Vernon Wells Half as Good as Juan Rivera
Somebody please rub this in Tony Reagins' face. Sure, Tony is touring the minor leagues this week, hiding his fat face from the hometown crowd, but one of you minor league dwelling Angels fans can be sure to holler the numbers below at Queen Antonia Reginas as she sits her tooshy down with the radar gun scouts behind home plate and watches our minor leaguers with the hopes of decimating this organization even more.
You do not have to look too far to see how terrible the trade for Vernon Wells has become. Forget the salary differential of over $70 million and also trading away Mike Napoli. Yes, imagine a one year swap of Juan Rivera for Wells... the Angels still come out as losers.
As of games played Friday night, a straight up trade of Juan Rivera for Vernon Wells is still a bust for the Angels... While Johnny Rivers is not exactly lighting it up with his batsniffing ways in Toronto, he is heads and tails better than Vern King Lousy... Look:
| Stat | Vernon Wells | Juan Rivera |
| PA | 163 | 232 |
| AVG | .179 | .245 |
| OBP | .227 | .310 |
| Slug | .291 | .346 |
|
Total Bases |
44 | 72 |

I find it therapeutic and calming for some reason.
It’s important I go through life knowing others hate Tony Reagins and Vernon Wells as much as I do.
I've got nothing.
Good lookin' out Tony.
I’m still waiting for TR to orchestrate a Jered Weaver+Trout to the Giants for Barry Zito trade. What a clueless moron.
YOU DON'T KNOW THE POWER OF THE DARKSIDE.....
You may still get it!
Nothing surprises me anymore. The botched bidding war over Carl Crawford
and arriving late for the meeting speak volumes about being inept. Then, he
compounds the problem by trading for Vernon Wells when there are other good
hitters out there which we could have had far cheaper!
Only positive thing about this situation is if enough Angels fans stay away from
the games, Arte Moreno will see the huge fiasco he has created by continuing
to ignore the problem despite, his repeated promises to improve the Angel
line up! Just fire Tony Reagins and beg Bill Stoneman to come out of retirement!
Atleast, Bill Stoneman knows how to build a championship team like the one we
had in 2002. I will take my chances with Bill Stoneman over Tony Reagins any time!
He's only

This is probably the most one-sided trade in baseball history
correct?
What do you need a fancy suit for, Charlie, you ain't got no job to wear it to.
MLB Network is running a "ten most memorable trades"
Yanks got screwed on Willie McGee; others were Ozzie Smith as well as Christy Mathewson in 1900 or so. I doubt any of those were this bad at the time of the trade. I hope Wells plays out of his mind to make up for it.
I love this team.

"We've traded Vernon Wells."
“Great trade! Who’d we get?”
Mire el pollo grande! Mire el pollo grande!
Tony Reagins = FAIL... er EPIC FAIL!
Even more striking would be to show the disparity in Wells’ 2011 numbers versus Mike Napoli’s.
And Rivera's sorta meh numbers here don't even tell the whole story.
He had a horrific slow start in TOR (a’la Wells) but has been hitting .318 in his last 20 games (not a’la Wells)

really juan over wells?
are you kidding me it sounds like people want juan back, what a joke!
Yeah wells is struggling all give you that! But he’ll come around he’s to good of a hitter!
But Juan, Come on! He doesn’t even run after balls in the outfeild. LAZY! Don’t you guys remember us losing games because of that like against the RED SOX! COME ON!
Angels blew it on not getting a 3rd baseman, we need a power bat at that position, not some one who hits .267 9hr 60rbi. NOT GONNA CUT IT
Nobody wants Juan back you silly goose
It is a simple comparison of one micro-aspect of the trade showing how incredibly HAD our beloved team’s GM was. Just taking Wells off the Jay’s hands PLUS $20M from the Jays was a deal that could have been done. Then you trade Napoli and Rivera for even prospects to replenish our WEAK minors system, and you are WAY better off than we are now. This was a cluster-fuck by our team’s management no matter how you slice it.
I love this team.

Yeah, I'd rather have Rivera back
We’d only be paying him $5.25 million for this season instead of paying Wells $21+ million every season from now until the end of 2014. I try to take an optimistic stance when it comes to what the Angels will do this winter and beyond, but it’s hard not to think that Arte is gonna have some difficulty signing or retaining guys without a new TV deal or some other revenue boost. If Weaver or Morales walks at the end of their time here, expect Wells and our other bad contracts to be part of the reason why.

Nope not spc7
I agree GM is making some pretty dumb decisions!
I’m not saying, this was a good trade. I did not want to see napoli go or us pick up wells contract, what i am happy with is not seeing that slug out in left!
TR has gotta go, I really dont understand are draft either. Why did we pick up another 1st baseban? Is that really were are needs are? Realy?
The joke is on the Blue Jays.
Rivera doesn’t have 3 years left on his contract after this one. He’ll be gone next year, while we’ll be guaranteed have control of a former All-Star for 3 more years.
And then after next year Wells will only have a two-year contract. I remember being told after I complained about the Fernando Rodney signing that there’s no such thing as a bad two-year contract.
So, after next year, the VW contract officially becomes a good one while Juan Rivera will have been out of baseball for two-years. Expect Toronto’s GM to get fired at that point, while Arte gives Reagins part ownership of the team.
Pollyanna is dead. But don't get mad at me, I didn't kill her. Tony Reagins did.
