A's over Angels 5 - 4 in Tale Of Two Committees
It was the best of times (Joel Pineiro and Scott Downs),
it was the worst of times (Jordan Walden and Fernando Rodney),
it was the age of wisdom (Maicer Izturis and Bobby Wilson),
it was the age of foolishness (Alberto Callaspo).
The worst possible team composition for any baseball fan must be one comprised of a strong rotation and defense that can hold down the opposition, just enough offense to overtake that opposition, and a horrendous bullpen to throw it all away at the end. Guess what? We got ourselves one of those tonight. Again.
RevHF reporting: Final Score in Oakland: the visiting Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim: 4, the hometown (by way of Kansas City and Philadelphia) Athletics 5 in 10 innings. The losing pitcher was Fernando Rodney. Angels closer Jordan Walden got a blown save for his 1 IP effort in the ninth inning. Unlike the extra-inning game in Boston that had a four-hour rain delay after four innings, this game started after a long rain delay and continued into extras. Oh and the Halos won in Fenway and lost on Monday night in Urloftheweek.com stadium.

this one is on Walden
it looks like he has been figured out. If Walden did his job then Rodney would not have come in, the reason he gets more blame is because you guys actually like Walden despite the fact he has been awful recently.
Only positive is it looks like Downs has taken the 8th inning role from Rodney and there’s probably a 50% chance he closes by the end of the year.

you forget Collapso's bonehead non-action that caused the first 2 runs
it went downhill from there

Callaspo really is the goat of the game.
He doesn’t blow that play, those runs don’t score.
Damn son, Greyson and Kaplan are going at it

Yeah

It's a funny old world; a man's lucky if he gets out of it alive.
Masterfully debating a 14 year old?

do your job and lets go home. Stop blowing saves. Get three outs without giving up a run. Thats it

so frustrating.
bright spots, HK, aybar, collapse-o and izzy are hitting out of their minds…middle of the lineup, vortex of suck.
Glue factory rodneys ass.
Give walden a couple more shots before a demotion— started off way to dominant to lose his “role.”
What do you need a fancy suit for, Charlie, you ain't got no job to wear it to.
rodney has appeared in 20 games
they’ve only lost 6 of those
he’s 2-2 with 3 blown saves (one courtesy of an aybar groundball flub)
walden
appeared in 20 games

face it, the bullpen is just as shitty as it was last year.

Does the fact that Scioscia keeps running out Rodeny in high leverage situations
mitigate the credit he gets for pulling him out of the closer role early?
the myth of the closer role.
rodney is going to give up runs in the 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th.

yes. Rodney is a bad pitcher wherever and whenever he pitches.
"It's our money," owner Arte Moreno said.
I loathe Mathis.
But the Soth obviously loves his boy, and always offers up some form of questionable defense for him. Walden didn’t do the job, but I can forgive that given his youth, it sucks, but it happens. But why does Soth continue to run Fraudney out there? It’s as inexcusable as Mathis’ continued PT. I can’t seem to think of one reason why Fraudney is given the ball, at the most critical of times during a game. Fraudney should only be given the ball if were up by 10, or down by 10. No other exceptions. DFA his ass, and Soth, you score no points for bringing in Rodney, and may god have mercy on your soul. Rodney sucks. I’m out.
YOU DON'T KNOW THE POWER OF THE DARKSIDE.....
Speaking of Mathis
I can’t wait to see him play tomorrow after Wilson’s blown save and loss tonight.
Worded that poorly.
Blown save and loss on Wilson in Scioscia’s mind.
And you just know,
That Wilson’s overall game, hitting the ball fairly well, doing a decent, if not great job behind the plate, will have no bearing on his PT. And you’re right, Mathis will be given the start, and go 0’fer. And Soth will claim that he did a “Premium” job. And with that i’m out, goodnight all.
YOU DON'T KNOW THE POWER OF THE DARKSIDE.....
But that mind's a former All-Star mind.
With outstanding defenses…against the MSM slingshots of reason.
He knows mediocrity when he sees it.

P.s. can I offer an assist for blame of the game to...
…Howie Kendrick, for an absolutely terrible throw to home
I see red people
Same old story, different villain
Walden is a one-trick pony right now; he can throw 100 mph bullets – but often does not have the fine control needed to keep major league hitters off balance. Just like Chapman (Reds), throwing the ball hard does not necessarily make a player a good pitcher.
As for Rodney – he is the same player he’s always been. Throws hard, has no idea where the ball is going. He’s never performed at an elite level; his career stats reflect more of a journeyman. Why TR thought this guy would make the bullpen better and sign him to an $11m contract defies logic.
As for Callaspo – he’s a reserve player thrust into a full-time role. If we get anything of value from him, it should be considered good news. The only constantly producing bats in the line-up are the middle infielders: HK, Aybar and Mighty Mouse. BTW – Sean O’Sullivan is looking pretty good with KC so far this season…
Wow. I crashed out when we were trailing by three
nice to see we got the lead back. But UGH that blowpen, especially two fellas who are supposed to be nails. I blame both, but Walden is becoming shaky/figured out.
I love this team.

Downs is definitely the leader here. Sosh has to give him a longer leash.
R.I.P. Nick Adenhart - Always an Angel
I woke up this morning and realized I had gone to bed before the game was over. I just now decided to check the score on HH. As the page was loading, I kept repeating to myself, “4-3, 4-3, 4-3 final.” When I saw the headline, I lunged forward to scream at the computer screen, but realized everyone else in the house was still asleep. So I just kind of grimaced with my mouth open at the screen in a silent scream for about 3 seconds.
This team needs to learn how to score more than four runs per game.
"It's our money," owner Arte Moreno said.
U sir, are mad! Everyone knows more than 4 runs a game is mathematically impossible!
At least that’s what I’m assuming these past few seasons.

Collapso....completely. He started the crap with giving them 2 runs on a silver platter
The rest of the crap was just the toppings on the shit sundae
I'm an Angels fan
I hate Aybar
And yet, if we would have won this thing, I would have given him POTG for that fake popup that slowed the runner. That being said, I didn’t know who to vote for here, with no all of the above option, I went with Walden cause if he did his job and closed it, Fraudney would never have got in that game. Not trying to bail out the eventual loser though.
On a positive note… Joel Piñeiro is still pitching pretty damn good, and Downs is still worth his money in the short sample size so far.
Time to stop marching Rodney and Walden out there.
I thought Walden was the answer, but he has been horrendous the last few weeks outside of Texas.
But, whatever, Soth will keep sending them out there because he has shown this season and last he is a one trick pony who can’t adjust his coaching style to fit the players he has been given.
what did Callaspo do? or not do? i fell asleep.

With a man on first, he fielded a slow bouncer at third. His only play was to first.
Yet, he paused, as if he thought about going to second, then hurried his throw and threw wildly to first. Instead of one out with a man at second, Texas eneded up with no outs and runners at second and third.
A wise man does not need advice and a fool won't take it.

Shake things up. These roles are not working, and we can’t afford to give up games we’re winning in the late innings.

I think that game really hurt the team's confidence
Walden looked like he was about to pull his hair out after blowing the save. Torii looked dazed in the dugout after the ninth and you could see his frustration after that ball dropped in the ninth. Fortunately, Callaspo’s head is somewhere else so his clueless play won’t affect his frame of mind too much.
I think Waldo was crying in the dugout. He took it hard.

100 mph in a straight line isn't too hard to hit for MLBers
Especially after you’ve got a few game films to look at. Methinks we’re in trouble. Btw, I’ve never dropped an F bomb here. Does that mean I have that many in my bank? Cuz if so, I’ve got plenty to deservedly spread around.

watched game at Throwbacks
and i had a bad feeling after Piniero hit DeJesus while having 2 strikes on him. then the Callaspo show ensued. i may need a new phone after slamming it on the table so many times.
That Bourjos strikeout when he was asked to bunt
was just a terrible at bat. Total fail
I love this team.

About the only thing he does extremely well with a bat is bunt.
