Maicer Izturis Clutch Delivers Angels Win Over Texas
Final Score in Arlington: Angels 3 Rangers 2
Alberto Callaspo drove in two runs but Fernando Rodney denied Dan Haren the Win with yet another gutless outing on the mound. Scott Downs picked up the pieces, though, and got his first W wearing a Halo when Maicer Izturis hit a clutch line drive with two outs in the 9th inning against former Teammate Darren Oliver to drive in Jeff Mathis - yes, Mathis had actually gotten on base in the game, twice in fact, once when it mattered most. Jordan Walden struck out two batters in a 1-2-3 9th inning for his 7th Save.
The Rangers offense was not as coked up inside the white lines as their reputation would imply. They are now one and a half games behind the Angels with the rubber game of the series played in the Arlington little league field tomorrow. They are not going to have a season of Fernando Rodneys getting their hopes up late in games like today, so when they cannot make their few clutch hits count in their homeriffic haven, imagine little men like Mighty Maicer destroying and burying Ron Washington's club before Josh Hamilton even has time to tweak another muscle.

Undecided
I was beginning to revise my conviction that Aybar’s a supreme choker when it matters. He was doing pretty good there for a while. Now again I’m not so sure. He seems to be in the center of too many of these close games, usually the ones we lose. Or is it just that shortstop fields more balls than most other positions? Statistics just catch up with him? I don’t know, but I wish he’d handle the pop ups, bunt attempts and grounders more often.
Shout-out to Mathis for a two hit day and getting the clutch leadoff single.
Do I still want Conger in, every time? Sure. But for today, Mathis did the job, so kudos.

Which isn't so terrible
You figure that’s about a 65 – 35 split, which is about how much you’d expect the starting catcher to play anyway, at least with Scioscia at the helm.
I’d rather see 75 – 25, but it could be worse, considering Conger is a rookie.

where did you get this? will you share it. I promise I won't post it in here.
Cautious yet very optimistic about the 2011 Season. Go Angels.
My 14-year old made it.
He just altered the halo colors and .giff’ed it.
Have at it.
I won’t be around to post it after most home wins. Somebody probably should do it – if Rev’s all good with it.

I know it was Aybar's fault...
But Rodney has to stop coming in the 8th. Bad shit always happens when he is around.
Thank you Jeff Mathis for being decent 2-4 today

Congratulations to Fernando Rodney
For his 2-0 win-loss record this week despite blowing saves in both of those games he won. Has there ever been a better debunking of old-timey pitching stats than this guy?
Downs actually got the win tonight
But your point still stands

kudos for Sciosc
he yanked him after the one batter, even though Aybar should have fielded it.

1 true earned run in eight innings in that LL park with that line up.
Dude owns the AL right now
Any time th SP gives up 1 run in 8 innings, its an almost automatic panther unless someone does historic on offense.

Izzy is in the top ten in batting why
Is Aybar not listed with him? He has more at bats than some other players in the batting avg. category.
He doesn't draw walks
He only has 111 PA, of which 105 are ABs, 3 are BBs, 2 are SHs, and 1 is an SF. The Halos have played 40 games, which means he would need 123 PAs to qualify for the batting title. I love Aybar, but it’s actually ridiculous that he’s only drawn 3 walks this season.
