So glad they signed Jerome!
I think he deserves a shot after his performance last year.
Tim Salmon: The once and future Kingfish.
Def. happy about Williams being signed.
Looking for them to focus on signing those guys that are arb. eligible now
Time for Dipoto to use his JeDi powers
Cassevah, Callaspo, Trumbo, Jerome Williams for Hanley and Josh Johnson.
Those are the droids you’re looking for, Miami.

Got to make it even, you know?

Nice to sign Jerome
He’s such a good story and pitched well last year. He could end up being a great pick from the scrap heap and really help this club.
Good for Jerome.
But I wonder how long the magic will last. At least there is little pressure on his spot in the rotation.
If he can eat innings and avoid walking guys he'll make a serviceable #5

Trading For Hanley
Definitely sounds interesting…Maybe an Erick Aybar, Ervin Santana, and prospects package could work? Don’t want to give up Howie though and I bet the Marlins will only want Mike Trout.
Marlins just signed Jose Reyes
So I don’t think they’d want Aybar. Hanley would be a great addition, but we’re going to have to give up somebody. (Probably Santana or Howie)
I bet a package of Santana, Callaspo/Howie, and a prospect would do it but
the problem with that (besides his attitude) is the same problem he has in Miami: We’d want him to play 3rd base!
Even if he would play 3rd for us, it’s not a great idea unless we could also trade Trumbo and Abreu for a solid pitcher to replace Ervin.

Hanley
This would have to be a 3 team trade because the Marlins don’t want Aybar but we still have to move him in order to make room for Hanley.
It could happen but we would be left without a 3rd baseman.

I would definitely try to get Ramirez. His trade value is not as high as it used to be. Not his best season this year, hurt shoulder. I would try the only thing would be where to put him. Aybar is a GG SS so I don’t know. Only reason why I’d try to get him is cause his bat…tell me that would not be a nice addition!

3 way trade
Brewers need to upgrade at 1B and SS.
Marlins need a 3B and want more SP.
Aybar, Trumbo, and Volstad to the Brewers
Randy Wolf and Casey McGhee to the Marlins
Hanley to the Angels.

Trumbo hit 29 home runs.
With Morales still a big question mark and Pujols playing 1B, Trumbo is the perfect choice for DH. Don’t trade him!
A wise man does not need advice and a fool won't take it.
Abreu's trade value is a fraction of Trumbo's
by lightupthehalo29 on Dec 12, 2011 4:50 PM PST up reply actions
Abreu has negative trade value
Unless the Angels eat a large chunk of the salary.
I have lots of secret weapons! -- Voodoo
this is what I meant
I think people are unaware that Trumbo and Abreu had equal oWAR in 2011(both 1.8). So either would be a suitable DH. But unlike Abreu, Trumbo has more trade value because of his youth, affordability, and defense(with respect to Abreu).

it seems light from the Marlins perspective. Also...
the Brewers just signed Aramis Ramirez and they have Mat Gamel who they seem confident in

Yeah, I thought about having us give the Marlins Santana
and we take Wolf. Slightly more value I think for them.

That return would be abysmal for the Marlins
Wolf and McGehee…not a chance that gets it done for them.

I love this
I love that it keeps Garret Richards in AAA, call him up in the even of an injury, dont let him get ruined by bad starts when hes too young…… His time will come if Williams pulls a pineiro on us…..
When I flip a coin I dont say heads or tails, I say Halos or Spurs
Although
I wouldnt have minded signing Mel Clark to a 1 year contract to be our fifth starter….. maybe we can sign him to a one pitch contract in the playoffs, I hear hes got one pitch left
When I flip a coin I dont say heads or tails, I say Halos or Spurs

I can’t prove it but I feel like SLC has a negative effect on our pitchers development.

I like Richards alot
But as long as Cassevah performs as a long reliever and we have hawkins, downs and walden i cant see a place for richards in our BP and I would rather him pitching that sitting in our BP

Maybe, if we did not have a lefty. But CJ filled that bill.
So I’ll stick with Williams. Oh, and did you hear? He is cheap.
A wise man does not need advice and a fool won't take it.
5th starter
There is always room for another lefty. hopefully Jerome Williams will work out.
They officially just tendered Morales
They just might have someone batting behind Albert. Hopefully he’s healthy. Hunter batting 4th worries me.

love this move.. morales can be an MVP type player....
the only good thing about Trumbo is that he’s cheap and has power but his OBP stinks.

Williams has bee absolutely insane in the winter league so far this year, I'm insanely glad we locked him up for this year
Bill Plunkett
Between indy ball, PCL, #Angels, VZ winter ball, Jerome Williams was 22-2 w/ 3.10 ERA in 206 1/3 IP in calendar yr 2011. Only losses in SLC
Tom DeCenso
J. Williams, 2011: 6 GS w/ #angels; 2.31 era (4-0, 39ip-10er, 1.154whip)…5-0 w/ 1.00 era in six GS in WIN-VZ…3.91era & 1.2whip in aaa.
I’d say Mr. Williams has more than earned the 5th starter spot for now.
Haha
if y’all acquired Hanley…. sheesh.
Anyway, thanks for taking Pujols out of the NL Central, much appreciated.
Any info on what the Angels may do with Morales? The Pirates could use a first baseman and Kendry seems like a candidate that’s as good as any. Any clue as to what the Angels would be looking for in return?
by McCutchenIsTheTruth on Dec 12, 2011 11:14 PM PST reply actions
I doubt the pirates value Morales as highly as they would Trumbo
what did you have in mind for a trade?
go long with extenze...i do
by angelsownredsux on Dec 12, 2011 11:24 PM PST up reply actions
I'm not sure
No offense, but Trumbo’s BB:K rate makes me cringe. I’d be fairly upset if the Pirates gave up much for him.
On Morales, he has 2 years of control left, but the injury history.. Kyle McPherson and a C/C+ prospect, like Dan Grovatt or Andrew Maggi? That may be a bit low. Not sure. Hard to gauge Morales’s value.
by McCutchenIsTheTruth on Dec 13, 2011 12:26 AM PST up reply actions
I don't see the Angels receiving fair value for Morales...
so I can’t think of a reasonable trade offer for him. What 2012 spects would you trade if this were the 2010 offseason?
go long with extenze...i do
by angelsownredsux on Dec 13, 2011 11:04 AM PST up reply actions
That slightly confuses me
Are you asking me what I would trade out of prospects this year for a pre-injury Morales?
If he still only has 2 years of control, I’d probably give Robbie Grossman, Jeff Locke, and Brock Holt maybe. That’s two top 10 prospects and a top 30 guy with some upside since he can play up the middle.
by McCutchenIsTheTruth on Dec 13, 2011 11:07 AM PST up reply actions
yes pre injury Morales
interesting offer but I think I would rather maintain Morales and his two years of control in that scenario
go long with extenze...i do
by angelsownredsux on Dec 13, 2011 11:12 AM PST up reply actions
Ya
it would probably take a bit more.
Grossman, Locke, and Colton Cain? Cain’s a top 15 guy with upside. 7 figure bonus coming out of high school. Could be a #2 starter if things come together.
