It appears clear that the Rays are having a fire sale. While Evan Longoria is currently under a VERY reasonable contract (3 yrs remaining - total just over $10MM, and then three more yrs of club options total another $30MM), if the Rays really are looking to cut costs, maybe they trade him. Do I really think they'll do this? No, but it's nice to dream.
Sounds like the Mets are looking to cut costs. Could David Wright become available?
Either way, both of these players would come at a high price. A number of top prospects would have to be dealt, and likely a current 'financially sound' starter (or two?) would need to be included as well.
Longoria would be the better fit & better player, but it would be great to see either in an Angel's hat!
