Making the Mathis Bet
Has the Pujols hangover worn off yet? Yeah, not for me either. Apparently, not for our FO as well since they've been silent since the big deal. We'll give them a break, though. After all it IS the holidays.
However, because of the slow news days weeks, I decided to get HH's opinion on a bet I made recently with a friend.
The Background:
During an overjoyed conversation online with a fellow longtime Halos fan after the Mathis trade, one of us made a joke about how Mathis will turn into the next Napoli in Toronto. Obviously, neither of this think this will happen. However, the question does arise: Will Mathis at least bat over .200 for the first time since 2009?
The Bet:
I asked my friend what he thought about Mathis batting over .200 and he said, "NO WAY." I, on the other hand, think Mathis will make it over the Mathis-line Mendoza Line. So I put 50 bucks on ole Premium that he would, indeed, bat over .200. My buddy took that bet.
The Details:
There is no AB limit. And no injury clause. However, Mathis has to be at least on the Blue Jays 40-man roster by the end of the bet. So if he gets traded or the more likely released, I lose.
SO, what's your opinion? I have no real reason for believing in Mathis. Rogers Centre is a better hitters park, right? I also, imagine he won't get as many ABs as he did as a Halo but that could hurt me as much as it could help me. Being out from under Mickey Hatcher? I dunno. Fresh starts can be good for a dude and for once in my life, I thought it would be fun/weird/strange...to actually ROOT for Mathis.

Mathis average has declined the last couple of years, a huge bounce back for him would be .190 Unless of course Lyle Spencer becomes Mathis “super secret” batting coach during the off season.

Mathis is an old dog, and old dogs do not learn new tricks.
Napoli at least could hit before he was banished from Anaheim by fatty.

He will bat 1.000 for the season
He’ll get into the first game of the season, hit a bloop behind first-base that the hometown scorer will give him a single on. As Mathis reaches first base, he will have the dreaded season-ending groin pull.
1 AB. 1 Hit.
The legend of Mathis grows.

Fun bet, one I'll follow throughout the season
It’s a coin flp propostion, especially due to the limited number of at bats he is likely to receive.
There should be a parlay about whether Mathis will even be on the Jays in September

Well, it's more of a set of guidelines than a code.
If the Halos don't care about the way they play, then why should I?
That's apart of the rules. He's gotta be on the 40 man roster for the entire season.

Two things:
1) I don’t get polls that give people an out vote that does nothing to conclude the entire point of the poll. If there is always a “yes” “no” or “LOL BONERS ARE HILARIOUS” type options then your poll is pointless.
However, boners ARE hilarious.
2) Yeah, .190 to .200 is like one more hit every two weeks, with less playing (more optimal, probably) time in a friendlier hitting park is not unreasonable.
I brought sexy back, but they only gave me store credit....

I hope that Mathis is incredibly successful wherever and whatever he does
I gain no sense of satisfaction that he fails elsewhere. He did not seem to be a bad person. He merely was terrible for us and I’m glad he’s gone. If winds up tearing the Rogers Center a new one, well, good for him.
What he does elsewhere makes no difference to me; I am just glad he no longer plays for my team.
