Justin Verlander is SBNation's Pitcher of the Year
Despite whining like a fat girl denied her twelfth popsicle over a legitimate attempt by Erick Aybar to win a close game with a bunt hit, Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander won SB Nation's Pitcher of the Year award in a vote by SBN's American League baseball bloggers. Angels pitchers Jered Weaver and Dan Haren placed 3rd and 6th respectively. Results after the jump...
Point totals by position are: 7-4-3-2-1

what a load of crap
Weaver was twice the pitcher Sabathia was. Then again, he’s not a yankee

Yes 2 Weavers = 1 CC
The man is huge. Can we leave his weight alone?!

probably both yankee writers
They don’t realize there are 26 other teams…them, who they are playing. Red sox and who they are playing.

Verlander must be thrilled to win an SBN award
“It’s a Major Award. I won it!”

All I need are some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and I'm fine.

If there are 24 total votes (since that's how many Verlander has total.)
Then 5 people didn’t put Weaver in their top 5.
That seems worse than him being behind CC, to me.

This is exactly right
Looks like SBN is getting as prolific as the Baseball Writer’s Association if there are 5 voters who think Weaver wasn’t a Top 3 pitcher.
WINS DO NOT MAKE A BETTER PITCHER!!.....FELIX HERNANDEZ & FERNANDO VENEZUELA 13 WINS EACH!! WOW!
Justin Verlander has 15 starts giving up at least 3 or more runs! & 6 starts giving up 4 or more.
Jered Weaver only has 9 starts giving up 3 or more.
Verlander has 19 starts with 2 or less runs, while Weaver has 24 STARTS with 2 or less runs!
24 out of 33! or 19 out of 34?
Verlander puts up 3.29 in 49.2 innings against the 4 teams + boston that made the playoffs (This doesnt include verlander’s 20 innings in the postseason that he posted a 5.31 era, it would = 3.85 in 70 inn.)
Weaver put up 3.03 era in 77 innings against those same teams!
Weav faced New York and Texas top 2 hitting teams 7 times! Verlander, 3 times
Verlander pitches behind the 3rd best offense & best setup/closer roles in ALL of baseball and gets 7 WINS after allowing 3 or more runs
Weaver pitches infront of a below average offense ranked #15 & a rookie closer and gets a total of ONE win after allowing 3 or more runs!!
Weaver pitched 3 days rest twice(once after jet-lag from grandfathers funeral) and helped push Angels offense for a post-season run…
Bottom line is that Verlander was overhyped after his no hitter to a team that was in a hitting slump missing its 2 best hitters(Batistsa and Lind)…so that no-no combined with an offense that provided 24 wins with a great pitcher gives us a pretty good gimmick for cy-young…but after looking at the stats Weaver totally outpitched in clutch situations against BETTER teams. Verlander may have more IP, but that can be said only because his manager thinks he is the greatest thing ever to come out of baseball.
Sabathia getting 2nd in vote is a pure joke…this is the reason why SBNation is without a doubt biased and doesn’t look past the media outlook of an even more biased ESPN to make their decisions.

Oh I get it now ...
this was a vote for the best American League pitchers, not for the ones in the bush league.
