Rob Dibble fired, maybe we can get him as an announcer.
Maybe it is just me but our broadcast team is horribly boring to listen to since Rory died. We lost a great announcer much too early in life. The 2010 broadcast team of Smith, Mota, Rojas, and Gubicza is so boring and one note. I even miss the ridiculous statements from Hudler. At least he has some passion and enthusiasm in his voice. Smith isn't interesting and has the grinding one tone voice. I know they they are only announcers, but I would like to see some sort of change next year to spice it up. I think Dibble would bring some excitement to the booth and add a fresh perspective. He is extremely knowledgeable of the game having played it. I have liked him ever since he was on the Dan Patrick show.

Seriously? No thank you.
Don’t need a guy like Dibble. As cliched as Gubi is, I’d much rather have him and Rojas—or go after Hud and get him back—than this drivel.
Light up that halo! RIP, Nick.
I think not.
I’d rather have someone with a connection to the Angels, like Tim Salmon or Darin Erstadt come back and do color.
Rory Markas. Alex Chilton. 2010, you suck!
I don't understand why people bitch so much about our broadcasting team.
Yes, I would like Hud back. Yes they might not be top notch, but they get the job done capably. I actually happen to really like Rojas. He calls the game very well, which is his job. He provides some spice that Physioc did not have. Gubi is definitely not my favorite but oh well.
But you suggest Dibble? Dear god, I would rather stick glass-encrusted Q-tips into my ears than hear that guy spew crap.
We have a quality broadcast crew. Its our TEAM that is shit. These guys should be paid overtime for having to talk about this 2010 team.
Physioc is still around?
Where is he, holed up inside the Big A operating its new jumbotron and LED bespeckled halo? When are they going to let him out of there?

DIBBLE is the archetype of the mean high school jock who beat up smaller kids
That is why all us nerd revel in his demise.
No way Victor is going anywhere. No way Terry is going anywhere. Angels might “change the eye level” with Gubi, who knows? Jose Mota… I think it was a stopgap because of the sudden departure of Rory.

Who wants Dibble's douchebaggery?
His unapologetic meat-head act is probably really compelling to fellow tough-guy egomaniacs like Roger Clemens, but personally I’d rather hear Gubi riff about the stadium food, as painful as that is. At least Gubi has a sense of humor.
Smith is awesome, Victor is awesome, Mota is needed as the one guy who can interpret our spanish speaking players, and Gubi is tolerable now that we are aware of his 4 recycled cliches and can use them for comedy’s sake.
a trade of Gubi/Hud would round out the rotation nicely, but thats a longshot. I think Victor paired with Hud would be AMAZING.

Friends, I live in Washington, D.C.
This might be the worst single suggestion I’ve ever heard on Halos Heaven.
Too bad just getting Pujols back wouldn't do the trick, though.
We’d at least need Carpenter and Molina thrown in, too in order to make it work.

Is that why....
Soth still starts Mathis at catcher 4 games a week?
Wow!
Sorry for suggesting something that is a little out of the norm like adding a new professional broadcaster to the team to shake things up a little. I didn’t realize that everything in Haloland was so perfect that nothing ever needed to be changed.
It's not that asspipe...
Most everyone I know (read: not on this board) HATES our current announcers…with almost a religous passion.
Between a mismatched hire, an unfortunate passing, and one of the worst “let him go” decisions ever, Angels baseball is not fun to listen to for the first time I can ever remember.
This is the first year I’ve listened to or watched about only 50% of the games. Never ever been that low.
I’d like to blame it on their crappy play but we’ve had MUCH worse teams.
Fact is, it’s just not as entertaining any more and I watch/listen for entertainment.
They can’t bring someone back from the dead and I have no clue how long the contract is with Rojas, but they can fix Hud. Only they won’t and never will.
BUT getting someone like Dibble will only make things worse, not better. Then there will be a bunch of lifeless, boring announcers and an asshat thrown in for good measure.
No thanks.
He is only an a'hole
because he calls it like he sees it. He played baseball and is extremely knowledgeable about it the game. He has been in broadcasting for over 10 years. And like all controversial broadcasters, people will listen just to see what he might say. I can’t take another year of Mota on the TV or radio. He should be strictly a field reporter.
Well, Rev stole my thunder...
…but the main point you should be getting is that you posted your OPINION.
And most forums and boards are open to all opinions. But then others posted their OPINIONS about your thoughts, and you didn’t like most of them.
So we’re supposed to love yours, and not disagree? And if we do, you cry?
I’ve had my nuts mashed into finest hummus on this board and many others. But crying like a bitch won’t get you respect or acceptance.
Back up your opinion and fight against the grain or just share another one at another time, but don’t cry.
Especially on a sports board. You know how well pussification goes over with sports fans.
Welcome to the internet.
Dibble is a rod. I have listened to him on XM radio for 5 years or so, so this is not some random thought.
GOOD GOD MAN!, Try listening to him do Thd SHow, for 3 years, and there is no way in hell you would want him as our announcer.

a very simple thought:
I have never admired his broadcasting abilities. I have never enjoyed listening to him. therefore, I don’t want him.

That's not exactly what you said
Sorry for suggesting something that is a little out of the norm like adding a new professional broadcaster to the team to shake things up a little.
In fact, what you suggested was hiring Rob Dibble. Dibble is a “professional broadcaster” only in that he gets paid money to speak into a microphone. The best thing one can say about Dibble is that he isn’t as bad as Mike Blowers.
"I can't tell people what to think or not to think. Their perceptions are their perceptions. We just feel we've taken a step forward. At the end of the day, we have to play 162 games. Once that happens then we'll be able to evaluate the offseason moves."~Tony Reagins, on the Angels' offseason

OK, that's a distinction I can agree with
Blowers just makes me think less of the entire Mariners franchise because he sounds like a guy from the stands who won a chance to be the color guy for the night.
Dibble, on the other hand, is like a guy who never left his frat boy behavior behind when he got older, and seems to think that his Nasty Boy personna from 20 years ago provides a valuable service to the listeners by keeping it real.

In the end
Neither of them deserves to be called a “professional” broadcaster. It’s a sad reminder that even though baseball is a cruel meritocracy on the field, it’s a loathsome country club everywhere else.
Kind of like with managers?
If the Dodgers hadn’t decided to dip into the Old Boys Network and select Davey Johnson, then they most likely would have had Scioscia.
Stoneman thinking outside the box provided the Angels with one of their greatest resources.

Don't get me started on managers...
That’s a thread unto itself. I personally cannot wait for “Sweet” Lou to un-retire again in another few years so he can be a thoughtless, brooding, cantankerous old sumbitch skulking in the shade of someone else’s dugout. Scioscia is worth having around just to avoid the ridiculous managerial carousel that always produces more tabloid headlines than on-field results.
And when he does...
I personally cannot wait for "Sweet" Lou to un-retire again in another few years so he can be a thoughtless, brooding, cantankerous old sumbitch skulking in the shade of someone else’s dugout.
…you know it will be for more than the $14M/4 yrs he was paid in Chicago, which was less than the team paid his predecessor (Dusty Baker, $15M/4 yrs), but more than he made in Tampa Bay ($13M/4 yrs).
It is amazing to think that some of these retread managers get paid as much as a very good middle reliever, but are held to a much lower standard of “success”.

You're right
I had thought Scioscia was gone from the Dodgers organization before Johnson was hired, but a quick check of B-R indicates that they passed Big Mike over twice. That makes them doubly stupid.
My history was a little fuzzy
They went with Glenn Hoffman and passed Scioscia over, then he either quit or was not rehired to manage the Dukes.
This coincided with the sale by Peter O’Malley to NewsCorp, but I don’t recall of the failure to hire Scioscia (as I recall, he never even got an interview) was due to the chaos of an organization on the market or to a new owner not understanding all its assets.

Fred Claire didn't like Mike as a manager
He actually told Mike that he wouldn’t be the Dodger manager. I don’t have a citation for that offhand other than my recollection, but there was something specific he didn’t like about his organizational style.
Because he won?
Otherwise, the irony in Scioscia managing for the Angels is that the Angels are closer to the “Dodger way” of playing baseball (using the title of Fresco Thompson’s book from the 50s) than the Dodgers themselves. His coaching staff is even infused with such Dodger mafia as Alfredo Griffin and Mickey Hatcher.
Basically, 2000s Angels = 1960s Dodgers
2000s Dodgers = Any generic team run by a money-sucking owner

I love Terry Smith
I just think pairing him with Mota doesn’t work. I would like to see Hud come back, but not paired with Smith, either. Hud couldn’t read a line up to save his life. Gubi and Rojas, meh, it could be worse. Actually, they’re not bad, but if I have to hear one more time about how a pitcher needs to stay within his mechanics I think I’m gonna slit my throat. Well, maybe not mine, but somebody’s gonna pay a price.

i like dibble, he's knows his and is entertaining he'd bring some energy to the booth...
this years crew is worse than listening to lpga announcers. the thing with dibble is who he is paired with. i thought dan patrick in his old espn radio days was at his best when he had dibble by his side and kevin kennedy never sounded better than with dibble on xm.
Terry Smith is sharp.
He’s balanced but has enthusiasm for the Halos, he’s got a good strong voice, and he’s makes funny and insightful comments. What more do you want?
And Gubi’s no brain surgeon, but he and Rojas have some humorous banter together and BY GOD Victor’s an improvement over Fizz.
He travels fastest who travels alone.
I just don't like him as much as other announcers.
I think his excitement on big plays seems forced. He has a one tone voice that isn’t relaxing to listen to for a long time. His side stories are average at best. I liked Rory a lot better. Obviously we can’t fix that. I don’t think Terry needs to go. I think he should stay, I just think he needs someone to complement him. And I think that person has to have a stronger personality.
you just don't like him

I think making fanposts for this topic...
… Shouldn’t be tolerated anymore. Its a useless and tired arguement that EVERYONE has a different opinion on. Which, usually leads to name calling and generally just puts a bad taste in mouths. Rory is gone, Rojas is here to stay. Get over it. If and when the Angels replace someone then we can discuss it. But until then I think this topic is a pointless discussion, unless of course the point is too start a name calling war.
Since I’ve been a member here(2006). I have seen numerous posts on this topic and it never amounts to anything but a heated arguement with no conclusion but animosity. In my opinion, If you have that big of a problem with it, write the Angels. I for 1 am tired of these “hire/fire announcers” threads on my favorite website.

Rob Dibble is an absolute asshole
Funny at times, but he never misses an opportunity to be a bastard.
Look, I miss Rory too, and Victor Rojas was terribly green at the start of the season. But he has shown steady improvement since, and he is learning to bring a spry sense of humor into play. I laughed at the Mel Stottlemyre Night joke he made early in tonight’s (Friday’s) game when both pitching coaches were making lots of trips to the mound. I believe that he will round into form nicely over the next few years.
Gubi is another matter. I liked him a lot with Rory, and I strongly endorsed his replacing Hud in the booth (although I agree it was a blunder to banish Hud completely from the coverage). Gubi however doesn’t seem to be a good match with Victor for some reason. I could see replacing him on the TV side and moving him over to radio with Terry. Terry and Gubi are apparently childhood friends, and they get along superbly.
Now, who could we get for TV color instead of Gubi? My vote offhand would be for Chuck Finley. He is absolutely hilarious, and just salty enough to blend well with Victor’s niceness.
Now THIS is a great idea

And as a bonus, we’d have the constant wonder if his ex-wife would break into the broadcast booth and begin hitting Fin with the spike heel of her shoe.
