Peter Bourjos Appears to Be Safe
A heartening article from Washington on the Angels commitment to Fleet Pete:
Despite speculation around the game that Trout's arrival will squeeze out Bourjos, the Angels view Trout as more of a corner outfielder than a center fielder, according to the source. The club is strongly committed to Bourjos as its long-term answer in center field, believing he'll win multiple Gold Gloves during his career and make strides at the plate.

Sigh of relief......
for the Halos future perennial gold glover;)
I feel like all this recent news is too good to be true
but I’ll still soak in it like a warm bath…full of hot naked women.

I hope this "perennial gold glover" thing doesn't become like the "Howie the future batting champ" thing
and this bluster about Pete getting traded seems like it was probably little more than wishful thinking on the part of the other clubs.
Difference is
Pete has already been supplying Gold Glove caliber defense in Center. It’s not something he needs to grow into, it’s something he needs to keep doing.

Good news
Pete will probably earn a few Gold Gloves, they will just be awarded to somebody in the AL East.

Unfortunately, you are probably right on target.
That makes sense
It’s a hitting award

You're right, they'd need a 3B and could use a SP or CF
Then what about Peter, Callaspo, and a minor leaguer (not Trout) for Hanley,
or
Santana, Callaspo, and a minor leaguer (not Trout) for Hanley?
Of course then we would want him to play 3B too, so his problem continues!
Such bad ideas!

Why?
Beacause you couldn’t bear to part with those players or you don’t think it would be enough to get him?
He isnt worth those players.
He is a poor defending shortstop with bad attitude who already told his team he doesnt want to play 3rd. If we wanted a a poor defending 3rd baseman we could get one from the FA market without knocking out our most effective major leaguers.

I'm sure if you asked Marlin fans they'd say the opposite.
They would say that’s not nearly enough in return for a player like Hanley. They expect something on the level of Lincicum or Felix Hernandez in return.
Everyone always values their own players more.
Its kind of hard not to at least consider it.
Hanley could improve the offense of this team. But Peter and his defense is extremely valuable.

I blog about the Angels at First2Third.net
I think that would be a major downgrade
in overall defense on the field while upgrading the offense.
Very interesting offer but giving up two solid defenders with some offense themselves is risky and don’t think I could pull the trigger on this deal.

Hanley is a dick
Aybar’s character alone makes him more desireable. One thing I have always loved about this team is that they have a reputation for not selling their souls for a couple of extra wins. (I’m at work and can’t sneak onto BaseballReference but I have to imagine that Petey + Aybar = more WAR than Hanely. I could be wrong though).
Plus, I was there when they clinched the division in 2009 and Aybar was running around like an idiot and hosed down the crowd. That was awesome. I love that guy.

WAR
Fleet Pete’s 2011 WAR is 5.0
The Admiral’s 2011 WAR is 4.7
But it’s unfair to use Hanley’s since he was injured. It was 0.5 for 2011 and over the previous 5 seasons he’s had an avg WAR of 5.8 (from 2006 to 2010).
So if you ignore last year and just use Hanley's previous year
their combined WAR is greater than Hanley’s.
THIS… IS… ANAHEIM!!
Hanley is a terrible defensive SS and a bitch

The difference between Howie and the Pebo is night and day.
Based upon real statistical data, Peter has probably already earned a couple of gold glovers. Howie on the other hand, is still searching for his holy grail
Nah. He's fat and crazy.

The Angels set the defensive bar way too high IMO
the Angels view Trout as more of a corner outfielder than a center fielder
Trout is a plus defender in CF by all accounts except the Angels org. And in most orgs Conger gets the chance to be the everyday catcher. ugh
go long with extenze...i do
Well, the Angels have the luxury
of having Bourjos. I don’t think the bar is set high. It’s just that there’s a better defensive player on the team and he’s also part of their future, that’s all.
Trout has no arm
Hard to be a good centerfielder without a throwing arm. Particularly if the BEST DEFENSIVE CENTERFIELDER IN BASEBALL is under cheap team control for a half decade.
Trouts arm does not pass the eye ball test
Or the smell test
Or the “lets see if you can throw a baseball without looking like a little girl” test
I brought sexy back, but they only gave me store credit....
Bourjos
Mattweich is so right that Pete is the best center fielder around. Speed, super arm, and still learning. Pete would be untouchable to me. Trout will do very well to be as good as Pete.
I read that it is near impossible for a major leauguer to
improve their swing. But Pete did it. in streaks, but towards the end of the year he was en fuego.
Unlike this cat, my love for the LAA will never die.
Peter Bourjos appears to be safe... but the umpire calls him out anyways after PED-roid-a complains.
If the Halos don't care about the way they play, then why should I?
