God I hated him as an Angel....
Really, that’s when we started to see the desperation of the FO.
The Torii signing has worked out better than anyone would have guessed, really. We dodged that bullet.
But since then? Icky FA signings.
RIP Nick...

i am not paying
i did not sign him
Meet up for Angels vs. A's Doubleheader Saturday, Jul 16, 2011
Let me know I am Tailgating it up good.
That's almost as insane as vernon wells making more than any MLB player not named a-rod for 2011.
What do you need a fancy suit for, Charlie, you ain't got no job to wear it to.
Why disturb him when he's obviously with Stoneman in Zijuantenejo restoring
old boats on the sand. Those two pulled off a caper to end all capers.
the horror ............... the horror .......... the horror
Nice subject for the next WiHalofan comic…
Stoneman and GMJ in The Katella-shank Redemption.
I love this team.

One of the best movies ever...
and I went to Katella for a semester.
Looking back, I thought anyone would’ve signed GMJ and wondered how we did it. I was surprised when the juicin’ came out before he ever took a swing for us. Now, I’m assuming Sarge was guaranteed regardless so we rolled with him. He was rock solid for Texas the year before…who wouldn’t have signed him? Didn’t know about the 2003 tests then….sigh

"who wouldn't have signed him?"
Anyone that looked at his career numbers and even the road stats of his career year.
"I’m not really concerned about the Bill Jameses and the sabermetric people." --- Tony Reagins
"No sh*t" --- Collective response on HH
And if GMJ gets a ring, I will start believing all those 2012 stories.
"I'm not really concerned about the Bill Jameses and the sabremetric people..." - Tony Reagins
GMJ was the last gasp of Bill Stoneman
Look at it this way. Yeah we’re still paying him, but it didn’t cost us any prospects, the real reason Stoneman paid so much to sign him. He didn’t have to gut the farm system to acquire a player (for better or for worse). As Dad of Vlad says above, “I’m not paying him.” GMJ was the last major acquisition of Stoneman’s regime, the one that notoriously hoarded prospects and was almost impossibly finicky to try and trade with.
Furthermore, up until rather recently, we were hailing Tony Reagins for his well earned moniker of The Ninja. Who here on HH doesn’t remember the shock, surprise, and joy back in ‘08 when they learned that we’d acquired Teixiera? And Kazmir was great for us until the postseason.
At least we won’t be watching S-Rod play next year and know that he was the price we paid for a player like GMJ (Kaz can still rebound!). We the fans pay for Reagin’s trades, for better or for worse through our pain and angst watching our former prospects flourish elsewhere…
out of curiousity
Do you know who that ended up being? I mean the point I was trying to make was that Stoneman was allergic to trading anyone currently in the system.
Didn't the Giants offer GMJ a 5 yr $50 mil contract first?
and the Angels had to match that offer to get him? Thought I remembered that’s how it happened. Obviously we should have let them have him. If that’s the case then they could have had GMJ and Zito!
Just remember, GMJ saved our bacon in 2009 when Torii had that little.... disagreement... with the wall in AT&T Park

i'd like a definition of "flourish"

Flourish
1. To grow well or luxuriantly; thrive: The crops flourished in the rich soil.
2. To do or fare well; prosper: “No village on the railroad failed to flourish”
3. To be in a period of highest productivity, excellence, or influence: a poet who flourished in the tenth century.
4. To make bold, sweeping movements: The banner flourished in the wind.
The ESPN highlight reel publicity of "The Catch" in Arlington made GMJ, PERIOD!
Not to mention hitting .320 in that one-hit wonder of a year. GMJ — the Billy Ray Cyrus/Falco/999 of baseball!
the horror ............... the horror .......... the horror
You had to include 999 in your examples, though Homicide was the only hit here
in England they had more air play with such hits as Emergency, Nasty Nasty, Titanic Reaction, Feelin Alright with the Crew, etc., etc. Falco did have 2 hits here until he was run over by a car.

Der Komissar was hit by a car?
the horror ............... the horror .......... the horror
While on vacation, or "holiday" as he would probably describe it
I’ve heard a couple of different versions of how it happened, one says he was in a crosswalk, another he was jaywalking and popped out between some parked cars, another has him somewhat drunk and walking out to cross the street talking and not paying attention and he gets hit by a car. But yes, pedestrian vs. car, car wins.

Hope the Phillies sign him
and take on about half his salary too.
A wise man does not need advice and a fool won't take it.
They wouldn't have to
He was traded by us and then released from his contract by the Mets and Reds. He’s a free agent who is still owed money under a prior deal.
