Could the Angels be sellers?
Ken Rosenthal considers the possibility of the Angels trading (gasp) Jered Weaver if the team doesn't come out of their current slump and show some life. The idea of a Halo selloff has been discussed before, and with the lack of ace starting pitching on the market and Weaver being under club control through the 2012 season he could net the team a good haul.
He is undoubtedly one of our most valuable (if not the most valuable) players, and he is relatively cheap, even after arbitration this coming offseason. Sadly, if the Angels do go this route, it's conceivable Weaver is a key piece in a trade, or at least any trade that is worthwhile. I would hate to see him go, but I'm beginning to feel that his departure is inevitable, and I wouldn't blame him for leaving in free agency. I'm not ready to deal Weaver yet, but that may be the smart thing for the club to do in a month's time. I'm at least going to brace myself for the possibility.

I haven't read the article yet, but what you wrote appears sound to me.
I’m just not yet convinced we’re dead.
I am not opposed to trading Weaver
but I am 100% opposed to Tony Reagins making the deal
This team needs to be blown up. Weaver won’t resign with this team as is anyway
RIP Nick Adenhart
I'm glad he won't resign.
But I hope the Halos can talk him to re-sign.

You want them to talk him to where?
I love this team.

Package him and Wells, then I would 100000% support that
Gotta spend money to make money
Been thinking the same thing
Cause frankly, I do not see this team signing him long term. They could have done that if they wanted to earlier but chose not to. I would hope they would look for a young pitcher and a young bat in the deal.
No
There is enough money coming off this winter to make some smart acquisitions. After 2012, we basically get a financial bailout just in time for Weaver to walk and a year before Morales is eligible to do the same. I would rather make the attempt to retain both of them, fail and get draft picks in compensation than trust the current regime to get proper value for them via trade.

Agreed about Weaver.
I’m a little confused.
I thought Morales was eligible for arbitration for 2012 but was a free agent after that.
Does that mean we can keep Morales on the cheap for 2012 and depending on his level of success in 2013 offer him arbitration again?

As far as I know, he isn't a free agent until after 2013.
So yeah, we could have him for relatively cheap in 2012.

Too early to move Weaver
His trade value is so high that it would be impossible to get fair value out of another team. We’re talking at least four prospects in return: one of them a can’t-miss guy, and the rest a B+ or better. There aren’t many teams out there with that much to offer, and those that can probably won’t part with it. Plus, I wouldn’t trust the Ninja Turtle to properly evaluate the exchange.
not this season
if next season is looking like this one, than do it then. but not now. he’s one of the best pitchers in baseball, you don’t just give that up when you’ve got him locked up for another season, an owner willing to spend, and a hall of fame manager. with Weaver and Haren all this team needs to do it get to October…and then score a few runs (I know, longshot)
"You realize that Ive been posting on AN since 07 on this name and I am one of the most rec'ed posters there right?" - Some douche named DFA from AN
TR would absolutely screw this up.
Wouldn’t get the right prospects, financial relief, or timing. Trading Weaver is not that unlikely, but that’s a blockbuster that has to be finessed and coaxed for maximum effect. Tony would jump at the first offer, however middling, and we’d have to watch Jered dominate for someone else with little in return. I’d have more faith if it was any other GM.
Besides all that, there is no urgent need. It’s not like Fielder for the Brewers or Sabbathia a few years back for the Indians. It would have to be a no-brainer trade — but the opposite kind than our GM currently executes.

On a side note,
I love Rev’s comment to the article.

Typical Rev comment ...
He talks about sniffing jocks quite frequently!

disagree with Rev on this one
Calling Robothal a “jock-sniffer” makes believe he is allowed that close to the clubhouse in the first place.
I prefer to think of him as a filthy click whore.

Yes, the only way I would ever be OK with this is if TR is fired and we have a real GM make the deal.
But he is way too valuable. Pay him the money and extend him please.

Just thinking about moving him makes me want to cry
but I wouldnt be opposed to it if a good deal came up

So, considering TR is GM, we'll count you as opposed.
Pollyanna is dead. But don't get mad at me, I didn't kill her. Tony Reagins did.
i'd do it for a nice haul.....i just don't want
Reagins bringing in that haul. of course i don’t want to see WTY go but at the rate this team is going, we’ll most likely lose him anyway come FA time.
fire reagins first.
