Angels Win in 14 on Maicer Izturis Walkoff Single
Final Score in 14 innings in Anaheim: Angels 6, Blue Jays 5
Maicer Izturis hit a two out single that scored Peter Bourjos from 2B with a slide just ahead of the tag at home in the bottom of the 14th inning to record the first home win of 2011 for the Angels.
The Angels bullpen pitched 9 and one-third innings of scoreless baseball, bit at some point, a team has to score runs to finish the thing. With less than thirteen hours to go before their matinee game tomorrow, the Angels won Saturday night's game in the 14th inning.
Matt Palmer allowed 5 runs 4 and two-thirds IP in a spot start for "injured" Scott Kazmir. Rich Thompson took over in the fifth inning and the Blue Jays never scored again. Problem is, the Angels looked like they might not ever either. The Halos ran themselves out of the twelfth and thirteenth innings and blew a 2B/3B no out 11th inning as well.
Dan Haren got the win with an inning of relief, making his first appearance as a non-starter since October of 2004 when he was with the St. Louis Cardinals.

People seemed to hate the idea of putting Haren in
But really, a W tonight counts just as much as a W two days from now
Now don't be silly

If Callaspo getting picked off was a designed play
then apparently Soth thinks he’s playing Little League. Get players on your team that can hit and you don’t have to hope the other team can’t throw the baseball around the field faster than your guys can run…. i mean how stupid is that.
where did u hear that, or are you guessing?

the thing is
I help coach HS baseball and even HS teams practice rundowns enough where Bobby doesn’t score the vast majority of the time there.
Sosh has had success with that play before
I remember they executed it well before with Willits. besides you had Woodie at the plate. What did you have to lose?
by Bozo's1000son on Apr 9, 2011 11:29 PM PDT up reply actions
what do you have to lose???
Well if Wood is that bad of a hitter why is he on the team. And if it doesn’t work then he leads off the next inning which he did. At least if he makes an out then the worst hitter in the lineup doesn’t have to bad for awhile. And also Willits a bit faster than Bobby.
Willits is not faster than Bobby.
In fact I’ll bet you Premium could beat him in a foot race
by Bozo's1000son on Apr 9, 2011 11:35 PM PDT up reply actions
yea but if it doesn't work
which was unlikely then you have him leading off the next inning. If you follow NL ball at all you know you want to avoid your worst hitter (the pitcher) leading off an inning at all costs.
if sosh is sayin this then I suspect he is just shielding callaspo
Powered by Yankee lovers tears!!!!!
by semperfi1645 on Apr 9, 2011 11:32 PM PDT up reply actions
no it's Mota
but Clover is right in that him getting to 2nd serves only a marginal purpose of avoiding a force play at 2nd. I think it probably was a designed play.
2 outs also... so , no purpose really in getting that runner from 1st to 2nd.
1 outs— could be chalked up to avoiding the DP.
Play was drawn up — sosh REALLY wanted to get on espn.
