Nothing statistically outstanding, but as a Samoan kid with baseball aspirations my dad made Tony his idol. Tony was the first Samoan born player and my dad, a Samoan homer to this day, flocked to Angel stadium with his FOB parents every Tony Soloita day to watch the swinging Samoan ride the pine. On occasion, Tony would pinch hit during a late inning push, and my dad would hope for a successful at bat so he could boast of his favorite players value to the team. But this was the extent of Tony's value to the team and he never made himself known to baseball fans outside of the Samoan community. So my dad's favorite player is Tony Soloita because he's Samoan and he played for the Angels. That's it!
