Brandon Wood the Hero in His Pirates Debut
BWood doubled in his 2nd Pittsburgh AB, driving in the go-ahead and winning runs as the Pirates defeated the Washington Nationals 4-2 Monday evening. Now "2Wood", Brandon's face and video adorn the Pirates' website tonight. Clint Hurdle seems like the right guy. Go, Brandon!

What, if anything, did we get for Wood?
Angels baseball. We do what we must, because we can -- HaloDutch
The feel good story of the year red.
If he can turn his luck around.

I already feel good about him
Driven into right-center field, Erstad says he has it...the Angels, world champions!
We got one less running riff during game threads.
Don’t worry, we still have Mathis, The dung beetle, and Torii.
My response to your letter of February 19, 1976, is - kiss my ass.
Sincerely,

I love this team.

I never thought even the Prates would take him...
Wlell when he’s hitting 225 witha 339 slg%, well surely be sorry. . . .
What did they have to lose?
No draft picks lost, minimal salary paid out and no personnel given up. They win at all turns.

A roster spot
"That boy is our last hope" - Obi Wan Scioscia, as Francisco Rodriguez left for the Mets. "No, there is another" - Yoda Reagins.

Anybody else notice where his hands were before the pitch was thrown?
Looks like Hurdle wants him to swing it like he used to.
NOT MY QUINNY!!!!

i was gonna say the same thing
they’re not effing with his swing – just letting him swing.
Thank you, Nick Adenhart. You will always be remembered. #34

They have more sense than Hatchet did, apparently.

Well played, Mau....uh, Wood!
Maybe a change of scenery WILL do him some good. Best of luck, Brandon (2)Wood!!!

Amazing.
In his first one game with his new team he immediately decides to stop pulling every pitch and hit the ball where its pitched in the zone.
Yes, for his first two at bats he hit pitches that were low and away to right center
The last two he pulled pitches that were low and away to the shortstop.
I'd love to see Brandon Wood do well with the Pirates
He clearly has the talent, but the Angels really took a bad approach on him.

I like the Pirates, too
Franchise with a long and storied history, toppled the Yankees, and are now the ultimate underdogs. It’s a long climb from sixth place to first, but hopefully Wood can be part of that turnaround.
It’s obvious Brandon Wood could never succeed as an Angel. If he could hit .250 with 15-20 homers, that’s a big uptick at a position of need for Pittsburgh.
Go get ’em, Brandon.
R.I.P. Nick Adenhart - Always an Angel
As a STEELERS fan, I like them too...
I’m rooting for Wood. This could be the biggest referendum on Hatcher’s batting approach. If he’s above .260 we’ll know. A decade of groundballs can’t be a coincidence.

Big Dwight Stone fan? or Louis Lipps?
Great Steelers era right there.
I love this team.

LOL
Love Louis Lipps…even at 8-8 seasons. Bubby Brister, now that’s another story! We were mediocre for that era, but a fun team…imagine the steelers running back punts and kickoffs? Unreal. I’m definitely more into the 70s and post-Cowher eras :)

Any hit Wood gets...
Should be another nail in the coffin of Hatcher’s tenure as the Angels “hitting” coach. Now that he’s ruined another prospect, how much longer is going to be allowed to continue?
Never have i wished a former Angel good travels .. until now
I met Wood last season during his struggles when he was – rather inappropriately – speaking to elementary school kids about staying in school and getting a college education.
He was well-spoken and seemed like a good kid. I wish him nothing bust the best, as long as he never plays for the Red Sox, Yankees, Rangers, Mariners, Dodgers or A’s
"And the Anaheim Angels are the Champions of Baseball!"
"The story of Brandon Wood continues".....
This link’s first three videos tell the story.
A Pittsburgher was looking over my shoulder here at the office and asked me to correct you...
There should be an H in your title “Pittsburgh” It being the only Pittsburgh in the world with an H at the end. Otherwise, we might think that Brandon is in the Bay Area, neighboring Antioch.
I love this team.

Come to think of it, I thought something looked wrong when I wrote it, but an "h" never came to mind.
…and I know of CA’s Pittsburg.
Really?
The kid goes 1-4 with a double and everyone immediately assumes that his failures here were due to the organization and Hatcher rather than Wood. From reading the comments, I assumed he hit three home runs.
You are not giving him enough credit.
His career BA with the Pirates is 80 points higher than his career average with the Halos. His Slugging Percentage has nearly doubled. And he has yet to strike out in his new home over in the NL!
