Pujols to Angels. Where is this coming from?
Does anyone have any idea where the hell this is coming from? Seems to be incredibly speculative.

Not only is it incredibly speculative,
but it’s not even based on anything but conjecture instead of any knowledge at all.
This is the space where you write a clever quote or something like that.

It doesn't mean anything.
But it is still gonna get way too many Angels’ fans hopes up. Sure, it’s great to think the Angels had reasons for being so frugal this winter, but even if they plan to aggressively pursue him if (and it’s a big if) he gets to free agency we will only make a “significant offer.” Sound familiar?

Pujols to the Angels...
From the same people that said CC to Anaheim was a lock, and that we were the front runners for Beltre.
YOU DON'T KNOW THE POWER OF THE DARKSIDE.....
If we could afford half...
Which half would you want? Upper or lower? Right or left? Front or back?

Pujols is a machine (who can talk to a copy machine)
we would only get spare parts…unless he uses his talking to copy machines to make more money
But Beltre is not Pujols.
Is Beltre going to the Hall of Fame?
Is Beltre arguably the best player in the history of the game?
Can Beltre transform a franchise?
Shoot, is Beltre even a franchise player?
If there is one player Arte would bust the bank for, it’s Pujols. Am I saying we have a decent shot at getting him? Of course not. Let’s not kid ourselves. But a player like Albert Pujols will make GMs go nuts to get him. Don’t be surprised if New York and Boston get in it. I’d love to think they would just sit tight with their own all-star first basemen, but it won’t happen. A player like Pujols is a gu you make room for, whether that’s moving Teixera or Gonzalez to the outfield or dealing one of them. Sounds crazy, but it could happen.

Hall of Fame
is a real possibility for Beltre, in fact, depending on what he does over the next five years. But the answers to the other questions are no and no (questions 3 and 4 are the same, phrased differently).
Beltre does not belong in the Hall of Fame.
Unless he can duplicate 2010 five more times and win a World Series, which won’t happen (even hitting in Arlington). He’s had a good career, but not a Hall of Fame career.

Who said they couldn't afford him?
They can afford any player in the league, but a line has to be drawn somewhere. Not offering any more money to Beltre has nothing to do with whether or not they can.
I'll believe it when I see it
And what a sight it would be.

Pulojs to Angels!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So will Kendry DH?
Disclaimer: This is a joke. For those of you that don’t realize it’s a bit of fun speculation during a 15 inch snow storm, just relax. Taylor Martinez is returning to the Huskers in the fall & Kendry is returning to the Halos, even if they acquire Pujols. I’m guessing we’ll trade Juan Rivera straight up for Prince Albert, right?
And yes, I’m on Budweiser #18.
Go Huskers! Go Halos! Tuck Fexas!
The "story" was from Phil Rogers
He is the sort of print dino who aspires no higher than to be Buster Olney.
And he falls short of that goal.

It's so they can write nasty articles about Art, Tony, and the Angels
how they no longer dominate in the AL West when Pujols signs a long term contract with the Mariners.
Peter Bourjos is faster than anyone on your team.
Heaven if it does happen

I really don't think somebody's online diary needs to be linked as a source.
What do you need a fancy suit for, Charlie, you ain't got no job to wear it to.
This could quite possibly be the most assinine article ever by the Chicago Tribune
The only trade St Louis would even consider would be the entire starting rotation of the Phillies plus a major league ready 1st baseman. The Cardinals will do whatever it takes to lock Pujols up for the long term.
12/14/10 4:30 a.m. pst. I wake up to find out that Cliff Lee screwed over both the Yankees and Rangers. The world has truly become a better place.
Wonder if they're going by the Arte Moreno definition of "whatever it takes"...?

I don't think this is true
What’s his value on the open market – 7/200 or something like that? I don’t think the Cards will pay that. I expect him to give them a discount and perhaps have a lot of deferred money, but it’ll still be a big number.
I dreamt about this last night...
also in the same dream:
1. I won the lottery.
2. 10 supermodels threw themselves at me and wanted to bear my children.
3. I bought the Rams and moved them back to LA.
I love this team.
what a dream
the rams will NEVER return

When Pujols hits free agency (he wont)
The Angels will be big players (they wont) and come in strong (be late) and offer an enormous (significantly below market value) offer and lock up (fail horribly at signing) the best player this generation.
Afterward Arte will confidently boast that he did what it took (cry over and over again to the media about the relative value of things now compared to when he bought something 10 years ago) and he landed (fucking failed hard) the biggest fish in the pond.
I cannot wait (to cry)
I brought sexy back, but they only gave me store credit....

Awesome
But not quite accurate. You need to add:
Reagins will state that no formal offer was made (it was, three times, but they set a 20 minute deadline on each and then pulled each so – technically – the Halos had no offer on the table when they got left behind…again).

We’ll both end up with the same result

St Louis will rent their arch to Oklahoma City for 10 years to pay for Pujols.
Then they will build a huge bronze statue of him straddling the river like the Colossus of Rhodes and rename E. St Louis Poo Holes.

Isn't East St. Louis already filled with Poo Holes?

No way Pujols goes anywhere.
If Pujols goes, they might as well shutter the stadium. No one will come to the games. The Cardinals will pay Pujols whatever it takes to keep him. I’m guessing a contract that covers the rest of his playing career and then some. The only chance we have of seeing Pujols up to bat in the Big A is if the Cardinals are being hosted by the Angels in Interleague play.
At 32 years old
I hope we don’t He is going to want a 6 or 7 yeard deal at 30 million a year. I’m sure when he is 35 and up he wont be the best in the game.
"Pie Iesu domine, dona eis requiem".
He'll get at least 8.
Ridiculous, I know. But we also thought Werth would max out at 4 or 5.
I also think if he stays in St. Louis he won’t average 30 a year. The only way they can keep him is if he doesn’t demand what he could easily get on the open market. If there’s no hometown discount, they can’t keep him. That’s why the signing of Matt Holliday was so stupid, simply because it cripples the team. The signing either causes them to sign Pujols and essentially have no financial flexibility ot make any more significant moves over the next five years, or it causes them to lose out on Pujols altogether.
If he goes to the open market, he could easily get 8/$240.

You're totally right.
It’s like if we’d kept Lackey n Figgins, accept on a bigger scale. And Lackey would’ve ended up being the expensive “ace” pile of junk at the head of 4 scrap heapers for years as Weaver and Santana walk away and Haren stays in AZ. Figgins would be a true #8 hitter at lead off in 2011. And we’d be choking on that plus GMJ, Kazmir contracts, plus we still get to see Mathis. That would suck.
St. Louis faces the same…. though at least Pujols and Holliday can hit for now and the near future. But if they retain both, they’re gonna have about 40-50 million to spend on all other roster spots… it’ll be hard to keep Rasmus if he develops, or good pitchers.
