How to Trade for Grady Sizemore
The Angels are in need of desperate help in the outfield. With Abreu and Hunter approaching thier late 30's and questions surrounding Peter Bourjos, the angels should consider trading for Grady Sizemore. Yes, Sizemore is most likely the best player on the Indians and is the face of the franchise, but for the right trade, the Indians might consider dealing the 5-tool player to Anaheim. Sizemore would not only improve our lack luster defense, but he would provide a wonderful bat at the top of the lineup. Sizemore would have an astronomical impact on the angels (assuming he stays healthy) and could catapult the Angels to the top of the AL west. Some possible trade packages for Sizemore could possibly look something like this:
Sizemore for Trevor Reckling, Mark Trumbo and possilbly an infielder such as Howie Kendrick.
Sizemore for Ervin Santana (probably never going to happen)
Sizemore for Reggie Willits, Peter Bourjos and Izturis.
Sizemore for Brandon Wood, Trevor Reckling and Erick Aybar
Sizemore for Mike Napoli and Brandon Wood with possibly another mid level player in their such as Willits.
Sizemore for Jeff Mathis (assuming any logical team would take him), Pineiro and Reckling.
The Angels have the players to make a signifigant run at Sizemore. Assuming Tony Reagins will get rid of them, unlike he did with Brandon Wood. Its simple, call up Cleveland and ask what they want. The Indians are a franchise in need of starting pitching help and infield help. Two things that the angels are overloaded with.
This trade could be a win win for both sides.

We get Sizemore and flip him for Granderson.

Sizemore is a better trade candidate at the trade deadline than he is now.

But why would the indians want our trash?
Willits, Bourjos and Izturis? don’t quite see them want those guys.

Bourjos ain't trash
He played CF last year as good as anyone has ever played the position. That has value.
His bat, at least to this point, lowers his value.

Um...no
His hitting would be icing on the cake.
In about 50 games last season, he finished the year #2 in CF assists (Adam Jones, 12 to Bourjos’ 10, with Jones making 3X as many starts), led the AL in Total Zone Runs (17, to #2 Frankyn Gutierrez at 15, with 2.5X the starts), his RF/G was 3.18, which was greater than Adam Jones’ AL-leading 3.01 but with insufficient innings.
Give him a full season and he can lead the AL across the board for CF, with a WAR for his D alone which makes his bat much less critical to the team.

It is the little things which make a difference to the pitchers
Pitchers are more free to play the way they want to when they know the infield is defensively skilled, and when the OF can range easily enough to balls hit in the gap. Good defense brings a confidence to the pitcher which can give him the swagger necessary to put away the opposing batters.
At age 24 on Opening Day, I’m not particularly worried that he won’t adjust to hitting the ball at the MLB level; he is still quite young. In the meantime, his defensive prowess is just staggering.

and he wasnt overmatched like wood.
Bourjos hit the ball hard and just seemed to have a lot of bad luck. I think he will do much better this year.
by Balls and Strikes on Jan 18, 2011 7:49 PM PST up reply actions
Yeah we know all that
Can we at least wait and see if those rates hold up over a whole season before we crown him the new king of center fielders?
Apparently "we" all don't
Not if Bourjos is being ID’d as “trash”.
But why would the indians want our trash?
Willits, Bourjos and Izturis? don’t quite see them want those guys.
The kid had 10 assists in 50 games. I think Rivera led the team in 2009 with 9 assists over the entire season. This suggests that Bourjos is getting himself to balls faster than the average CF and his arm is strong and accurate enough to nail the advancing runner. That is a difficult combination to find, as OF frequently have a cannon but move more poorly (Rivera, Guerrero) or have great speed but a weak arm (Pierre, Damon).
I’m not crowning him anything, simply pointing out that the kid absolutely kicked ass patrolling CF in the 1/3 of a season he played, meeting or exceeding the results of veterans who played 2X to 3X as many games. To indicate a rebuilding team wouldn’t want him (and labeling him as some of our “trash”) isn’t very insightful.

Izzy ain't trash either.
Now Reggie…

Didn't mean to say that Bourjos is trash.
Indeed he was one of the most exciting players on the Angels last year. It’s basically Sizemore for Bourjos and a few scrubs… okay, Izzy is ok when healthy…. WHEN HEALTHY…
Just don’t think the Indians would go for a trade like this.
Ahhh... Yes... Finally back home in SoCal!!!

Izzy is good, he just isnt strong enough to play 3b or SS on a regular basis.
His injuries come when he has to make the long throws across the diamond. Stick him at 2B, move howie to 3rd.

The only players the Angels have that other teams are interested in is Kendry Morales,
Jered Weaver, and to a lesser extent Mike Napoli. I highly value Ervin Santana but I doubt few teams even know who he really is or what his abilities are.
Peter Bourjos is faster than anyone on your team.
Hell, right about now I'd take Tom Sizemore to boost our offense.

Especially the kickass version
of Saving Private Ryan (or Blackhawk Down, for that matter).
If he didn’t hit the ball, he’d at least go after the pitcher.
I don't understand
none of these guys will be around after we trade them for Pujols
Well, come see a fat old man some time!
by Moondoggy on Jan 15, 2011 2:12 AM PST reply actions 2 recs
We won't get Pujols via trade or in FA
If Morales returns to form, there’s no way in hell the Angels try to get him. Morales is cheaper, and there are many holes to fill, of which one of them is not 1B.
Um....I think that was a joke
Sears has a sale on Hyperbole Sensors you might want to investigate.

General rule to determine if a comment is sarcastic:
If the words “Pujols” and “Angels” appear together in a sentence without the phrase “no way in hell are we going to get” (or some variation thereof), then the comment is sarcastic.

Shin Shoo Choo is the best player on the Indians
and one of the best players in baseball. Grady Sizemore wishes he was SSC.

Sizemore would be a great piece
but he wouldn’t make us favorites. still, it’d be nice to see:
LF Sizemore
DH Abreu
1B Morales
RF Hunter
C Napoli
2B Kendrick
3B Callaspo/Wood
SS Aybar
CF Bourjos
I’d have to assume Rivera would be in that trade. Maybe Rivera, Reckling, and Jeremy Moore?
Thank you, Nick Adenhart. You will always be remembered. #34
Er... Um...
With those infamous Grady Sizemore pictures floating around, I don’t know that you should say “Sizemore would be a great piece” without a certain very specific meaning in mind.

Sounds like a personal problem. Maybe you should remove it as your wallpaper…
:)
If Treckling, Trumbo, and Kendrick can get Sizemore
maybe we should just add Willits and Wood and go after Braun.

Shit, don't tease me with a good time.... Here's my 25 man roster.
Assuming we traded one of Reckling or Chatwood, and Trumbo, and Kendrick, and hopefully Juan Rivera for Grady Sizemore, and a minor league pitcher of lesser stature than one of the pitchers we traded. Might as well try to sign Jorge Cantu to play 3rd as well. He’s serviceable, versatile, and wouldn’t command a long term deal, assuming it’s in the range of 2 years for $7M.
1. Maicer Izturis – 2nd / SS / 3rd
2. Bobby Abreu – DH / RF / LF
3. Grady Sizemore – LF / CF / RF
4. Kendry Morales – 1st / DH
5. Torii Hunter – RF / CF / DH
6. Mike Napoli – C / 1st / DH
7. Jorge Cantu – 3rd / 1st /2nd
8. Erick Aybar – SS
9. Peter Bourjos – CF / LF / RF
Bench 1: Hank Conger – C
Bench 2: Jeff Mathis – C
Bench 3: Alberto Callaspo – 2nd / 3rd
Bench 4: Reggie Willits – OF
Bench 5: Chris Pettit or Jeremy Moore – OF
SP1: Jered Weaver
SP2: Dan Haren
SP3: Ervin Santana
SP4: Joel Pineiro
SP5: Scott Kazmir
BP1: Kevin Jepsen
BP2: Hasanori Takahashi
BP3: Scott Downs
BP4: Jason Bulger, Michael Kohn, Francisco Rodriguez, or Trevor Bell
Set-up: Jordan Walden
Closer: Fernando Rodney
There is potential for solid production out of that line-up. I like the staff, and the bullpen. Another positive is in 2012, when/if Mike Trout is ready, Bobby Abreu will be a FA and Torii Hunter can be our full-time DH and greatest 4th OF in all of baseball. With Trout, Bourjos, and Sizemore, I would love to challenge someone to find a faster, more athletic, and better defensive outfield in baseball. Sizemore has the OBP you look for in the leadoff role, but I think his power would be better utilized in a run producing spot. I have faith in Maicer at leadoff. When Maicer has a day off, Sizemore shifts to leadoff and everyone moves up a spot.
Plus, if We’re counting on Pineiro and Kazmir to round out the back end of our rotation this year and they’re pitching well, we could offer one of them at the deadline for a better option at 2nd or 3rd. I have no qualms about letting a kid pick up the 5th spot in the rotation the last two months of the season, especially if it improved us offensively. I feel our starting staff and bullpen could soak up the innings if a kid faltered.
But anyways, there is my 25 man roster.
I'd love to get Grady and his Bobble-dong
Well, just the former, not so much the latter, but the ladies might. Cleveland might bite on this deal, but for as much as I would like this to happen…I doubt it. His contract is danger (see points in other “acquire Grady” post), he’s extremely popular in Ohio’s northern most portal to hell, and if there’s a player that can rebound after an injury, it would be a guy like Grady Sizemore.
Minus Sizemore…it’s a gamble also with Cantu. If it’s the Cantu of 2010, I say pass. Callaspo could duplicate that. If its Cantu of (most) years prior, let’s roll with it and hope our scouting is up to par. He is only 29 this season, so he may have a few good years in him.

you don't want Sizemore
he was one of the most overrated players in baseball. with a bum knee, no thanks.
Dewey and KBR are just.......too........sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!!!!!
The Wolfpac is looking for new soldiers! Change your logo to the black and red!!!
Stay away from Sizemore, unless somehow can take a cheap chance on him
Players that play that style and start having injuries just don’t seem to every stay healthy again.
They are fun to watch and I love those types of players, but once the injuries start, think Erstad/Greer.
