Moreno's Franchise-Altering Move
Who is Ramona Shelburne, anyway?
Three weeks ago, Ramona wrote this. I was so busy with all the other media frenzy, I missed it.
Great article. Loved the info regarding Carole Moreno. This makes my heart flutter all over again.

She's the reporter who was booed for her question at the press conference
"The contract is brought up a lot. What it's going to take to get past it is winning. This organization took on the contract. I'm here to make them look good."~Vernon Wells

Something along the lines of...
how long term contracts have a tendency to backfire and was there any concern they would end up regretting the deal….
It was an insanely stupid question given the occasion/mood of the press conference.

Surprise, the folks there booed for....
speaking the truth…
This deal is going to be a bitch in years 7-10.
How does this team win with this offense? Hey, anyone....DRAW A WALK!!!

Nonsense
Her question was tantamount to asking a newly-married couple at their wedding reception if they were concerned about the high rate of divorce..
EVERYBODY knows that Pujols will be a lesser player at 41 than at 31. Why not use that opportunity to ask a genuinely thoughtful question?

I get that. Not the right place or time...
But – still the truth.

There is certainly a whole lot more history on your side of the truth, Jim.
But there is some history suggesting that Pujols will continue to be productive throughout the length of the contract.
Winning doesn't matter. -Lyle
And thus, so what?
If we assume everyone on that dais and in the audience believed that Puljols will be a lesser player in the back half of the contract than in the first half (since it is, as you claim, “the truth”), what particular insight could the question provoke?
None. I think that, as much as anything, was the reason for the booing. The question was so incredibly sophomoric that it sounded like something to be asked on Angel Talk by Stan from La Mirada, not to be posed by an allegedly professional sports journalist.
She had one opportunity to ask a question of all assembled for this press conference, and she wasted it on the equivalent of “boxers or briefs?” or “what’s your favorite flavor of ice cream?”
On the other hand, since she is employed by ESPN, diminished expectations are probably in order.

Dick in Whittier wouldn't have even asked that question.

I remember her question....and I remember the boos I heard, and the angst I felt.
The article says that it was updated at 11:08 P.M., EST, on Dec. 10. Maybe she had time to ruminate on the tone of her article after “feeling” the boos, researching the true meaning of the events, and re-evaluating her position as sports writer for ESPNLA.
I was there.
And I booed. Her question at the time was in complete Debbie Downer mode. Right up there with all the reporters that couldn’t leave the St Louis questions alone.
YOU DON'T KNOW THE POWER OF THE DARKSIDE.....
I wish I had this sound effect during the press conference red.
And congrats on being nominated for best poster, sadly, I didn’t make the cut. To borrow a line from our doyer brethren up the I-5, there’s always next year.

The lady's question was obviously a deliberate attempt to embarrass the Angels,
probably calculating that it would be perceived as edgy, first-rate “journalism” by her employers at ESPN (ABC/Disney) and fellow beat writers.
The tone of the final article, in no way matches the tone and intent of her question at the press conference.
