i think that i would want more than just Hannigan for an All-Star closer who is dirt cheap

Alonso
While I like the prospect I just don’t see how he is a good fit.
1. Alonso, Trumbo, Cron and Kendrys can’t play 3B.
2. We have a glut of corner OF options as is (Hunter, Too Blessed To Be Stressed, Trout, Abreu).
Alonso only makes sense if the team thinks he is a 2 WAR+ upgrade over Trumbo. Trumbo only has 1 more year of service time, so this wouldn’t factor into the decision.
Also, considering our farm system is in desperate need of repair, I would rather sign Ramon Hernandez than trade for Hanigan despite Hanigan’s club friendly contract and being the superior, and younger, player.
How do you figure Trumbo only has one more year of service time?
Willits? Check. Reagins? Check. Waiting on Mathis
Those guys are weird
But I want Votto though.
What we've got here is a failure to communicate.

What would we want for Santana?
Maybe Bill Bray, Hanigan and and prospects?

Bray
Is a middling prospect who averages 91 on his FB who has two years of arbitration left before FA. Total pass.
Unless we could pick up Grandal or Mesoraco I don’t see a trade working out that wouldn’t admit the team was rebuilding.

Bill Brasky is a son of a bitch!
And a pretty decent Double A pitching prospect.

Flag'd
Trout for Votto and Hanigan is still a fleecing in the Red’s favor.
So I have this rock in the back yard that does nothing but sit there so I named it Juan Rivera.
I think you missed the operative word "crazy" in Turk's post
All I need are some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and I'm fine.
by Quad Fin Rider on Nov 23, 2011 8:11 PM PST up reply actions
Nonetheless, I still think it's crazy that fans EXPECT Trout to be better than Votto.
That’s loop-de-loop, over-the-moon crazy.
Recent top Angels prospects by their BA Prospect rating:
- Mike Trout
- Brandon Wood
- Casey Kotchman
- Dallas McPherson
- Howie Kendrick
- Jeff Mathis
All top-25 prospects pan out and should never be traded, and Trout, who profiles like a righthanded Grady Sizemore if he meets his power potential, is already more valuable than MVP Joey Votto.
That’s where a lot of fans are right now. Sorrow is our junk, hope our pope.
Weird -- my post was reformatted automagically.
(#2) Mike Trout
(#3) Brandon Wood
(#6) Casey Kotchman
(#12) Dallas McPherson
(#12) Howie Kendrick
(#22) Jeff Mathis
Considering their MLB Service Times
Trout is far, FAR more valuable than Votto. Quite frankly I don’t see how their is even a debate. Even if Trout “only” averages a .330 woba during his years of club control (Bill James projects a ridiculous .374 woba for Trout in 2012) his defense at CF more than compensates.
Trout for Votto would make the Wells for Napoli trade look acceptable in comparison.

I don't agree
While I wouldn’t pull the trigger on the trade, Trout hasn’t proven anything yet (although he still has plenty of time to learn from Mickey). Votto is a former MVP, bats lefthanded, and is still in his prime. Trout may be more valuable, but I think it’s much closer than you give credit for.

If we are being crazy then how about Kendrick and Abreu and Van Mil for Hanigan, Phillips and a prospect
Votto is untouchable but they Are having negotiating issues with BP and we can tell em Van Mil is just like chapman but taller
by Jesse Heiman on Nov 24, 2011 10:33 AM PST up reply actions
We left Van Mil Off the 40 Man
I doubt he has much, if any, trade value as such.
by YouthofToday on Nov 25, 2011 1:41 PM PST up reply actions
Votto has mental health issues
He also has been rumored to be sitting on the side of a highway with a sign that reads “Toronto or bust.”
Willits? Check. Reagins? Check. Waiting on Mathis

Just sign Hernandez and be done with it
Let Hernandez mentor Conger and split catching duties in 2012. Hope that Conger is ready to start in 2013.
It makes no sense to trade prospects unless Dipoto envisions Hanigan as the starting catcher for at least two or three seasons.
From Jeff Mathis' TOPPS card: "Jeff is a defensive catcher, but he can rake it when it counts." Jeff has a lifetime .199 MLB batting average

But can Hernandez catch aces? I thought there was only one mere mortal on this planet who can manage such a feat!

How do we know Conger isn't ready?
Hank was never given the opportunity to show if he is ready or not for a full-time gig behind the plate. I think we all know if Hernandez is brought in, Hank will not be given the opportunity again next season.

That is all I have to say about the trade proposals over there.
Haren? Really.

Just sign Ramon Hernandez. Dump Mathis. No need to trade for Hanigan.

+1
Conger still may be the catcher of the future for us. Why trade for another young catcher unless there is no confidence in him/Conger? Hernandez seems like the better option as all he will cost is cash.
Life is short, enjoy the ride.
I agree ....
it makes it seem that we have given up on King Conger. Signing Harnandez (to replace Mathis) makes sense.
If we have given up on Hank, I wouldn’t mind trading Bell or Reckling for Haningan or Mesoraco. It appears to be dealing from each of our strengths.
The big three are obviously close to untouchable. I don’t see other trades working out, because they don’t fill a need for us.
You're just as nuts as they are
To believe Bell or Reckling would land Mesoraco. Mesoraco is an excellent prospect that would require a package with a starting point of Santana.
by Howie the Halo on Nov 25, 2011 8:53 PM PST up reply actions
I agree that Bell or Reckling is too little, but Santana is too much
But he would require at least 2 good, high level prospects – Ariel Pena and one of Bell/Richards/Chatwood. Maybe throw in Reckling since he might need a change of scenery.
