Fernando Rodney Labor Day Loser
Final Score in Anaheim: Angels 2, Indians 3
Fernando Rodney has a guaranteed contract through next season but the only thing this idiot can seem to do is not get three outs as assigned. This pile of garbage in an Angels uniform entered Monday night's game with the score tied at 2 in the top of the 9th inning and made sure there was a pile of trash pitching to behold. When Juan Rivera is you big late-inning pinch hitter, though, it is not like the Angels were going anywhere had they got the victory tonight. Nice to see the stands half-empty on a holiday in honor of the brilliant offseason signing of the Rodney Allen Ripping.

well, hey...
at least we have Trumbo and Conger in Angel red tomorrow. As Rotoworld says’ish (off top of my head), “two more reasons for Mike Scioscia to bench Mike Napoli.”

I hope Rodney continues to FAIL. I don't even have to hope to hard.
This will force the FO into finding us a REAL closer for 2011.
I thought it was Arredondo
Then hey maybe Jepsen ….
No Jepsens not it maybe Walden…

Rodney sucking ass must be news to only a certain few in the angel FO
what a bad signing..and the AMOUNT… oh man… THE AMOUNT.
Arte should sack up and fire the person responsible for robbing him at gunpoint.
What do you need a fancy suit for, Charlie, you ain't got no job to wear it to.
With some of these contracts the FO picks up these days
it’s almost as if their litmus test as to whether a player is good or not is “Wow, look at how much money they are paying him. Man, he MUST be good, right?”
Stokes released?
What’s the point in doing that now? Why not wait till the end of the season?

Fernando Rodney definitely BOTG...
But why do I feel like I want Haren up there as well? I mean he pitched a good game, but that one inning where he loaded them up and walked a run in…man they always come back to haunt us…
by maze88 on Sep 6, 2010 9:27 PM PDT via mobile reply actions
He only allowed one run.
No way he should be the blame. We cant expect him to be perfect

Someday, we'll tell our posterity, that we saw first hand the 2010 Angels.
And lived to tell about it.

Seems a little harsh...
Sure, he gave up a run in the 9th but he can’t be perfect every night. What about Haren walking in a run? I’d point the finger at that before I would at Rodney’s inning. But the fact of the matter is putting 2 runs up against the worst of the Indians pitching staff is just not going to get it done…
by AybarIsTheNewFiggy on Sep 6, 2010 9:49 PM PDT reply actions
Haren giving up 2 runs through 7 innings ends up being an ERA below 3.
Rodney giving up 1 run in 1 inning ends up being an ERA of 9
Edge: Haren
Well if you really wanna play numbers...
Haren ERA 4.29, Record 9-12
Rodney ERA 3.88, Record 4-1
Again though, I don’t blame either guy. I blame our offense.

If you really, really wanna play numbers
Dan Haren: 3.61 xFIP, 3.6 WAR
Fernando Rodney: 4.59 xFIP, 0.2 WAR
We have an offense?
Damn, here the season is almost over and I complely missed that. I really need to start paying more attention to the games.
Really? You are going to take yourself that seriously? Well I guess someone has to.
+1
offense sucked again.
I love this team.

Dammit, I wanted to vote for Fernando Rodney for BotG.
But I only have choices for Fernando Rodney, Fernando Rodney, and Fernando Rodney.

and I can't believe
that Fernando Rodney is dead last in the poll. He deserves more blame then that.

Hooray for Mathis!
He got a lil close to .200 for my taste last game. Thank god for the ofer today. Hi five to Naps for hitting 2 doubles and K’ing twice, once when it mattered and the pressure was on. Oh yea, he stranded 4. But I’m sure his .CRAP and .DOH averages went up. Cuz his .RISP average sure as hell isn’t.
You bring up an intriguing point
We need new advanced stats to describe what’s happening with the 2010 Angels, like LOST (Losses Over Somnambulant Turtle) and GiTBB (Games in The Bag Blown).
Napoli put himself in scoring position twice with his bat
It’s Aybar’s fault he didn’t score. And 2-4 is a pretty good night. Yeah, he didn’t get the timely hit wit the bases loaded but let’s not try to compare Naps 2-4 with Mathis’ 0-3 (it would have been 0-4 if he batted again).
A wise man does not need advice and a fool won't take it.
What do you mean? Napoli was clearly clogging the basepaths so that Aybar couldn't get on.

I am really sick of the less than mediocre offense and defense of Aybar and Kendrick,
it seems they have really given up. Rivera and Mathis are just beyond words now. Soth there is no law against changing pitchers in mid-inning if they do not have their stuff. Try using the bullpen more.
I hate the Texas Rangers
This was the one game I get to go to all season cuz I’m very broke and gave blood for free tickets and yeah rodney can’t get 3 damn outs! Disappointing.

“No tienes cable”. That’s “YOU don’t have cable”. If he wanted to say “I don’t have cable”, it’s “No tengo cable”.

So I guess Rodney didn't stay within his mechanics.

This it what it used to feel like...
From 1961 to, well, 2002. As they say, Back To the Future.
The only thing I’m amazed about is that we actually won the 2002 World Series.
Seriously, as someone who has seen it all from the beginning, when I watch Fernando Rodney being Fernando Rodney, I think about 2002 and it makes the pain go away.
its so funny how...
… If there is a glimmer of hope (like Naps double). It is so short lived because you suddening realize who’s on deck. Aytard and Lil Jeffy Maffis hitting back to back… That is so painful to look at it is funny.

So sad
They probably could have traded Rodney before the deadline, too, but decided they were still in the playoff hunt or something silly like that.
In truth, they probably still have no interest in trading the guy. It’s been less than a year since they decided to hand over millions to him and at this point he’s done exactly what would be expected. If Tony and Mike liked him so much sucking for Detroit, why would they suddenly not like him sucking for us?
oh and one more thing
Did anybody have the stomach to keep the post-game on? Hearing Mota make excuses for Rodney – “trying to be TOO fine with his pitches…”
No, Jose. He sucks. He doesn’t know how to throw strikes. The only thing he seems to be too fine with is his manscaping.
Hard throwing relievers usually aren't that hard to move
Kyle Farnsworth comes to mind. Fernando’s salary is problematic, but if say the Yankees were willing to simply take him off our hands for nothing, Tony should have jumped all over it.
But maybe you’re right. It’s possible we’re the only team dumb enough to pay Rodney $6 million a year.
Yes, Rodney sucked.
But I have to ask the following, because it happened with both Jepsen and Rodney.
How much of the blame for trying to be “too fine” lies with Mathis? It seems that once there are two strikes, Mathis keeps calling for the outside corner, even when the ump isn’t letting him have it. Why doesn’t he just have the pitcher go after the guy?
Angels baseball. We do what we must, because we can -- HaloDutch
And by extension
The blame goes to Soth (and either Butch, Mercado or Soliz, depending on who’s the main coach for catchers).
