They did not.
He was a washout from West Point going to Cal Poly Pomona and majoring in Civil Engineering (David’s school and major) and about three weeks after they started dating, he got drunk, got in a fight and showed up the next day at her dorm with a black eye and a tattoo of a palm tree that a child could have done better.
It was not meant to be.
Other than that he really was a lot of fun, just not very bright. The in-laws she would have had made my head hurt.

The best part was when he and I went Christmas shopping together at the mall.
We went into the Victoria’s Secret perfume shop, and he wanted to know if Beth would like what he picked out. When the saleslady came over she gave the two of us the strangest look. It took until we were out of the store for him to say, “Oh, you don’t think she thought…. !”
I lost it at that point, just laughed so hard . I think he was a little afraid of me up until that moment.

I can’t remember the name of a quaint Italian place we ate at when I was there last summer. I always stay at the Best Western right around the corner from Hopyard on Owens, I think.

What I mean is,
we moved last year. I’m not sure where those photos are right now, other than “in a box somewhere”. Lots of boxes marked photographs, just have to locate the first one.
The only photo I think I have is their promo one, on a postcard.

There were two guys, too.
I couldn’t get the girls to let me put rhinestones or fringe or sequins on their outfits. They just wanted string bikinis and something to wear over them that they could take off. Dullest exotic dancers on the planet.
The first one wouldn’t tell me what the costumes were for the first time she came to talk to me.
The two guys, though, they knew it was all about the flashy stuff.

It was a seriously cool job.
Clients were so happy with me that they comped me to all sorts of stuff. Never saw the girls dance, I figured they weren’t very good from what I saw.
Saw some off-off-off Broadway shows that way, stuff that wasn’t ready for Peoria yet, did costuming for some cabaret shows, got mentions in the Chron for my work. We got opening game tickets to the Golden State Warriors’ game one year because I worked on the Warrior Girls’ opening costumes. Unfortunately they were the worst basketball team on the planet then, but they had just gotten Muggsy Bogues so he was fun to watch.

I really liked going into SF.
CV is on the West side of the Hayward hills, Pleasanton is on the East side of the same hills.
It rained more in CV, and we had so few sunny days that my daughters’ hair stopped being bright blond in a couple of years. The oldest one went to college at UC Irvine and within sixth months her hair was a bright color again.

It rained so much the first 4 months I lived there
I thought I’d never have dry feet again.
Out of the 9 years we had 6 or 7 that saw flooding all over the area. One neighborhood two blocks away had to be evacuated. The houses backed up to a creek and the creek was rising. The fire department pulled people out of a retirement home up the canyon, carried them out the front of the units as the mud rose against the sliding glass doors at the back.
We were fine, but our place was just in the right place I guess.
