The Baseball Writers Association of Buddies Hiring Buddies for Print Media Glam Positions or whatever their mumbly acronym stands for has awarded the 2011 American League Rookie of the Year Award to Jeremy Hellickson of the Tampa Bay Rays.
Angels 1B Mark Trumbo finished second in the voting. He had 5 first place votes and 63 points total but Hellickson's 17 first place votes belied any hope that the hometown Orange County kid really had. Overhyped Yankees Run Support Cushion Pitcher Ivan Nova garnered a first place East Coast Bias vote but finished fourth behind Kansas City Royals farm-product Eric "headline of hype" Hosmer.
The Seattle Mariners, still considered a major league club for purposes of awards voting, had the fifth and sixth place finishers: Michael Pineda and Dustin Ackley.
Angels All-Star closer Jordan Walden received one point with a single fifth place vote and tied Jason Jennings for 7th place in the award's final rankings.
Craig Kimbrel of the Atlanta Braves won the 4-A National League rookie of the Year award.

Tim Salmon remains the only Angels player to ever win the AL ROY. He did so for the 1993 campaign.
