Cousin Oliver close to signing with the Jays
Another blow to Washington's pen. Maybe the stRangers will get Mathis in return, instead of draft picks.

It's a done deal
Just pending the physical, one year plus option. Good for Ollie.

Too bad.
I wish we could have worked something out.
Oliver is nails and I always like seeing him with a Halo.
In the long run men hit only what they aim at. Therefore, though they should fail immediately, they had better aim at something high.

The most under-rated reliever in the game.
Now I can root for him again.

Maybe the $ amount was significantly better in Toronto.

speaking of which....
why did Will Clark retire? His last year was one of his best, it was his best in terms of unadjusted OPS. I’m assuming it was injuries.
Jim Bowden on Tony Reagins.
Style: Authoritative, brilliant baseball mind who works well in the trifecta with owner Arte Moreno and manager Mike Scioscia. Builds teams on pitching and defense up the middle. Active at trade deadlines, will trade prospects and has the resources to acquire All-Stars
He lives in Texas.
It sounded like he was going to retire with Texas when he signed with them. Guess not.

The story was that TX couldn't commit until Darvish is settled
That’s kind of interesting to me (if true), because if Texas has the play money on hand to chase after Darvish (and potentially commit over $100M for a 5-6 year contract), then I don’t see how a $2M deal for Oliver would have to be backburnered until the Darvish situation is concluded, one way or the other.
Unless it is about the roster spot and not the money itself, it seems weird that Oliver couldn’t negotiate with the Rangers now.

If that's the case, I hope Madson finds a home soon.
If they were pursuing Bailey as aggressively as they did, they must be looking for an upgrade at closer. It may be the case that Bailey was an exception because he is much more cost effective than any other option via free agency. Either way, I hope their aggressiveness ends with Darvish.

I am surprised Toronto is willing to surrender a #1 draft pick for a middle reliever
I wonder if AA actually thinks they are going to compete this year.

They didn't give up a draft pick for him with the modified FA compensation.
Texas does get a supplemental round draft pick though.
Correct
Texas does still get a supplemental round pick for him – probably a selection in the mid-50’s of the draft.
I reject your reality and substitute my own.
AARP called they want there closer
The neighbor is a cranky irish expat. He if wanted no snakes, he shoulda stayed in Ireland.

Also Carlos Quentin now has a lot more center field to fly out to
He’s now a Padre
Arsenal FC ~ Middlesex CCC ~ Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim
I was gonna say this.
He obviously wants some magic CERA dust!
If the Halos don't care about the way they play, then why should I?
