Colon Throws First Shutout Since He Was an Angel
Because he's a Yanker, I feel sick to my stomach for what I'm about to say:
I'm happy for the guy. He earned a CY as an Angel, and he's made a pretty incredible comeback. Good for you, Grimace! I hope everyone in the Yankee rotation gets shelled, except for you (unless the Halos are hitting, obviously).

No way...
Then labrum repairs and Tommy John surgeries need to be outlawed as well.
Medical advancement is part of the game. Right?

I see where MLB is investigating the procedure...
but can’t find where it says that it might be declared illegal. Now if Colon took HGH during or after surgery, I can see where MLB would have its undies in a bunch. His surgeon denies it though, FWIW. Evidently the surgeon used Colon’s own cells, just like in TJ surgery they use the players own ligaments. I think the fact that it was done in the DR where steroids and PED’s are legal and available is part of the issue some folks have with this.
After seeing how many HS seniors (pitchers) need TJ surgery (Nick Adenhart comes to mind) I think as fans we should be pleased to see new research and methods to treat player injuries.
Full disclosure-I have one baseball playing son, and another son who is a microbiology major in college with a goal of doing medical research as a career.
Grimace? You mean Jaba?
anyhow, good for him.
who knows? Maybe he’ll get rotated back to us.

Is Brian Cashman that lucky
or that good?

Colon's comeback has fascinated me
He took an entire year off, after a decent but injury plagued 2009 with the White Sox
Pitched for Tony Pena in winter ball – Pena recommended signing him as a minor league free agent non-roster invitee. His winter ball stats: 37 IP, 28 K’s, 6 BB’s, 1.93 ERA.
Cashman signed him, offering $900K if he makes the team.
Pitched lights out in spring training: 16 IP, 17K’s, 1 BB, 2.25 ERA. Made the team, pitching out of the bullpen.
Made 3 “OK” relief appearances, then Girardi gave him a shot against Toronto. So far, so good. 6 of his 8 starts he has allowed 3 runs or less. Better yet, he’s striking out almost a batter an inning, something he hasn’t done since he was 27 years old!
It’s still early, and he has to remain healthy, but this is, so far, an amazing comeback.

It Bothers Me
That he waited so long to get his shoulder fixed. Had he gotten it fixed in 2006, he might have been able to contribute something positive to the Angels in 2007. Then again, maybe this surgical procedure did not exist at the time.
