tablet PC outside in the sun just doesn’t do itself justice (not to mention hard to read in bright, direct light).

can’t nec. relate via newspaper, but reading a book in the sun is amazing. read some of the Tim Salmon book that way, and loved it (that and read it at an empty ballpark).
From one in the publishing industry (however tenuously),
thank you from the bottom of my heart. I’m not in newspapers anymore, but I was for a long time. It’s nice to hear that someone out there still appreciates the product of lots of hard work. Even if it’s just a comfort thing.
Sigh.
i have the SI cover framed
my wife made me take it down when we moved in together
"You dont need long hair to rip off your sleeves and be a badass" - J. Allen
"Lighting Up Edison"
Still one of my favorite headlines – from the day after Game 2 (the 11-10 game, which I attended, for you youngsters). I still have a copy framed, along with my ticket stubs and yes, a couple of thunder sticks.
A “store bought” copy of a headline would be cool, but I don’t think it would feel the same.
