Colby Rasmus requests trade: How would he look in left?
A player requesting a trade is never a good sign about their maturity, but playing for LaRussa I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Too bad we already wiped out most of our minor league talent, as I'm sure they could get a nice haul for him.

Wow
Big left-handed bat with good outfield D? Talk about a perfect fit. But if we were to win the inevitable bidding war, there’d be nothing left in our farm.
It would sure make for poetic justice
If we pried Rasmus away in the same manner that they stole Edmonds.
My recollection
The deal was for Bottenfield. Kennedy was more or less a throw-in to close the deal.

No, Kennedy was an important piece
Bottenfield had had the big year before, but the Angels were looking to solve 2B for a while.
What's the price?
Rivera, Chatwood, Richards and Amarista?
"You play for Cleveland? I didn't know they still had a team." - Claire Holloway
"Yup, we've got uniforms and everything, it's really great!" - Jake Taylor
What about Jeremy Moore, Peter Bourjos and Howie Kendrick?
Ya too maybe to muc, but then we could sign Crawford to play left, or trade Napoli for Ellsbury and move Rasmus to center?? Then Alexi or Alberto could play 2nd.
Brian Stokes, Jeff Mathis and juan Rivera
should get this deal done. If they want more, they can have Robb Quinlan. That should get it done.
I'd like it, but he's not a Scioscia-type player
He hits like Mike Napoli—.250 with walks and power and a whole lotta strikeouts. We don’t know how to coach that.
But yeah, him or Matt Kemp, I’ll take in LF.
He's not that good . . . . yet.
He is only 24 and could blossom, or he could continue on the path of league average.
.264 / .349 / .495 is not league average
That’s an OPS+ of 124, which would put him just below Torii Hunter at 129.
ok.
I just dont like his raw stats so much. HR/RBI/SB/AVG/K’s, . For what it would take to get him, I think we could do better.

It's nice to dream
But (1) Rasmus is pre-arbitration, so there isn’t a team in baseball that could reasonably repay the Cardinals with prospects, and (2) Rasmus is a left-handed Mike Napoli, which means he would just end up getting benched for Reggie Willits.
Naps is the word. Rasmus is actually one player that would be sensible to trade Napoli for.
If we’re dreaming, how about a package of Napoli, Kendrick and one of (Moore, Trumbo, Grichuk) for Rasmus? Just as long as there’s no pitching in the deal.
Molina’s in the last year of his contract next season, and he’s had a real disappointing year at the plate.
It would take us out of the Crawford race, which I think would be a nice turn of events.
Ummm...no
The Cards right now own 2012 option on Yadier that is cheaper than whatever Napoli will be receiving that year, so purely from a cost standpoint they’ve no incentive to move.
Second, while he’s been a disappointment offensively this year, his WAR is still higher than Napoli’s and his defense remains strong—he leads the NL in a caught stealing rate of 47%, something I think even the most ardent supporter of Napoli doesn’t think he could come close to matching. It is reasonable to assume Molina’s offensive game could return next year, and his D has been consistent annually. That means the Cardinals would already be employing one of the best catchers in MLB for the next two seasons.
I think we can safely assume the Cardinals are well-covered at 1B as well.
Put simply, Napoli would be an overall downgrade for the Cardinals. On the other hand, I’d love to acquire him if only to have had the trifecta of Molina brothers behind the plate—especially the best one of them all. It will take a hell of a lot more than offering Napoli as a replacement to get that done (plus Kendrick and an A-level prospect), though, and I don’t see the Angels offering the sort of ransom the Cards would demand.

Alright, I'm going to start the off-season fantasy GM bullshit right now.
This is pants around the ankles in middle school stuff, but oh well.
The most unlikely piece in my fever dream: Yadier Molina is going to make ~6M in the last year of his contract (+ $7M club option for 2012). That’s about what Napoli may make in arbitration. So:
Napoli, Kendrick, Trumbo, Moore, Wilson to St Louis—> Rasmus, Molina
Abreu, Aybar to Dodgers—> Furcal
Free agent: Beltre
Released: Mathis
Your 2011 Angels:
Furcal SS
Callaspo 2B
Hunter RF
Morales 1B
Rasmus LF
Beltre 3B
Rivera DH
Molina, Conger C
Bourjos CF
Bench: Izturis, Amarista, Willits, Auer, etc
Wow that might be the worst offseason I've heard of
That is wayy to much to give up for 2 guys, Rasmus I would give 2 good players and a decent prospect. Molina is a waste of player. He is a great defensive catcher but I dont like his bat. Conger is the future at catcher. As for Furcal, he is regressing, I’m not sure if he has many good seasons left in him. Just way to much to give up for Rasmus. I would like Beltre though.
who replaces Furcal at SS when he goes down?
and who replaces Maicer when HE goes down?
