Mike Napoli To Face His Old Team for First Time Tonight
Naps is catching CJ Wilson in tonight's match. Napoli is quoted that he "wants to put a sour taste in the Angels' mouths."
Napoli is batting .286, with three home runs in 21 at bats this season.

Thanks
I’m guessing Mathis gets the start because Wilson is a southpaw.
With Harrison throwing the final game, we may only see Conger tomorrow night. How unfortunate.

Conger has same BA, same number plate apperances, one less home run than Napoli. Interesting.
Both teams have .666 winning percentage. The mark of the devil. Is something really evil going to happen tonight?
"It's our money," owner Arte Moreno said.
dun dun DUUUUNNNNN
Driven into right-center field, Erstad says he has it...the Angels, world champions!
but Conger is 100% catcher
Napoli is 50% catcher this year, and last year was essentially a 1B.
i think its Trumbo that re[placed him in the line-up and roster in 2011.
Isn't this the job of Trumbo?
After all, Napoli was just standing in for Kendrys after he wasn’t good enough to catch.
Rec’d though
After months of lament at his departure, it becomes real tonight: he is the enemy.
He must be destroyed.

Too late
We’ve already drawn some seriously sour water from the Well. And it’s not going to get much sweeter.
"Mike Scioscia?! Didn't you get radiation poisoning?"
"I sure did. And it gave me super managing powers!"
Now he's threatening to throw runners out?
HA! Sure, bro, whatever you say.

To be fair
our base running is going to give him easy outs. Bonehead mistakes FTL

If I said that about Wells, I'd be a racist.

1977
Bobby Bonds had 37 HRs. Tanana & Ryan also had monster years.
We finished 5th in the AL West.
I have fonder recollections of the Molina brothers and their rings in 2002 than some one who led a 3rd place team in HRs.
Were Bonds, Tanana & Ryan responsible for that 3rd place finish or were the shitty players on team responsible for it?
Pollyanna is dead. But don't get mad at me, I didn't kill her. Tony Reagins did.
clubhouse chemistry?
certainly just by numbers no one can argue that point.
but maybe there are analogies and despite his #’s, maybe Bonds has some responsibility for the 1977 5th place finish.
First, despite having a monster year (a much better season than Napoii’s 2010), like Napoli, Bonds was essentially jettisoned …….. to the ChiSox (for Knapp, Frost, and and unproven Downing).
By written accounts, Bonds was a surly clubhouse cancer in 1977 and then lasted just 26 games for Chicago before they traded him. He played for 5 teams the 4 years after the Angels.
I can’t blame 1977 on Bonds nor 2010 on Napoli, but neither seem to have contributed to a positive clubhouse either, and despite some good worthwhile offense, management didn’t want either around. I don’t want to disparge either, and Napoli was a key part of some good AL West pennant teams in the last few years.
But it was too easy to snark at that .233 BA last year and then wanted to point out how memorable Bonds 1977 team was to the Halo faithful, and there’s always more to the game than just HRs.
The 1977 Angels got all of 48 homers from C/1B/2B/SS/3B/CF
The non-Ryan/Tanana starters went 24-42. I don’t discount chemistry, but Bonds was so far and away the best position player on that team it’s not funny. The problem with that team is Bobby Grich got hurt, the team stupidly traded Bruce Bochte, and otherwise they surrounded three All-Stars with about 20 limp bodies.
And it wasn’t like we dumped Bonds — we got Chris Knapp, Dave Frost, and a cat named Brian Downing out of that deal.
I wonder what the manwhore is going to put in our mouths.

I want Napoli as an individual player to do well tonight.
But, I want the Angels to win the game.

I hope he hits a trio
of meaningless homers off of the Halos tonight. I like him and wish him the best. It would have been a lot easier to root for him if he played for Toronto…

Signal Calling
Speaking of catchers … I caught a few minutes of Haren’s start over the weekend, and noticed that Mathis was looking in to the dugout for all his signals. At the time I was watching, there was a runner on first, so I’m not sure if this was happening all game or not. Can anyone say? It seems rather odd for the manager to be calling the game for a veteran pitcher, especially one who threw a one-hit CG shoutout in his last start.
The manager does not generally call pitches.
The manager signals to the catcher when he wants a pitch-out, throw to first, step off the mound, etc.

Naps should shut his face.
God. How crap is your team when someone has to crow about “team leading 26 home runs” to stand up for a guy? All that proves is we were crap last year. And 233…. that Chad Krueter like average only looks good when it’s competition is Mathis. He’s a catcher that can’t catch or throw. All he has to point to is his Jorge Cantu like 26 dingers. You are the “catcher” who couldn’t beat out Jeff Mathis, playing on one of the only teams in baseball, the 2010 Angels, where 26 home runs is a last pathetic last gasp of pride from a really bad team. Shut up and play….. 65 games.
