Rare/weird Jake Peavy injury update
Peavy still recovering from freak injury and subsequent never-before-attempted surgery.
I remember when this happened against us last year. I always hate watching the slo-mo injury replays, but this one didn't seem so bad initially....until you notice tendon/muscle/something gross moving up and down his back.
He always seemed like a good guy; hope he has a speedy recovery.

Yeah, you joke about a pitcher's arm falling off...
Then you recoil in horror when you actually see it happen.

NOTE: THE ABOVE IS NOT A JOKE.
I was shocked by what happened to Peavy.

Two words: Dave Dravecky.
I get all squeamish just typing that name.

Candidate for Comeback Player of the Year
Good luck with your comeback Jake! My memory of Peavy is his being a good hitting pitcher. Yes, he only has a .180 lifetime batting average. However, twice I saw Peavy have a two rbi game. On 4/19/2007 I saw Peavy hit his only major league triple. Stretching out the triple gassed Peavy and he was hit hard the next inning and replaced. He still received the win in that game versus Arizona.
I was at the Phillies @ Dodgers 8/8/2004 game in which Brad Penny had a similar injury (a 40% tear—not complete tear—of the same muscle) on a precautionary warm up pitch. Penny lasted 13 pitches and retired only two batters but suffered the loss because he gave up a solo home to Chase Utley. I recall a 9/7/1972 (1st game of dh) Reds @ Padres game that Gary Nolan got saddled with a loss after exiting the game after giving up just one run in one inning—a solo home run by Leron Lee. I don’t think Nolan had the same injury as Penny and Peavy. But he did have a tough luck short outing. Nolan missed most of 1973 and all of 1974. I suspect that game in San Diego was when his major injury occurred. Penny and Nolan made it back. May Peavy do so as well. I mentioned in a recent post that Penny started 2-9 at games I went to before improving to 4-9. Nolan finished 2-1 in games I attended including a two-hit shutout at Chavez Ravine in the Dodgers 4/7/1970 season opener (the Reds opened at home a day earlier). Jake Peavy is 7-3 in games I went to. All of those games were when Peavy was a Padre. Hang in there Jake!
I love Peavy, even though I loathe the White Sox.
I’m pulling for him.
