Boston Bloggers Want to Trade Youkilis
http://bosoxinjection.com/2011/10/18/offseason-changes-trade-kevin-youkilis/
Boston Bloggers are calling for the trade of Kevin Youkilis based on him being oft injured and a bad clubhouse person. Could he be a fit for the Angels though? Here are some interesting breakdowns of career stats (not just BA and RBI, Reagins):
Career Home(Boston) Stats .305/.401/.513 (OPS .914)
Career Away Stats .273/.381/.471 (OPS .852)
Career Batting 4th .298/.407/.530 (OPS .937)
Career RISP .328/.436/.554 (OPS .990)
At Angels Stadium .309/.411/.553 (OPS .964)
*3rd Highest OPS at any away stadium with 40
or more games played.
Career BABIP .329
Now I ask, could Youkilis be the .800+ OPS man we need for our line-up? I can't really speculate on the Clubhouse issues but with all the middle infielders we have, I would assume that Scioscia would give Youkilis enough off days to keep him fresh and healthier. He makes $12 Million in 2012 with a $13 Million Option in 2013 or a $1 Million Buyout.
Suppose our (insert name of future Angels GM) and new Boston GM Ben Cherington can see some common ground in swapping out their respective bad contracts(i.e. Wells and Lackey) with a few extra trimmings on the side.
Boston needs pitching and pitching prospects bad. Angels need depth in their rotation, a big bat, and room for Trout.
Pure speculation.
An intriguing idea regardless…

Wait
wasn’t this the same fanpost/shot that was here a few hours ago?

Looks like it is.

Angels Bloggers want to trade Vernon Wells and Bobby Abreu
Shoot, From what I have seen on here Angels Bloggers want to fire Arte Moreno (still not sure how that works), Mike Scioscia, and pretty much get rid of everyone down to the ball boys.

No, Arte can stay if he can find a way to hire Friedman
The ballboys can stay too – they put up a combined 8.3 WAR last season.

Again
Posted a longer version of this earlier in the Fanshot:
No complicated mutli-player trade; Callaspo-for-Youkilis would be intriguing. Similar WAR; to the extent that Youk is better overall, he also makes more than twice as much money. Callaspo has been healthier.
From an Angels perspective, I’d be very worried about Youkilis’ health. He missed a substantial number of games both in 2011 and 2010. I think there was a back issue; those tend to be chronic.
It would be an interesting deal straight-up, but nothing more.
Callaspo isn't worth Youkilis, health issues or no.
And Boston has 3B prospects with higher ceilings.
Youkilis WAR, last five seasons: (4.3, 4.8, 6.4, 6.0, 4.3)
Callaspo WAR, last five seasons: (4.5, 0.5, 1.3, 1.8, 1.1)
Callaspo had a career season in terms of WAR, but it also proves that WAR still has some eccentricities involved. I don’t think anyone beyond Angel fans would feel that a fair swap.
I’ve been proposing Youkilis for Santana as a fair swap. Same years on their contracts, same money involved. Angels would get depth at both first and third, and could minimize health issues by playing Youkilis 120-30 games and moving him around the corners.
It would mean the Angels would have to focus the offseason on starting pitching, getting two SPs instead of one, but that’s do-able. Buehrle would be a reasonable replacement for Santana.

Caveat
Callaspo wasn’t a full-time player, really, until 2009, so his WAR takes a bit of a hit just from lack of playing time.
Callaspo is a better fielder at 3B, and I don’t think that’s really debatable at this point. Curiously, he has been much better at 3B than the other infield positions. Youk obviously outslugs Callaspo by quite a bit, but he makes a LOT more money. I certainly wouldn’t trade a starting pitcher like Santana for the 2010-2011 edition of Youkilis, whose 2011 road #s are almost Mathisean (.191/.317/.349).

No Youklis,
with his back problems he is only going to hit the DL multiple times. And definitely not for Callaspo, not for Santana.
CONGER, CONGER, CONGER !!!
You'll have to admit that your argument is depending heavily on small sample sizes...
…that are out of whack with the dominant trends. See the original poster’s stats — I don’t want to reprint them.
This is a team that can sacrifice a bit on defense at this point to trade for offense. A relatively healthy Youkilis at third base is still a better defender than A-Ram or Wright at the position, and those the alternatives everyone is talking about. Wright would cost Santana and more, A-Ram too many years and too much money.

Agree
And please don’t even intimate that I ever suggested Wright or Aramis Ramirez as alternatives. I’d take the 2011 Callaspo over Ramirez in a heartbeat. Wright – will cost too much to acquire, relative to what he actually brings to the table.
I am very concerned, though, about Youkilis’ back.
Agreed
Youk is better than Callaspo. But when you consider their contracts, it is a fair deal. Not a likely one though, as I don’t see Boston as a team that will be looking to downgrade their payroll.
Santana? Please don’t. I like him too much. I’d hate to see him tainted by wearing a Red Sox uniform.

I'm not seeing it. One guaranteed year at $12M?
With a team option? C’mon — that’s as low risk as they come.
Such a swap might be fair if Youkilis had three years left on his contract, but this is one-time outlay — almost an Abreu/Matsui type of gamble.
Callaspo is one year removed from a miserable 85 OPS+ season (.265 /.302/.374), has put up a SLG% north of .375 once in his career, has no speed to maximize the potential value of his contact tendencies. He’s a glue guy — and a fine one — but has no real ceiling beyond that.
Youkilis’ ceiling is MVP, he averages 5 WAR per season, and some aberrant road tendencies across ‘10-11 aren’t enough dissuade me from believing in his value.
Interesting suggestion
In fact, if you combine your suggestion with cuscus85’s, you come up with:
Players:
Wells and Santana for Youkilis and Lackey
Dollars:
$63MM and $11MM for $12MM and $48MM
Ages:
33 and 29 for 33 and 33
Fangraphs WAR:
.3 and 3.2 for 3.7 and 1.5
Health
Excellent health for questionable health
Youkilis could be protection in case Mark Trumbo turns into Mike Jacobs, or Alberto Callaspo turns into Callaspo 2010, or if Abreu has to play LF because the kid struggles (and Kendrys is still on the treadmill).

Hate to say it but...
I’d take Youk.
As douchy and ugly as he is, he’s exactly the type of player the Angels need. A 3B with decent power who’s an OBP machine and a fiery, energetic personality.
I don’t see Boston realistically trading him though. Their IF is pretty rock solid outside of SS.

Love his offense
but aren’t they looking to move him because he can’t play 3rd base anymore? Isn’t that pretty much the only place he fits with us?

Youkilis is the player fans hate when he's on the opposing team
With a real GM at the helm (please be Andrew Friedman), working a trade for Youkilis would be a very good addition for the Halos.

I can't believe some of the comments I'm reading here
Youk would instantly become this team’s best hitter and that’s not even debatable. The only instance I could see Boston trading him is if they feel he can’t hang at third base anymore. Even then, he’d provide much more value than Trumbo and likely even Morales at first.
For Santana straight up? I’d have to think long and hard about that one. But as Turk suggests, if they can procure a similar starter on the market to replace Ervin, then it starts to make sense.
Your WRONG

He may be a bitch
but that bitch can hit. I don’t care if he’s swinging a dildo up there, if he gets on base 40% of the time I want him batting third for this team.
But really, outside of one idiot BoSux blogger, is there any indication anywhere that they’re interested in moving him? It’s not like there’s a bunch of great third basemen out there they could replace him with.
Youk For Trumbo Straight up.........Done
Finally we would have a real third baseman.
The ugly part doesn’t bother me, but watching him stroke his wooden flute every at bat does.
They have Adrian Gonzales - Trumbo does not help them
It would take a pitcher like Santana to get it done.
From Jeff Mathis' TOPPS card: "Jeff is a defensive catcher, but he can rake it when it counts." Jeff has a lifetime .199 MLB batting average
Here's the Thing
Youk was really upset when the Sox traded for Adrian Gonzalez. Youk is an average defensive 3B and is not an everyday 3B — the position takes a massive toll on his body. He cannot be counted on to be an everyday 3B.
If we could land him to be our primary 1B, giving him less than 50 games at 3B (and 3B for the postseason), it could workout.
8 years/$200 million
That’s what Pujols turned down from the Cards last offseason. Do you really think Arte wants to guarantee a player more than 50% more than he paid for the entire franchise?
